Buy Me a Coffee charges a flat 5% platform fee on every payment, coffees and memberships alike, per its own Help Center.

Buy Me a Coffee keeps its pricing simple: a flat 5% platform fee applies to every payment a creator receives, whether it's a one-time coffee, a recurring monthly membership, or a shop sale, according to the platform's own Help Center article on calculating charges. There are no paid tiers that lower the rate and no volume discounts, so the 5% cut is the same whether a supporter sends $3 or $300.
Payments run through Stripe, which charges its standard 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction on top of Buy Me a Coffee's 5% fee. Buy Me a Coffee's own documentation notes that recurring membership charges carry an additional 0.5% Stripe fee beyond the one-time rate, since subscription billing costs the payment processor more to run. A creator can choose to absorb these processing costs or build them into the price a supporter sees.
Ko-fi, the closest comparable platform, charges 0% on tips and memberships and only applies a 5% fee to its Shop and Commission features, which can be dropped to 0% with the paid Ko-fi Gold plan. That makes Buy Me a Coffee's blanket 5% simple to reason about but slightly more expensive for creators whose income is mostly one-off tips rather than shop sales, where Ko-fi's free tier would cost nothing.
