Sitelink extensions add extra clickable links beneath a Google Ads text ad, and each one is limited to a short headline plus two even shorter description lines. This tool lets you draft up to four at once and flags anything that runs over Google's character limits before you paste it into Google Ads.

Sitelinks take up more space on the results page, push competitors further down, and give a searcher a direct path to the specific page they actually want, whether that's pricing, a specific product category, or a contact form, instead of landing everyone on the same generic homepage.

Google generally requires at least two enabled sitelinks to show any, and performance tends to improve with three or four live at once, so it's worth filling in more than one or two if you can.

The character limits, and why they're tight

Link text is capped at 25 characters, description line 1 and line 2 are each capped at 35 characters. That's tight enough that most full sentences won't fit, so lead with the single most useful word or short phrase rather than trying to cram in a complete thought.

"Free SEO Audit" fits easily at 14 characters. "Get Your Completely Free SEO Website Audit Today" does not, and would be rejected or truncated. Ruthless brevity is the whole skill here.

Getting this into your account

The formatted output above lists each sitelink's text, URL and description lines in a clear block you can reference while manually adding sitelink extensions in Google Ads, or use as a checklist while setting them up in Google Ads Editor.

Once live, check back after they've gathered some data. Google Ads reports performance per sitelink, so you can pause the ones nobody clicks and lean into the ones that do.

FAQ

Google Ads Sitelink Extension Generator: questions, answered

How many sitelinks should I actually set up?
Google generally recommends at least four, though it will show fewer if that's all you have. Having more than four active gives Google's system room to rotate and test which ones perform best.
What happens if my text is over the character limit?
Google Ads will reject the sitelink or ask you to shorten it before it can go live. This tool flags any field over the limit in red so you catch it before you try to upload it.
Do I need to fill in both description lines?
No, description lines are optional, though including them gives your sitelink more visible space and more room to communicate value, so it's generally worth using both when you have something worth saying.
Can each sitelink point to a different landing page?
Yes, and it should. Each sitelink's Final URL should point to the specific page most relevant to that link's text, like a pricing page for a "Pricing" sitelink, rather than sending every sitelink to your homepage.
Are sitelinks free to set up, or do they cost extra?
There's no extra cost to add sitelink extensions. You're only charged your normal cost-per-click when someone clicks the ad or one of the sitelinks, the same as any other ad click.
