How the repurposing estimate works

The calculator divides your total word count by a typical length for each short-form format: about 50 words per X or Twitter post, 200 for a LinkedIn post, 150 for an Instagram caption, 120 for a Facebook post, 250 for an email newsletter blurb, and 100 for a short video script. Dividing your word count by each of these gives a rough ceiling on how many pieces that one article could reasonably feed, assuming you extract distinct ideas rather than just chopping the text into chunks.

Why repurposing is worth the extra effort

A well-researched blog post usually contains far more ideas, statistics, quotes and examples than most teams ever pull out of it. Repurposing that same research into native, platform-appropriate posts extends its reach to audiences who will never visit the blog directly, without requiring a fresh research or writing cycle for every channel.

Treat these numbers as a ceiling, not a target

The counts here describe how much raw material you have, not how many pieces you should actually publish. Quality drops fast when every sentence of a post gets forced into its own social post. Use the estimate to plan a realistic content calendar, then pick the strongest three or four ideas from each format rather than publishing every possible variation.

FAQ

Content Repurposing Calculator: questions, answered

Are these repurposing numbers exact?
No. They are estimates based on typical word counts for each format, used as a rule of thumb for planning, not a scientific measurement of how many good posts your specific article contains.
Why does LinkedIn get a higher word count than Instagram?
LinkedIn posts that perform well tend to run longer and more narrative than a typical Instagram caption, so the calculator uses a higher assumed length for LinkedIn to reflect that difference in format norms.
Should I actually publish every piece this calculator suggests?
No. Treat the totals as the maximum raw material available, then choose the strongest ideas for each channel instead of mechanically splitting the article into that many separate posts.
Does this work for videos, podcasts or other non-text content?
It is built around word count, so the most direct use is a written transcript or script. If you have a transcript of a video or podcast, entering its word count works the same way.
Does this tool save the text I'm repurposing?
No. Only the word count number you enter is used, nothing is saved, uploaded or sent anywhere, and the calculation happens entirely in your browser.
