A headline is the one line that decides whether the rest of your work gets read. In search results and social feeds, people skim dozens of titles in seconds and click the one that promises the clearest payoff. This analyzer scores your headline out of 100 across five things that reliably move clicks: length, word count, power words, numbers and the opening word. None of them rank a page on their own, but together they decide whether the searcher who sees your title chooses you over the result above and below you.

What a strong headline gets right

Keep the title near 55 characters so Google does not cut it off in search, and aim for six to twelve words so a reader can take it in at a glance. Lead with a concrete promise, then sharpen it with a power word, a number or a trigger word where it fits the topic. The table below shows the targets this tool checks against.

ElementTargetWhy it matters
Word count6 to 12 wordsShort enough to scan, long enough to set a clear promise.
Character lengthAround 55, under 60Stays inside the width Google shows before it truncates the title.
Power wordAt least oneWords like proven or essential add urgency and curiosity.
NumberWhere it fitsSets a clear expectation and stands out in a list.
Opening wordHow, why, best, topSignals the format and the benefit in the first beat.

Write for the searcher, not the score

Use the score as a checklist, not a target to game. A headline stuffed with power words and numbers that does not match the page will lose the click on the next visit, and Google rewrites titles it judges misleading. Write a promise the page keeps, then trim and sharpen it until the checks turn green. FAQ

Headline Analyzer: questions, answered

What makes a good headline score?
A score of 70 or higher means the headline is the right length and carries enough pull to earn clicks. Between 40 and 69 it is workable but has clear gaps, usually in length or power words. Below 40 the headline needs real work before it competes in search or a feed.
How long should a headline be?
Aim for about 55 characters and six to twelve words. Google displays roughly 60 characters of a title before it truncates with an ellipsis, so anything longer risks losing the end of your message, which is often where the keyword or the hook sits.
What are power words?
Power words are terms that trigger emotion or urgency, such as proven, instant, free, ultimate, secret and essential. One well placed power word can lift click through rates, but stacking several reads as hype. The tool flags the ones it finds so you can keep them deliberate.
Do numbers really help headlines?
Often, yes. A number sets a clear expectation, like seven steps or a specific year, and digits stand out against the words around them in a list of results. Use a number where it genuinely fits the topic rather than forcing one, since a mismatched count can feel gimmicky.
Does this tool guarantee higher rankings?
No. A strong headline improves click through rate, which can support rankings, but ranking also depends on content quality, search intent, links and site health. Treat the score as a way to write a sharper, more honest title, then back it with a page that delivers on the promise.
