How we make this list: we compare pricing pages, product documentation and public user reviews. Rankite is independent; if a vendor ever pays for a featured spot, that listing is clearly labeled Partner.
Key takeaways
- Fleet software pricing is the least transparent in any category we cover. Only Fleetio ($4 to $10 per vehicle per month) and Quartix ($14 to $15) publish real prices; everyone else quotes.
- GPS Trackit no longer exists as a standalone brand: it merged with Zonar Systems in December 2024 and now operates as Zonar. Old reviews and prices under the GPS Trackit name are out of date.
- Match the product to the job: Fleetio and Quartix cover tracking and maintenance for small fleets; Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect, Geotab and Lytx sell full telematics with AI dashcams for safety-driven operations.
- If your drivers need ELD compliance, shortlist Motive, Samsara, Verizon Connect, Teletrac Navman and Zonar first: their ELD workflows are the most proven.
- The quote always has two parts: the per-vehicle software license and the hardware (GPS units, dashcams, installation). Ask for both numbers in writing before comparing vendors.

Tracking vs. full telematics: what to buy
Not every fleet needs the same product, and the price gap between the two ends of this market is enormous. Start by deciding which of these you are actually buying.
Simple GPS tracking answers "where are my vehicles." Quartix and Fleetio live here. You get live maps, trip history, geofences, driver behavior scores and maintenance reminders for $4 to $15 per vehicle per month, with published prices and short sales cycles. For a plumbing company with eight vans or a landscaping crew with twelve trucks, this is usually enough.
Full telematics answers "where are my vehicles, how are my drivers behaving, what is wrong with each vehicle, and can I prove it." Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect, Geotab, Teletrac Navman, Azuga, Zonar and Lytx live here. You get AI dashcams, ELD compliance, engine diagnostics, coaching workflows and open APIs, at quoted prices that typically run several times the tracking-only tools. For trucking companies, delivery fleets and any operation where safety incidents cost real money, this is the right tier.
Three questions settle it. Do your drivers fall under ELD rules? If yes, you need the telematics tier. Do you want cameras for safety and claims defense? If yes, shortlist the vendors with AI dashcams. Is your fleet under 15 vehicles with no compliance burden? Then start with the published-price tools and upgrade only when you outgrow them.
The top 10 fleet management software
Fuel is the biggest fleet cost you can control. The second biggest is the fleet software itself, because almost nobody prices it the same way. Two vendors will quote you $25 and $60 per vehicle per month for products that look identical in a demo, and neither number appears on their websites.
These ten tools cover the real market, from $4-per-vehicle maintenance software to enterprise telematics platforms. Every price below comes from the vendor's own site. Where the vendor publishes nothing, we say "See website" instead of repeating forum rumors.
#1
Samsara
Best for: Mid-size and larger fleets wanting one platform for tracking, safety and equipment
Visit samsara.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Samsara is the reference point the rest of the market is measured against. One dashboard covers GPS tracking, AI dashcams, ELD compliance, equipment monitoring and fuel reporting, with integrations into the tools a fleet already runs. The safety program is the standout: in-cab alerts catch risky behavior as it happens, and automated coaching turns footage into driver improvement without a full-time safety manager reviewing video.
The price of admission is opacity. Samsara publishes no rates; third-party research puts software licenses around $27 to $33 per vehicle per month before hardware and cameras, but your quote will differ. Factor in hardware costs ($99 to $148 per unit by most reports) and a multi-year contract. For fleets of 20-plus vehicles where safety and uptime matter, the platform earns its premium. For five vans, it is overkill.
What we like- AI dashcams with real-time in-cab alerts and automated coaching
- True real-time GPS tracking across vehicles, trailers and equipment
- Open API with 350+ integrations
- Top-ranked by operators on G2 for seven straight quarters
Watch out for- No published pricing: every deal is a custom quote
- Minimum of three vehicles rules out very small operations
- Reviewers report a learning curve on the interface
- Dashcam configurations push the per-vehicle total higher
#2
Motive
Best for: Trucking and logistics fleets that need ELD compliance and driver coaching
Visit gomotive.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Motive (formerly KeepTruckin) grew up in trucking, and it still fits that world best. The ELD workflow is battle-tested for FMCSA rules, IFTA reporting automates fuel tax filings, and the AI dashcams feed a coaching module that turns risky driving into targeted feedback. Dispatch tools, geofencing and maintenance tracking round out a platform that handles the daily reality of running trucks.
Like Samsara, Motive keeps its pricing behind a sales conversation. Industry estimates cluster around $25 to $35 per vehicle per month, with the ELD device around $150, but treat those as rumors until quoted. Motive suits fleets operating under DOT rules that want strong compliance and coaching in one system. Pure local-service fleets can get tracking cheaper elsewhere.
What we like- AI dashcams with 360-degree visibility and real-time collision prevention
- Proven ELD compliance with IFTA reporting built in
- Motive Card for fuel spend management
- Reviewers praise the interface and responsive support
Watch out for- Custom-quote pricing with no public numbers
- No free trial offered
- Per-vehicle cost runs higher than budget tracking tools
- Setup tablets draw complaints about connectivity
#3
Verizon Connect
Best for: Enterprises and mixed fleets that want OEM integration and broad coverage
Visit verizonconnect.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Verizon Connect brings the weight of the Verizon network to fleet telematics. The headline feature is OEM integration: compatible Ford and GM vehicles connect over the air with no hardware install, streaming tire pressure, seat belt and oil-life data straight to the dashboard. Around that sit GPS tracking, AI video, ELD compliance, asset tracking and field-service dispatch.
The tradeoff is enterprise gravity. Pricing is quoted, the product family takes study to navigate, and the value proposition sharpens with fleet size. For a large mixed fleet (trucks, vans, equipment) that wants one vendor and factory-data integration, Verizon Connect is a serious contender. For a 12-vehicle local fleet, the sales process alone may be more than you need.
What we like- Reveal platform covers tracking, video, compliance and field service in one
- Built-in OEM hardware integration with Ford and GM (no installs on compatible vehicles)
- AI dashcams with near-360-degree evidence
- Strong asset and equipment tracking
Watch out for- Quote-only pricing
- The product lineup is broad enough to confuse buyers
- Geared toward larger fleets, with small-fleet pricing less competitive
- Implementation can be heavy
#4
Fleetio
Best for: Fleets that need maintenance management more than live GPS tracking
Visit fleetio.com
Starting price$4/vehicle/month (Essential, billed annually; $5 month-to-month)
Free planNo (14-day free trial, no credit card required)
Fleetio is the honest outlier. While rivals hide behind quotes, Fleetio publishes everything: Essential at $4 per vehicle per month (annual), Professional at $7, Premium at $10, with a 14-day trial that needs no card. The product is maintenance-first: inspections, work orders, fuel tracking, parts inventory and total cost of ownership, with unlimited users and a genuinely good mobile app.
Understand what it is not. Fleetio does not do live GPS tracking or ELD compliance; pair it with a telematics device if you need dots on a map. It fits fleets whose biggest pain is maintenance chaos and cost visibility: service companies, delivery operations, anyone whose spreadsheets are failing. If you need cameras and compliance, look at the telematics vendors above.
What we like- The only transparent pricing in fleet software: $4, $7 and $10 per vehicle per month
- Unlimited users on every plan
- Strong work orders, inspections and parts management
- Fleetio Go mobile app works offline in the field
Watch out for- Not a live GPS tracking platform: it manages vehicles, not dots on a map
- Five-vehicle minimum on paid plans
- Work orders and parts inventory need Professional ($7)
- No AI dashcams or ELD
#5
Geotab
Best for: Data-driven fleets that want an open platform with deep customization
Visit geotab.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Geotab is the engineer's telematics platform. The GO device plugs into the OBD-II port and streams rich vehicle data to MyGeotab, where fleets build custom dashboards, rules and reports. The Marketplace's 200-plus add-ons extend it into nearly any workflow, and the open platform has made Geotab the default choice for fleets that want their telematics data to flow into their own systems.
That openness has a cost in complexity. Geotab sells through partners, pricing varies, and getting full value takes someone technical on your side. Fleets that want a polished out-of-the-box safety program may prefer Samsara or Lytx. Fleets with data ambitions and the staff to pursue them will find Geotab unmatched.
What we like- GO device is an industry standard for vehicle telematics
- 200+ third-party add-ons in the Marketplace
- Ranked number one in commercial telematics by ABI Research
- Strong EV management and sustainability reporting
Watch out for- Pricing runs through partners and varies by configuration
- The platform's depth demands technical effort to fully use
- Quote-based with no public starting price
#6
Teletrac Navman
Best for: Fleets that want driver scorecards and compliance without platform sprawl
Visit teletracnavman.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Teletrac Navman is the steady veteran. Driver scorecards benchmark harsh braking, speeding and idling across the fleet, giving managers a simple coaching tool that drivers actually understand. ELD compliance, video telematics, routing and dispatch, and maintenance tracking cover the standard fleet checklist without fuss.
It does not try to be the flashiest platform, and the interface shows it. Pricing is quoted. Teletrac Navman fits construction, field service and regional trucking fleets that want proven compliance and coaching tools from a vendor that answers the phone. Buyers chasing the latest AI features should compare it directly against Samsara and Motive first.
What we like- Driver scorecards turn behavior data into coachable metrics
- Solid ELD, video telematics and routing in one platform
- Strong presence in construction and field services
- Responsive customer support by most accounts
Watch out for- Quote-only pricing
- The interface feels dated next to Samsara and Motive
- AI and analytics depth trails the newest platforms
#7
Azuga
Best for: Small and mid-size fleets that want safety-focused tracking
Visit azuga.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Azuga aims at the smaller end of the telematics market with a safety-first message. Driver scores, rewards programs and in-cab feedback push behavior change without a heavy coaching apparatus. Dual-facing dashcams, ELD logs, asset tracking and a field-service bundle cover the needs of service fleets, contractors and delivery operations.
The company is smaller than the enterprise vendors, which cuts both ways: more attention per customer, fewer third-party integrations. Pricing is quoted. Azuga makes sense for fleets of 10 to 100 vehicles that want cameras and coaching but find Samsara and Verizon Connect oversized. Get the per-vehicle number in writing early; it is the whole decision.
What we like- Driver scoring and gamified safety rewards drivers actually respond to
- Dual-facing dashcams and eLogs for ELD compliance
- Equipment beacons track tools and small assets
- Field service management bundles dispatch with tracking
Watch out for- Quote-based pricing with no public numbers
- The integration ecosystem is smaller than the big platforms
- Advanced analytics are lighter than Samsara or Geotab
#8
Zonar
Best for: Fleets that want video telematics plus deep fleet health diagnostics
Visit zonar.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Zonar is the new home of GPS Trackit. The December 2024 combination folded GPS Trackit's video telematics and tracking platform into Zonar's fleet health and compliance expertise, and the combined company now operates as Zonar. The current lineup centers on Zonar Ignition, a unified cloud platform with AI dashcams, ELD, diagnostics and coaching.
Evaluate it as Zonar, not as your memory of GPS Trackit. Pricing is quoted, and the platform's strength is the combination of video safety with genuine vehicle-health diagnostics. Fleets in pupil transportation, construction and government should pay particular attention: Zonar's history in demanding environments is real. Just confirm during the sales process exactly which platform and contract terms you are buying.
What we like- Zonar Coach dashcams with AI event detection and automated uploads
- Strong fleet health diagnostics and predictive maintenance
- FMCSA-certified ELD (Zonar Logs)
- Deep roots in pupil transportation and demanding fleets
Watch out for- Quote-only pricing
- The GPS Trackit merger means old reviews and contracts need careful reading
- Brand transition may confuse during evaluation
#9
Quartix
Best for: Small fleets that want simple, affordable GPS tracking with honest pricing
Visit quartix.com
Starting price$14/vehicle/month (Info Point; Info Plus $15)
Free planNo
Quartix is the anti-Samsara: no quotes, no cameras, no sprawl. Info Point at $14 per vehicle per month gives real-time tracking, trip history and mobile access; Info Plus at $15 adds geofencing, detailed trip reporting and driver behavior monitoring. The driver league tables are simple and effective: rank drivers, coach the bottom, watch fuel and wear costs fall.
The limits are clear. There are no dashcams, no ELD workflows and no AI features, so regulated trucking fleets should look elsewhere. But for service businesses, trades and delivery fleets that need to know where vehicles are and how they are driven, Quartix delivers 80 percent of the value at a fraction of the quoted-platform price, with the number on the website.
What we like- Published pricing, a rarity in this market: $14 and $15 per vehicle per month
- Driver behavior scores and league tables that actually change driving
- 35,000-plus customers and 25 years in business
- Straightforward reports with no training required
Watch out for- Tracking-focused: no dashcams, AI video or ELD compliance
- Limited third-party integrations
- Enterprise tier is price-on-application
#10
Lytx
Best for: Safety-obsessed fleets that want best-in-class video telematics
Visit lytx.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Lytx is the video specialist. Where others bolt cameras onto tracking platforms, Lytx built its reputation on video safety: AI that spots distraction and drowsiness, in-cab alerts that correct drivers in the moment, and coaching workflows that convert events into training. The company claims billions in customer claims savings, and ABI Research ranks it first in video telematics.
It is a premium, quote-based purchase aimed at fleets where safety incidents are the biggest cost line: transit, waste, trucking, field services. The Lytx-plus-Geotab integration pairs best-in-class video with best-in-class telematics data for fleets that want both. If your priority is maintenance or simple tracking, Lytx is the wrong tool at the wrong price.
What we like- Ranked number one in video telematics by ABI Research
- AI detects distracted, drowsy and risky driving before collisions
- Coaching workflows turn footage into lasting behavior change
- Integrates with Geotab for a combined video-plus-telematics stack
Watch out for- Quote-only pricing at the premium end of the market
- Video-first: maintenance and tracking depth trail full telematics suites
- The sales process is enterprise-grade
What a fleet quote actually includes
A fleet quote has up to five line items, and vendors emphasize different ones. The software license is the per-vehicle, per-month subscription: the number everyone quotes first. Hardware is the GPS unit or dashcam itself, sometimes bundled, sometimes billed separately at $99 to $150-plus per unit. Installation covers professional fitting for hardwired units; plug-and-play OBD devices skip this.
The contract term is the hidden price lever. Most telematics vendors want 36 months, and the per-vehicle rate drops with longer commitments. Ask what happens at renewal: the teaser rate often does not survive year four. Add-ons (extra cameras, driver ID fobs, fuel cards, advanced analytics) each carry their own fees.
Before signing, get four numbers in writing: the per-vehicle monthly license, the total hardware cost, the installation cost, and the contract term with renewal terms. Then ask about data ownership and export, early termination fees, and what happens to the hardware if you leave. A vendor that answers all of this cleanly is usually a vendor worth buying from.
How we chose
We started with the searches fleet buyers run: fleet management software, GPS fleet tracking, and fleet telematics pricing. For each candidate we opened the vendor's own site and confirmed the product is current and sold under its present name, which is how we caught the GPS Trackit to Zonar rebrand. We recorded published prices where they exist (Fleetio and Quartix) and wrote "See website" where vendors quote privately, rather than repeating forum estimates. We compared tracking depth, safety and camera features, ELD compliance, maintenance tooling and fleet-size fit against public reviews on G2, Capterra and TrustRadius and practitioner discussion on Reddit. We excluded resellers, white-label trackers and products folded into other brands.
Frequently asked questions
How much does fleet management software cost per vehicle?
It depends on the tier. Published prices: Fleetio runs $4 to $10 per vehicle per month and Quartix $14 to $15. Quoted telematics platforms (Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect, Geotab, Lytx) are typically reported in the $25 to $60 range per vehicle per month once hardware and cameras are included, but every fleet's quote differs by size, term and features.
Do I need ELD compliance?
If your drivers operate commercial vehicles covered by the FMCSA ELD mandate, yes: hours of service must be recorded on a registered electronic logging device. Motive, Samsara, Verizon Connect, Teletrac Navman and Zonar all sell FMCSA-registered ELD workflows. If your fleet is local service vans under the weight threshold, ELD does not apply.
What is the difference between GPS tracking and telematics?
GPS tracking shows vehicle locations, trip history and geofences. Telematics adds engine diagnostics, driver behavior data, dashcam video, ELD compliance and integrations, all analyzed together. Tracking answers "where." Telematics answers "where, how, and what is about to break." You pay two to four times more for the second answer.
Can I use fleet software with fewer than 10 vehicles?
Yes. Quartix and Fleetio both serve small fleets with published pricing and no enterprise sales process. Samsara requires a minimum of three vehicles. Most quoted telematics vendors will sell to small fleets but price less competitively there; always get the small-fleet quote rather than assuming the enterprise rate.
Do dashcams actually reduce accidents?
The vendors' case is strong: in-cab alerts correct risky behavior in the moment, and coaching programs built on footage reduce repeat events. Fleets report significant drops in incidents after deploying AI dashcams with coaching. The camera alone does little; the behavior program around it does the work.
How long are fleet software contracts?
Typically 12 to 36 months for quoted telematics platforms, with better per-vehicle rates on longer terms. Published-price tools like Fleetio and Quartix offer annual or monthly billing with less lock-in. Always confirm the renewal terms and early termination fees before signing: the introductory rate and the year-four rate are often different numbers.
