Gumroad charges 10% of the sale plus a flat $0.50 on direct sales, before any card processing cost. Refunds do not return any of these fees.

Gumroad keeps its pricing simple compared with most ecommerce platforms: no monthly subscription, no tiered plans, just a transaction fee that depends on how the sale happened. Sell through your own link and Gumroad takes 10% plus a flat $0.50. Sell through Gumroad's own Discover marketplace, where Gumroad brings you the buyer, and the cut jumps to 30%. The calculator above applies whichever rate fits, plus an optional estimate for card processing on top.
On a sale made through your own storefront link, social post or embedded checkout, Gumroad takes 10% of the price plus a flat $0.50 transaction fee. That flat fee is the detail sellers most often miss: it applies regardless of price, so it takes a much bigger bite out of a $3 digital download than a $30 course. On the $3 item, $0.50 alone is over 16% of the price before the 10% is even added.
Card processing is charged separately on top of Gumroad's own cut, typically around 2.9% plus $0.30 for credit card transactions, with PayPal fees varying. Combined, sellers commonly see total fees land somewhere between 13% and 19% of the sale price once everything is added up, which is what the calculator's processing toggle estimates.
Discover is Gumroad's built-in marketplace, where Gumroad surfaces eligible products to its own visitors browsing by category. Sales that originate there carry a 30% fee instead of 10% plus $0.50, since Gumroad did the work of finding the buyer for you rather than you driving your own traffic. Whether that trade is worth it depends on whether Discover visibility brings you sales you would not otherwise get, since the extra 20 percentage points is a real cost against your margin on every sale it produces.
Because the $0.50 flat fee is fixed, raising your price or bundling smaller items into a higher-ticket package immediately lowers your effective rate, since that fixed cost becomes a smaller share of a bigger sale. Driving your own traffic through content, email and search instead of relying on Discover keeps you on the 10% rate instead of 30%. And since refunds return none of Gumroad's fees, a lower refund rate protects margin directly, the same way it does on any payment platform.
