Meta tags are the lines in the head of an HTML page that tell search engines and social networks what the page is about. Get them right and your result looks sharp in Google and unfurls cleanly when shared on social. This generator builds the whole set for you, the title, description, canonical, robots directive, plus Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, and hands you a clean, copy-ready block to paste straight into your page.

Which meta tags you actually need

A handful of tags carry almost all the weight. The title tag is the clickable headline in search results and the single most important on-page SEO element. The meta description is the summary underneath, your free ad copy. The canonical tag tells search engines which URL is the master version when similar pages exist, heading off duplicate content problems. The robots tag controls whether a page should be indexed and its links followed. Together these four cover the SEO essentials, and the generator always includes them.

Older tags like meta keywords no longer influence Google and are optional here, included only if you fill them in. They do no harm, but do not expect them to move rankings.

Open Graph and Twitter Card tags

When someone shares your link on social, the network does not read your page the way a browser does. It looks for Open Graph tags, the ones that start with og, to build the preview card: the title, the description and the image people see before they click. Twitter Card tags do the same job for posts on X. Without them, a shared link can appear as a bare URL with no image, which almost nobody clicks.

Add a share image and the generator switches the Twitter card type to a large image automatically, giving your link the prominent visual card that earns the most engagement. Leave the image out and it falls back to a clean summary card. Either way the tags are built correctly, so your links look intentional wherever they land.

How to use the generated tags

Copy the block and paste it inside the head section of your page, ideally near the top, before any content loads. If your title or description contains a quotation mark or an ampersand, the generator has already escaped it so the code will not break your markup. Preview the result in Google with a snippet preview tool and test the social card with the sharing debuggers that Facebook and X provide, then adjust the wording until it reads the way you want.

Clean meta tags are table stakes, not a growth strategy on their own. If you want the pages behind those tags to actually rank and get cited by AI answers, request a free SEO audit and we will show you what to prioritise first.

FAQ

Meta Tags Generator: questions, answered

What are meta tags?
Meta tags are snippets of HTML in the head of a page that describe it to search engines and social networks. The most important are the title tag and meta description, which shape your search result, plus Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, which control how the page looks when shared on social media.
Do meta keywords still matter for SEO?
No. Google confirmed years ago that it ignores the meta keywords tag, and stuffing it does nothing for rankings. The generator includes it only if you choose to fill it in. Spend your effort on the title tag, description and quality content, which are what actually influence how you rank.
What is the canonical tag for?
The canonical tag tells search engines which URL is the preferred, master version of a page when several similar or duplicate URLs exist. It consolidates ranking signals onto one address and prevents duplicate content issues, which is especially useful for pages reachable through multiple parameters or paths.
Why do I need Open Graph tags?
Open Graph tags control the preview card social networks build when your link is shared: the title, description and image. Without them a shared link can appear as a plain URL with no image, which gets far fewer clicks. The generator creates them alongside Twitter Card tags so your links look polished everywhere.
Where do I put the generated meta tags?
Paste the block inside the head section of your HTML, near the top and before the visible content. Each page should have its own unique title and description. After adding them, preview your search snippet and test the social card with the debuggers Facebook and X provide to confirm everything renders correctly.
