Best Route Optimization Software in 2026: 9 Tools Compared

Key takeaways

  • Small delivery teams get the best value from per-driver tools with published pricing: OptimoRoute ($39 per driver per month) and Upper ($40 per user per month billed annually).
  • Businesses with variable volume should price the per-order model: Routific is $150 per month flat for up to 1,000 orders, with a genuinely free tier under 100 orders.
  • Courier companies with many drivers win on flat pricing: Spoke Dispatch starts at $125 per month with unlimited drivers.
  • Solo drivers do not need a fleet platform: RoadWarrior's free tier and $14.99 per month Pro beat every team tool on price.

The best route optimization software

A dispatcher stares at 40 stops, three drivers and a whiteboard. One driver calls in sick. The software that re-optimizes in seconds instead of an hour is the difference between an on-time day and a refund day. These nine tools all promise shorter routes and happier customers, but they price it four different ways and hide the limits that actually matter.

#1

Route4Me

Best for: Mid-size to enterprise delivery and field-service fleets
Visit route4me.com
Starting priceSee website (no public pricing; custom quote)
Free planFree trial (details unverified)
Route4Me homepage

Route4Me is the feature-depth pick for fleets that need deep configuration. Route optimization, GPS tracking, territory management, customer notifications and proof of delivery sit in one platform, and it handles thousands of stops across multi-territory operations. Support runs 24/7, which matters for fleets that run nights and weekends.

The commercial model is the hard part. There is no public pricing; everything is a custom quote, with third-party trackers reporting figures around $199 to $299 per user per month that Route4Me itself does not confirm. Billing is per user per month, and every user counts (managers, dispatchers, drivers), which scales cost fast. GPS tracking, proof of delivery and notifications arrive as paid add-ons, so the quote you negotiate is a bundle, not a price.

What we like
  • Broadest feature set in the category, from optimization to GPS tracking and proof of delivery
  • Handles very large route volumes and multi-territory operations
  • 24/7 live support with extensive integrations and API
Watch out for
  • Core features are paid add-ons on top of base plans, so total cost is unpredictable
  • No public pricing means budgeting starts with a sales call
#2

OptimoRoute

Best for: Small-to-mid delivery and field-service teams
Visit optimoroute.com
Starting price$39/driver/month (Lite, billed monthly)
Free planFree trial (30 days, capped at 250 stops)
OptimoRoute homepage

OptimoRoute is the no-friction pick for teams that plan routes in advance. The optimization engine recalculates instantly when a dispatcher drags and drops changes, and multi-day recurring scheduling suits teams running regular rounds. Pricing is published and honest: Lite at $39 per driver per month ($35.10 billed annually), Pro at $49 ($44.10 annual), Custom quote-only, with no setup fees. Mobile driver apps are included and API access ships on all paid plans.

The caps are the boundary. Lite allows 700 concurrent orders and excludes proof of delivery, analytics, customer notifications and real-time order tracking, so most delivery teams start at Pro, which raises the cap to 1,000. Per-driver pricing scales linearly with headcount and there are no published volume discounts, so cost it per driver before growing. Annual billing saves only 10 percent.

What we like
  • Strong optimization engine with instant recalculation on drag-and-drop changes
  • Multi-day recurring route scheduling
  • Transparent public pricing with no setup fees and cancel-anytime terms
Watch out for
  • Hard order caps (700 on Lite, 1,000 on Pro) push bigger operations to quote-only Custom
  • Lite excludes proof of delivery, analytics and customer notifications
#3

Spoke Dispatch

Best for: Courier and parcel companies with shipper clients
Visit spoke.com
Starting price$125/month (Starter, unlimited drivers)
Free planFree trial (7 days, no credit card required)
Spoke Dispatch homepage

Spoke Dispatch is the former Circuit for Teams, rebranded in late 2025, and it is built for courier and parcel companies rather than generic fleets. The workflow shows it: shipper and client management, per-client proof rules, flexible proof of delivery (signature, photo, barcode, geotags, cash on delivery), and optimization around vehicle capacity and time windows. Flat-rate pricing with unlimited drivers, routes and dispatchers favors teams with many drivers and seasonal swings.

Note the product split: the solo-driver Circuit Route Planner mobile app is a separate product from the Spoke Dispatch team platform, so check which one fits before you sign up. Plans run Starter $125 per month, Premium $200, Expert $1,000. The flat model beats per-driver pricing once driver counts climb, but very high-volume operations should model the math against per-order tools like Routific.

What we like
  • Flat pricing with unlimited drivers, routes and dispatchers on every plan
  • Courier-specific workflow with per-client proof rules
  • Strong optimization around courier constraints like capacity and time windows
Watch out for
  • Stop-based plan sizing can raise costs as volume grows
  • Some users report a learning curve and occasional app glitches
#4

Upper Route Planner

Best for: Delivery teams of roughly 5 to 30 drivers
Visit upperinc.com
Starting price$40/user/month (Starter, billed annually)
Free planFree trial (7 days, no credit card required)
Upper Route Planner homepage

Upper is the bundled mid-market option: optimization, dispatch, tracking and proof of delivery in one tool without per-task math. Per-user pricing covers unlimited routes on every plan, and the Professional plan at $48 per user per month billed annually ($60 monthly) includes GPS tracking, proof of delivery, customer notifications and barcode scanning without add-ons. Starter runs $40 per user per month annual, Optimize $71, Enterprise custom. Annual billing saves 20 percent.

The per-user model is cheaper than per-driver models at small team sizes but flips at larger fleets, so model your headcount first. Starter is optimization-only; teams that need tracking and proof of delivery start at Professional. Recurring routes, avoidance zones and driver-hours tracking are included. API access sits on Enterprise only, which limits integrations on lower tiers.

What we like
  • Per-user pricing with unlimited routes on all plans and no per-driver fees
  • Professional includes GPS tracking, proof of delivery and customer notifications without add-ons
  • Generous stop caps per route
Watch out for
  • GPS tracking and full proof of delivery need the Professional plan ($48 per user per month)
  • API access is reserved for Enterprise
#5

Routific

Best for: Local delivery businesses with variable volume
Visit routific.com
Starting price$150/month flat (101-1,000 orders)
Free planYes (free for up to 100 orders per month)
Routific homepage

Routific's model is the simplest to understand: you pay for orders, not seats. One plan includes every feature with unlimited drivers and dispatchers, at $150 per month flat for 101 to 1,000 orders, with the first 100 orders per month free. Above 1,000 orders it is $150 base plus per-order surcharges that drop with volume. The route quality gets strong reviews, with ML-based ETAs trained on historical traffic data.

This is the cheapest entry of any team tool here, and the per-order model is kind to businesses with part-time drivers and variable volumes: food, farms, retail, couriers. The flip side is that very high volume punishes the model versus per-driver tools, so model the per-order math carefully past a few thousand monthly orders. SMS notifications are a quote-based add-on; email is included. Old per-vehicle pricing was retired in mid-2024, so ignore outdated per-vehicle figures still circulating on review sites.

What we like
  • One plan with every feature included and unlimited drivers and dispatchers
  • Genuine free tier plus a 7-day full-featured trial
  • Accurate ETAs with machine learning on historical traffic data
Watch out for
  • SMS customer notifications are a paid add-on
  • Cost is harder to predict above a few thousand monthly orders
#6

Zeo Route Planner

Best for: Budget-conscious small delivery teams
Visit zeorouteplanner.com
Starting price$25/seat/month (Route Optimization)
Free planYes (free Basic plan, up to 15 stops per route)
Zeo Route Planner homepage

Zeo is the budget entry for teams that mainly need fast optimization and driver tracking. Pricing runs $25 per seat per month for Route Optimization, $40 for Route Management, $49 for Fleet Management, with per-seat (not per-driver) billing that helps teams sharing dispatch seats. Premium routes handle up to 2,000 stops, and integrations cover Shopify and Zapier.

The free Basic plan works for solo drivers doing short routes, but the 15-stop limit makes it hard to evaluate at real volume. Dispatch features are thinner than the team platforms: no dispatcher reassignment or driver swapping mid-route. Fleet features like live tracking sit on higher tiers, so verify which tier includes the tracking and notifications you expect. For small teams on a budget, the price is hard to argue with.

What we like
  • Lowest entry price in the category with per-seat billing that helps teams sharing dispatch seats
  • Up to 2,000 stops per route on Premium
  • Real-time driver tracking and customer updates
Watch out for
  • Limited dispatch features compared to team platforms
  • Trial and free limits are tight, making real-volume evaluation hard
#7

RoadWarrior

Best for: Solo professional drivers and very small teams
Visit roadwarrior.app
Starting price$49/month base + $20/driver/month (Teams Flex)
Free planYes (free Basic plan, 8 stops per route, no optimization)
RoadWarrior homepage

RoadWarrior is built for individual professional drivers, not fleets. The app is mobile-first, with traffic-aware routing, time windows and ETA sharing. Solo Pro runs about $14.99 per month, and the Teams Flex plan adds a web dispatcher portal at $49 per month base plus $20 per driver per month. FedEx and OnTrac manifest import is a thoughtful touch for drivers on those networks.

The growth wall is the stop cap: 120 stops on solo Pro, 200 per route on Teams. Proof of delivery (photo and signature) is a $10 per month add-on, not included. If your drivers plan their own routes, much of the Teams feature set goes unused, so compare the math against solo Pro seats. Under about five drivers this is the cheapest honest option; above that, the team platforms take over.

What we like
  • Cheapest entry for solo drivers with FedEx and OnTrac manifest import
  • Dispatcher web app with driver assignment and live tracking on Teams
  • Traffic-aware routing with time windows
Watch out for
  • Stop caps (120 solo Pro, 200 per route on Teams) limit scalability
  • Proof of delivery is a paid add-on
#8

WorkWave RouteManager

Best for: Established delivery, field-service and logistics businesses
Visit workwave.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote only; no public pricing)
Free planNo (demo-based sales process)
WorkWave RouteManager homepage

WorkWave RouteManager is the enterprise end of this list. It plans thousands of routes for multi-driver, multi-depot operations, with full order management, GPS tracking and customer notifications in one platform. The field-service DNA shows in scheduling and performance analytics that go beyond last-mile delivery.

Everything about the commercial model says enterprise. Pricing is custom-quote only, reviewers describe long-term contracts with charges for reducing seats, and third-party estimates put implementation at $3,000 to $30,000-plus. Before signing, confirm fleet minimums, contract length and total cost of ownership including integrations and GPS hardware. Not a fit for solo drivers or small teams.

What we like
  • Enterprise-grade optimization for thousands of routes across multi-driver, multi-depot operations
  • Full order management, GPS tracking and customer notifications in one platform
  • Deep field-service DNA with scheduling and analytics
Watch out for
  • No published pricing and reviewers describe it as comparatively expensive
  • Implementation can carry heavy extra costs
#9

Onfleet

Best for: High-volume courier, grocery, pharmacy and retail delivery
Visit onfleet.com
Starting price$619/month (Launch, 2,500 tasks)
Free planFree trial (14 days; no free plan)
Onfleet homepage

Onfleet fits operations where regulatory-grade proof matters: courier, grocery, pharmacy and retail delivery with ID and age verification, barcode chain of custody and strong driver and customer apps. Pricing scales with delivery volume, not headcount: Launch $619 per month for 2,500 tasks, Scale $1,349 for 5,000, Enterprise $3,099-plus for 10,000-plus, all with unlimited users. API and webhooks ship on every plan.

The tier math needs care. Advanced routing and auto-dispatch are gated behind the $1,349 Scale tier, overage fees run about $0.26 per task beyond the plan cap, and SMS and telephony are billed separately. Sitting just above a threshold means paying for unused capacity, so confirm the tier jump math before committing. Below roughly 2,500 tasks per month, this is poor value; at high volume, the per-stop economics work.

What we like
  • Task-based pricing with unlimited users, so dispatchers and drivers cost nothing extra
  • Advanced optimization with auto-dispatch, barcode scanning and ID or age verification
  • API and webhooks on every plan
Watch out for
  • High minimum entry at $619 per month
  • Overage fees plus separately billed SMS can push the real bill well above list price

Per-driver, per-order or flat: pick your pricing model

This category prices four ways, and the right model depends on your operation, not on the feature list. Per-driver pricing (OptimoRoute, Upper) is predictable and cheap for stable small teams, but it punishes growth. Per-order pricing (Routific) is kind to variable volumes, but it punishes very high volume. Flat pricing (Spoke Dispatch, Onfleet's task tiers) favors many drivers or high volume with predictable bills.

Do the arithmetic with your real numbers before the demo. Count drivers, monthly stops and who actually logs in. A 10-driver team on OptimoRoute Pro annual pays about $441 per month; the same team on Spoke Starter pays $125 flat. A 500-order-per-month local business pays $150 on Routific and would need 2,500 tasks minimum on Onfleet at $619.

The limits that actually stop teams

Every platform on this list has a ceiling, and the demo rarely names it. OptimoRoute caps concurrent orders (700 on Lite, 1,000 on Pro). Upper reserves its API for Enterprise. RoadWarrior caps stops per route. Routific's SMS notifications are a paid add-on. Onfleet gates auto-dispatch behind Scale. Ask about each limit with your peak numbers, not your average numbers.

The second limit is the contract. OptimoRoute and Upper publish cancel-anytime terms; Route4Me, WorkWave and Onfleet run quote-based enterprise deals with minimums and annual terms. If your volume is seasonal, the ability to scale down matters as much as the ability to scale up. Get renewal terms, seat-reduction charges and overage rates in writing before the first invoice.

How we chose

We started with the categories buyers actually search: route optimization software, route planning software, delivery routing software and route management software. For each candidate we opened the vendor's own pricing page, checked plan names and prices against public reviews on G2 and Capterra and operator discussion on Reddit, and compared feature lists, pricing models and fleet-size fit. We wrote "See website" anywhere a price could not be verified rather than guessing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does route optimization software cost?

It depends on the pricing model. Per-driver tools run $35 to $49 per driver per month (OptimoRoute, Upper). Per-order tools start at $150 per month flat (Routific). Flat team plans start at $125 per month with unlimited drivers (Spoke Dispatch). Solo drivers pay $15 per month or nothing (RoadWarrior). Enterprise platforms are quote-based: Onfleet starts at $619 per month, while Route4Me and WorkWave publish no prices.

Per-driver or per-order pricing: which is cheaper?

It depends on your volume. Per-driver pricing wins for stable teams with high stops per driver. Per-order pricing wins for variable volumes and part-time drivers. As a rule of thumb, divide your monthly orders by your driver count: above roughly 300 to 400 orders per driver per month, per-driver tools usually win; below that, per-order tools are cheaper.

Can I use route optimization software for a single driver?

Yes, and you should not pay for a fleet platform to do it. RoadWarrior's free tier covers 8 stops per route and Pro is about $14.99 per month. Zeo's free Basic plan covers 15 stops. The team tools on this list only make sense from around five drivers upward.

What is the difference between Spoke Dispatch and the Circuit app?

They are separate products from the same company. Circuit for Teams was rebranded to Spoke Dispatch in late 2025: it is the team platform with dispatchers, shipper clients and per-client proof rules. The Circuit Route Planner mobile app is the solo-driver product. Check which one you are signing up for, because the pricing and features are completely different.

Do these tools handle proof of delivery?

Most do, but rarely on the entry tier. OptimoRoute, Upper and Spoke include proof of delivery on their mid tiers and above. RoadWarrior sells it as a $10 per month add-on. Onfleet's proof features are strongest on Scale and up. If proof of delivery is a requirement, confirm which tier includes it.

How long does it take to set up?

Solo and small-team tools (RoadWarrior, Zeo, Routific) go live in a day. Mid-market platforms (OptimoRoute, Upper, Spoke) take days to a couple of weeks including driver onboarding. Enterprise deals (Route4Me, WorkWave, Onfleet) involve implementation projects measured in weeks. The driver app rollout, not the software config, is usually the real timeline.
