Amazon takes a referral fee on nearly every sale, and the percentage depends entirely on which category your product falls into, anywhere from 8% for electronics to 45% for Amazon device accessories. This calculator applies the standard published rate for your category to your price.

How Amazon actually sets this fee

Each of Amazon's roughly 25 product categories has its own referral fee percentage, published in Seller Central's fee schedule. Most categories charge a flat rate regardless of price, but a handful, including grocery, jewelry over certain thresholds and a few others, use tiered rates that change at specific price points.

This calculator uses the standard published rate for each category to give you a fast estimate. If your product falls into one of the tiered categories and is priced near a threshold, check Seller Central's current fee schedule for the exact rate at your specific price.

Why there's a minimum fee

Amazon guarantees itself at least $0.30 per item sold, even on very cheap products where the percentage fee alone would come out lower. On a $1.50 item at an 8% rate, the straight percentage would be $0.12, so the $0.30 minimum kicks in instead. Leave the checkbox above checked to see that reflected in your estimate.

Referral fee is only one piece of the cost

This number is just what Amazon takes as its cut for the sale itself. It doesn't include FBA pick, pack and storage fees if you use Fulfilled by Amazon, or any advertising spend you put behind the listing. For the full picture of your per-unit profit including fulfillment costs, use the Amazon FBA Calculator on this site.

Sellers who only budget for the referral fee are often surprised by how much thinner their real margin is once fulfillment and ad spend are added back in.

FAQ

Amazon Referral Fee Calculator: questions, answered

Is the referral fee the same as the FBA fee?
No. The referral fee is what Amazon charges for the sale itself, based on category. FBA fees are separate charges for storage and order fulfillment that only apply if you use Fulfilled by Amazon.
Does the referral fee percentage change based on price?
For most categories it's a flat percentage regardless of price. A handful of categories, like grocery and some jewelry price bands, use different rates at different price tiers, so check Seller Central for your exact category if you're near a threshold.
What's the minimum referral fee?
Amazon applies a $0.30 minimum per item, so very low-priced items are charged at least that amount even if the percentage calculation comes out lower.
Where can I find the exact, current rate for my category?
Amazon Seller Central publishes the full, current referral fee schedule by category, and it's the authoritative source if your product is priced near a rate-tier threshold.
Does this include Amazon's fulfillment or advertising fees?
No, this is referral fee only. For a fuller profit picture including FBA fulfillment and storage costs, use the Amazon FBA Calculator on this site.
