An Instagram reach rate calculator shows what share of your follower count actually saw a post, using unique accounts reached rather than likes, comments or saves.
Reach rate and engagement rate answer two different questions. Reach rate measures visibility, how many unique accounts a post appeared in front of, while engagement rate measures response, what those viewers actually did once they saw it. A post can post a high reach rate and a low engagement rate, meaning it circulated widely but did not resonate, or the opposite, where a smaller audience engaged heavily with content that never left your existing followers.
Divide unique accounts reached by your follower count, then multiply by 100. Because Instagram distributes posts through Explore, hashtag pages and non-follower feeds, reach can climb past your total follower count, pushing the rate above 100%, which signals the algorithm pushed the post to a meaningfully larger audience than your existing followers.
Reach is available in Instagram's built-in Insights for any post, reel or story published from a professional account, listed separately from impressions. Impressions count every view including repeats from the same account, while reach counts each account only once, which is why reach is the more accurate number to use for this calculation.
