TACoS, short for Total Advertising Cost of Sale, measures what share of your entire revenue, not just ad-driven sales, is being spent on advertising. Enter your total ad spend and total revenue and this calculator gives you TACoS instantly, and if you also enter your ad-attributed revenue, it adds ACoS and your organic revenue split for direct comparison.
TACoS is calculated as total ad spend divided by total revenue, multiplied by 100. ACoS, the more commonly known metric, is ad spend divided only by the sales that ad clicks directly generated. The difference matters: ACoS tells you whether a specific campaign is efficient, while TACoS tells you what portion of your whole business, organic and paid combined, advertising is currently funding. A campaign can have a perfectly healthy ACoS while TACoS keeps climbing, if ad spend is growing faster than total revenue.
There is no single correct TACoS, since it depends heavily on category, margins and how new the product is, but many Amazon seller tools and agencies use a rough 5 to 15 percent range as a healthy benchmark for an established product. A falling TACoS over time, at a stable or growing revenue level, usually means organic rankings and repeat customers are doing more of the work, which is the direction most sellers want to move in. A TACoS that keeps climbing without organic sales following isn't automatically bad, since new launches often run higher TACoS on purpose, but it's worth tracking against revenue growth rather than reading in isolation.
While TACoS is most associated with Amazon sellers balancing Sponsored Products spend against total sales, the same formula works for any business running paid ads alongside organic revenue, such as a Shopify or DTC brand running Google Shopping or Meta ads next to SEO and email-driven sales. The math does not change: divide total ad spend by total revenue from all channels combined to see what share of the business advertising is currently carrying.
