Service schema is Schema.org structured data that describes a specific service a business offers, separate from the business itself. It names the service, links it to the provider, states where it is offered and, optionally, what it costs. It is the right markup for agencies, consultants and service businesses that want to describe individual offerings rather than the company as a whole.

Service schema versus LocalBusiness schema

LocalBusiness schema (available in our LocalBusiness schema generator) describes the business entity itself: its address, hours and contact details. Service schema describes one thing that business does, such as "Local SEO Audit" or "Bookkeeping for Small Business," and links back to the provider through the provider property. A single business can publish several Service blocks, one per service page, all pointing to the same provider.

How to use the fields

Enter the service name exactly as it appears on the page, the legal or trading name of the business providing it, and the areas it is offered in, whether that is a list of countries, states or cities. Add a starting price only if you are comfortable publishing it, since Google expects the price shown in markup to match what a visitor sees on the page.

Where to add Service markup

Place the generated script tag in the <head> of the specific service page it describes, such as a services landing page or an individual offer page, not on the homepage unless the homepage is dedicated to that one service.

FAQ

Service Schema Generator: questions, answered

What is Service schema used for?
Service schema describes a specific service a business offers, such as SEO audits, plumbing repair or bookkeeping, and links it to the business that provides it. It helps search engines and AI systems understand exactly what you sell, separate from your general business listing.
How is Service schema different from LocalBusiness schema?
LocalBusiness schema describes the business itself, including its address and hours. Service schema describes one specific offering that business provides. Many sites use both together: one LocalBusiness block for the company, and a separate Service block on each service page.
Do I need to include a price?
No, price is optional. Only add a starting price if you are comfortable publishing it and it matches what visitors see on the page. Leaving it blank still produces valid Service markup without an Offer block.
What should I put in areaServed?
List the countries, states, regions or cities where the service is actually available, separated by commas. If you only serve one area, enter just that one; the markup adjusts automatically between a single value and a list.
Can I use this for a service page that also has FAQ content?
Yes. Service schema and FAQPage schema are separate blocks that can both live on the same page. Generate this Service markup here and add FAQ markup with our FAQ schema generator, then include both script tags in the page head.
Will this markup produce a special search result?
Not on its own. Service schema is primarily a machine-readable signal that helps search engines and AI answer tools understand your offerings correctly. Some Google surfaces use structured business and service data behind the scenes, but there is no guaranteed visual rich result tied to Service markup alone.
