A disavow file tells Google to ignore specific backlinks when it evaluates your site, and getting the formatting exactly right matters, because a malformed file can be rejected or partially ignored by Google Search Console. This generator takes a plain list of domains or URLs and turns it into a properly formatted disavow.txt file in the format Google's documentation requires.

The format Google expects

A disavow file has to be a plain text file, encoded in UTF-8 or 7-bit ASCII, with one entry per line. To disavow an entire domain, the line reads domain:example.com. To disavow a single page, the line is the full URL of that page, such as https://example.com/spammy-page. Lines that start with a hash symbol are treated as comments and ignored by Google, which is why this tool adds a short comment header automatically with the generation date and the mode you picked.

Choosing domain mode or URL mode

Disavowing an entire domain is the safer, broader option when a site looks spammy across the board, was clearly built to sell or exchange links, or you cannot tell which specific pages on it are linking to you. It also automatically covers any new spam pages that domain publishes later. Disavowing individual URLs is the more surgical option, useful when only a handful of pages on an otherwise normal site are the problem, so you do not throw away any legitimate links from that same domain by accident. This tool applies one mode to the whole list, so if you have a mix, run the domain-level entries and the URL-level entries through separately and combine the two text blocks before uploading.

Using the file correctly

Once you have the generated text, save it with a .txt extension and upload it through Google Search Console's disavow links tool, making sure the correct property is selected, since a disavow file only applies to the domain or subdomain it was submitted under. Google's own Search Central documentation is explicit that most site owners do not need this tool at all, since Google's algorithms are generally effective at discounting low-quality links without any action from you. It is meant for situations like a manual action tied to unnatural links, or a deliberate negative SEO or spam link campaign you cannot get removed by contacting the linking site directly, not as a routine part of backlink maintenance.

FAQ

Disavow File Generator: questions, answered

What is a Google disavow file?
A disavow file is a plain text list of domains or URLs you ask Google to ignore when it evaluates the links pointing to your site. It matters when you have spammy or manipulative backlinks you cannot get removed and want to make sure they do not count against you in Google's link evaluation.
How is a disavow file formatted?
Google requires a plain UTF-8 or 7-bit ASCII text file with one entry per line. A whole domain is written as domain:example.com, while a single page is written as its full URL, such as https://example.com/page. Lines starting with # are treated as comments and ignored, so this tool adds a short header comment automatically.
Should I disavow entire domains or individual URLs?
Disavow entire domains when the whole site looks spammy or was clearly built for link schemes, since that also blocks any new spam pages Google finds there later. Disavow individual URLs when only specific pages on an otherwise legitimate site are the problem, so you do not discard any genuinely good links from that domain.
Where do I submit the disavow file?
Upload the generated .txt file through Google Search Console's disavow links tool, making sure you have the correct property selected first, since disavow files are submitted per domain or subdomain rather than account-wide.
Does disavowing links guarantee a ranking improvement?
No. Google Search Central's own guidance says most sites do not need this tool at all, since Google is generally good at ignoring low-quality links on its own. Disavowing is meant for cases with a manual action, or a clear, deliberate spam link campaign you cannot remove any other way, not as a routine backlink cleanup step.
