How we make this list: we compare pricing pages, product documentation and public user reviews. Rankite is independent; if a vendor ever pays for a featured spot, that listing is clearly labeled Partner.
Key takeaways
- Starting out or running lean? AscendTMS offers a free entry tier, and Truckstop's ITS Dispatch starts at $75/month with unlimited users, the cheapest published TMS price on this list.
- DAT Broker TMS starts at $100/month and makes sense if your freight already flows through the DAT load board; the native integration removes double entry between board and back office.
- Mid-size brokerages choosing between published prices: Descartes Aljex starts at $699/month for 5 users, while Rose Rocket's current platform starts at $2,080/month with unlimited users and built-in AI agents.
- Large or complex operations should shortlist McLeod PowerBroker, Revenova (Salesforce-native), and PCS Software, all quote-based, plus Tai Software for heavy FTL and LTL automation.
The best freight broker software
#1
AscendTMS
Best for: New brokers and small teams who want to start on a free tier and scale up
Visit ascendtms.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planSee website
AscendTMS built its name as the free TMS, and it remains the lowest-risk way for a new brokerage to get organized. The platform covers load building, dispatch, carrier management, shipment tracking, and billing and invoicing, with integrations to DAT and Truckstop load boards, QuickBooks Online, and visibility tools like MacroPoint and project44. Setup, support, and training carry no fees, which is rare in this category.
The trade-off is transparency: the pricing page is a JavaScript app that does not render for text readers, so plan tiers and per-user rates could not be verified on the vendor site for this article and are marked accordingly. Third-party directories consistently describe a free Basic tier for very small teams and a paid Premium tier, but confirm current terms directly with the vendor. If your priority is getting a real TMS running this week with minimal upfront cost, AscendTMS is still the first demo to book.
What we like- Free entry tier for small teams
- No setup, support, or training fees
- Load board and QuickBooks integrations
Watch out for- Per-user pricing adds up as the team grows
- Vendor pricing page is not readable without JavaScript
#2
Tailwind TMS by CargoWise
Best for: Small brokerages and carrier-brokers that want an all-in-one TMS with strong accounting
Visit cargowise.com
Starting priceSee website (subscription via quote)
Free planNo
Tailwind TMS is now part of WiseTech Global's CargoWise family, and its current home is the CargoWise site after the standalone tailwindtms.com domain went dark. The product itself is unchanged in positioning: a cloud TMS for motor carriers, freight brokers, and companies that do both, covering quotes, orders, dispatch, driver settlements, accounts payable and receivable, and invoicing in one workflow. Integrations include DAT and Truckstop load boards, MacroPoint, Samsara, QuickBooks, and EDI providers.
The back office depth stands out: customer and carrier portals, a driver mobile app for proof of delivery, fuel bill importing, mileage calculations, and commission tracking all ship in one system. Pricing runs through subscription links and demos rather than a public list, so budget planning needs a sales conversation.
What we like- Full dispatch, accounting, and driver settlement in one system
- QuickBooks Online sync
- Carrier and customer self-service portals
Watch out for- No public pricing
- Original tailwindtms.com domain is dead, which confuses some buyers
#3
Tai Software
Best for: Brokers running FTL and LTL who want deep automation without per-connection fees
Visit tai-software.com
Starting priceSee website (vendor site lists a $995-$7,925 pricing range)
Free planNo
Tai TMS is built specifically for freight brokers, handling full truckload, LTL, partials, and drayage in one connected workflow. Its strengths are quoting with live LTL carrier rates, one-screen booking from quote to covered load, automatic tracking with AI check calls, and a native audit engine that compares every LTL carrier invoice against the rate confirmation before it reaches accounts payable. The vendor states that direct carrier, load board, and accounting integrations carry no per-connection fees.
The vendor site lists a $995 to $7,925 range without tying figures to named plans, so treat it as quote-based. Note that Tai has joined the Descartes Systems Group, which also owns Aljex; both are still sold separately. Brokers drowning in LTL rating and billing disputes will find this automation the most useful here.
What we like- Strong FTL and LTL automation in one screen
- 500+ direct API and EDI integrations with no per-connection fees
- Built-in carrier bill audit
Watch out for- Exact plan pricing requires a quote
- Recently joined Descartes, so the roadmap now sits inside a larger portfolio
#4
DAT Broker TMS
Best for: Brokerages already running on DAT load boards that want the TMS in the same ecosystem
Visit dat.com
Starting priceFrom $100/month (Broker TMS: Ops)
Free planNo
DAT's Broker TMS, part of the DAT One platform, starts at $100 per month for the Ops tier according to the vendor's own site. Because it is built by the company behind the largest US load board, posting loads, searching capacity, and managing the brokerage back office happen without retyping anything between systems. A modular structure lets brokerages add a CRM sales module, an outside agent module, multi-modal and LTL consolidation tools, EDI, CarrierWatch, and document management as they grow.
This is the natural pick for brokers whose freight already flows through DAT: DAT iQ rate intelligence feeds quoting, and the accounting integration keeps billing in the same system. Brokers committed to a different load board get less of the network effect. For DAT shops, the $100 starting price makes it one of the cheapest routes to a real broker TMS.
What we like- Native DAT load board integration
- Modular add-ons (CRM, EDI, LTL consolidation)
- Published starting price
Watch out for- Full value depends on staying inside the DAT ecosystem
- Advanced modules raise the cost
#5
Truckstop ITS Dispatch
Best for: Small to mid-size brokerages that want the cheapest published TMS with unlimited users
Visit truckstop.com
Starting price$75/month (Broker/Shipper plan, unlimited users)
Free planNo
Truckstop's ITS Dispatch publishes its pricing openly: the Broker/Shipper plan runs $75 per month with unlimited users, covering one-click invoicing, carrier payables, load confirmations, BOLs, customer agreements, QuickBooks integration, and RMIS compliance. The Pro tier at $99 per month adds document storage, sales management tools, private labeling, and custom logos. A Dual Authority Pro plan at $129 per user per month serves businesses operating as both carrier and brokerage.
At $75 with unlimited users, this is the cheapest published TMS price here, and adding dispatchers costs nothing extra. The feature set is practical rather than flashy: invoicing, payables, confirmations, and reporting without AI agents or no-code builders. Brokers already on the Truckstop load board get a connected workflow. If budget is the binding constraint, start here.
What we like- Lowest published starting price on this list
- Unlimited users on every plan
- QuickBooks and RMIS integrations
Watch out for- Interface feels dated next to newer platforms
- Advanced features need the $99 Pro tier
#6
Descartes Aljex
Best for: Established brokerages that want deep automation and MacroPoint visibility at a published price
Visit aljex.com
Starting price$699/month (Essential, includes 5 users)
Free planNo
Descartes Aljex publishes three tiers on its own pricing page: Essential at $699 per month with 5 users and unlimited shipments, Professional from $999 per month with 15 users, and Enterprise from $2,375 per month. Every tier includes unlimited shipments, MacroPoint visibility integration, MyCarrierPortal, a choice of load board integration, and QuickBooks connectivity. Higher tiers add customer and carrier portals, a private load board, EDI connections, and Descartes analytics.
Aljex has automated broker order entry, dispatching, and invoicing for years, and its 40-plus integration ecosystem is a genuine strength. Reviewers praise the responsive support and straightforward interface, while noting it looks older than newer rivals. Unlimited shipments mean costs do not rise with volume, worth weighing against per-user competitors. One-time setup and implementation fees apply on top of the monthly rate.
What we like- Unlimited shipments on every plan
- MacroPoint visibility and load board integrations included
- 40+ integration partners
Watch out for- Interface looks dated compared with newer rivals
- One-time setup and implementation fees apply
#7
Rose Rocket
Best for: Brokerages and carriers that want a modern, configurable platform with built-in AI agents
Visit roserocket.com
Starting priceStarting at $2,080/month (Full Service Platform, unlimited users)
Free planNo
Rose Rocket repositioned itself as a configurable transportation platform, and its current pricing reflects that: the Full Service Platform starts at $2,080 per month with unlimited users, custom fields, automations, order and dispatch management, tracking, invoicing, and three AI agents included. An Enterprise tier with dedicated account management, custom SLAs, SSO, and unlimited API access is custom-priced. The vendor guarantees go-live in 90 days with white-glove implementation.
The pitch is anti-template: no-code Builders let operations teams configure fields, boards, and automations themselves, and AI agents handle email intake, data extraction, and compliance checks. That configurability costs far more than the sub-$300 tools here. Rose Rocket fits brokerages that have outgrown rigid systems and want the TMS to match their process.
What we like- Unlimited users with no per-seat fees
- No-code workflow builders
- AI agents for email processing, data entry, and compliance
Watch out for- New pricing is far above the old entry point
- 90-day implementation is heavier than plug-and-play tools
#8
McLeod Software PowerBroker
Best for: Mid-size to large brokerages and 3PLs that need a complete operations and accounting system
Visit mcleodsoftware.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote)
Free planNo
McLeod's PowerBroker is a fully integrated freight brokerage operations management system with complete accounting software built in, aimed at 3PLs and established brokers. The company has served the trucking industry since 1985 from Birmingham, Alabama, and its platform covers digital freight matching, carrier selection automation, customer portals, EDI via DataFusion, automated billing driven by customer rules, collections automation, and rate analytics for smarter pricing decisions. AI integrations for logistics workflows are now part of the package.
This is enterprise-grade software with an enterprise buying process: quote-based pricing and implementation measured in weeks and months, not days. The payoff is depth few competitors match, especially in accounting and financial control, plus 140-plus certified integrations. Brokerages running serious volume with dedicated staff should shortlist PowerBroker; smaller shops should start with the published-price tools above.
What we like- Fully integrated brokerage operations with complete accounting
- 40 years in the business
- Deep EDI and integration framework
Watch out for- Quote-only pricing
- Implementation is a serious project, not a signup flow
#9
Revenova TMS
Best for: Brokerages that run on Salesforce and want CRM and TMS in one system
Visit revenova.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote)
Free planNo
Revenova TMS is built natively on the Salesforce platform, which makes it the obvious choice for brokerages already invested in Salesforce. CRM, quoting, dispatch, tracking, and billing live in one system instead of being synced between a CRM and a separate TMS, and the AppExchange marketplace adds plug-and-play extensions. The company layers AI over the platform for automation and document handling, and its integration roster covers DAT, Truckstop, MacroPoint, FourKites, project44, and major ELD and accounting providers.
Pricing is quote-based, and the Salesforce dependency is the real cost consideration: you need Salesforce licenses and the appetite to run your business on it. For brokerages already there, Revenova removes an entire category of integration work and unites sales and operations on every customer and load. Without a Salesforce footprint, it is a non-starter.
What we like- Native Salesforce platform with AppExchange extensibility
- AI features for automation
- Strong integration marketplace
Watch out for- Requires Salesforce
- Quote-only pricing
- Overkill for brokers with no CRM footprint
#10
PCS Software
Best for: Asset-based brokers and carriers that want AI-driven dispatch and margin visibility
Visit pcssoft.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote)
Free planNo
PCS Software's TMS, now powered by its Cortex AI, is built for carriers, brokers, and shippers, with a stated sweet spot of asset-based fleets running 50 to 1,000 trucks. The AI layer scores every load opportunity by profitability, recommends the best driver and truck from dozens of data points, enables one-click dispatch, and hunts backhaul opportunities to cut deadhead. Dispatch and billing connect automatically through built-in trucking accounting, and 72-plus integration partners cover ELDs, ERPs, and visibility platforms.
Pricing is quote-based with demos run by transportation professionals. Pure non-asset brokerages should note the carrier-first design: much of the intelligence assumes trucks and drivers to optimize. Hybrid broker-carriers get one set of books and one dispatch board for both sides. If margin per load is the obsession, PCS built its AI around exactly that.
What we like- Cortex AI scores loads by profitability and recommends drivers
- Built-in trucking accounting
- 72+ integration partners
Watch out for- Quote-only pricing
- Built for 50 to 1,000 trucks, so pure non-asset brokers may find it carrier-heavy
How we chose
We started with the vendors' own websites, because the rule for this list is simple: no price appears here unless the vendor publishes it. DAT, Truckstop, Descartes Aljex, Rose Rocket, and Tai publish current pricing or pricing ranges, verified on their sites on 2026-10-14. AscendTMS, Tailwind, McLeod, Revenova, and PCS do not publish usable pricing, so they are marked accordingly rather than filled in with third-party estimates.
From there we compared feature lists and documentation for broker-specific workflows: load posting and board integrations, carrier onboarding and compliance, quoting and rating, dispatch and tracking, invoicing and carrier payables, and accounting depth. We read public reviews on G2, Capterra, and Software Advice plus broker community discussions to check how each platform holds up in daily dispatch work, especially around reliability, support quality, and ease of onboarding. We weighted company-size fit heavily: free and budget tools for new and small brokerages, published-price mid-market platforms for growing operations, and quote-based enterprise systems for large brokerages and 3PLs. Nothing here rests on hands-on testing or vendor claims we could not verify.

What to check before you buy
Start with the load boards your freight actually comes from. A TMS with native DAT integration saves real keystrokes for a DAT shop and means little to a broker living on Truckstop. Check which boards are included versus paid add-ons, and whether posting, searching, and rate data flow both ways or only out.
Next, map the pricing model to your team, not just your load count. Per-user pricing punishes headcount growth; flat plans like Aljex's $699 for 5 users or Rose Rocket's unlimited-user $2,080 reward it; unlimited-shipment models decouple cost from volume. Model your cost at today's team size and at double the headcount before you sign.
Then verify the money side. Brokerage accounting is where cheap tools get expensive: carrier payables, invoicing, commission splits, and factoring integrations all need to work without spreadsheets. Ask whether the accounting is native or a QuickBooks sync, whether invoicing is one-click from the load, and how carrier payments and collections are handled. Finally, confirm the onboarding reality: a 90-day white-glove implementation and a self-serve signup are different purchases, so match the buying process to the urgency of your need.
TMS pricing models explained
Broker software pricing falls into four patterns. Per-user pricing charges for every seat: friendly for tiny teams, painful at 30 dispatchers. Flat platform fees charge one monthly rate, which rewards growth but can overshoot a two-person shop. Volume models tie cost to loads moved, aligning spend with revenue but punishing busy months. Quote-based enterprise pricing bundles everything into a negotiated contract, which fits only once the operation justifies the sales process.
The tools on this list show all four. Truckstop's $75 flat plan with unlimited users is the purest flat-fee value here. Aljex mixes flat tiers with user bundles. AscendTMS leans per-user on paid tiers. McLeod, Revenova, and PCS negotiate. None of these models is inherently better; the right one is the one whose cost curve matches how your brokerage grows. Sketch your team and volume 18 months out, run each model against it, and the cheapest option usually becomes obvious.
