How many hashtags should you use

TikTok, X, Facebook and LinkedIn do not publish a hard hashtag cap, but hashtags still share space with your caption's character budget and a wall of tags reads as spam on every one of those platforms.

Total count versus unique count

The total count includes every hashtag in your text, repeats and all. The unique count treats #SEO and #seo as the same tag and only counts it once. When the two numbers do not match, you have a duplicate sitting in your caption, using up one of your limited slots without adding any extra reach. Hashtag placement: caption versus first comment

On Instagram, hashtags work the same whether they sit in the caption or in the first comment posted right after.
