Top Software to Block Online Fraud Attempts in 2026: 10 Tools Compared

Key takeaways

  • Stripe merchants should start with Radar. Radar Lite is included at no extra charge on standard payments pricing, and paid business plans start at $10 per month. Stripe has also announced pricing changes that take effect in January 2027.
  • Signifyd, NoFraud, ClearSale and Riskified all use a "pay for approved orders" model and cover fraud chargebacks on the orders they approve. That moves fraud risk off your books instead of just scoring it.
  • SEON is one of the few rules-and-data platforms with a public entry price ($699 per month for 2,500 checks). Forter, Sift and Riskified are quote-only.
  • If your budget is tight, you have real free options: FraudLabs Pro's Micro plan (500 queries a month), Fingerprint's free tier (1,000 web API calls a month) and NoFraud's free starter plan for smaller stores.
  • Device intelligence tools like Fingerprint only identify the visitor. You still need your own rules or another platform to decide what to block.

The best software to block online fraud attempts

#1

Stripe Radar

Best for: Businesses already processing payments on Stripe
Visit stripe.com
Starting price$10 per month (Radar Standard), or pay as you go
Free planYes (Radar Lite, included on standard payments pricing)
Stripe Radar homepage

If Stripe is your processor, Radar is the obvious first layer because it is already switched on. Radar Lite gives AI-based screening for card payments and card testing prevention at no extra charge on Stripe's standard payments pricing. Radar Standard starts at $10 per month for businesses, Radar Plus at $14 and Radar Pro at $20, with pay-as-you-go pricing as an alternative.

The tier that matters for most growing teams is Plus. That is where you get 0 to 99 risk scores, custom rules with backtesting, manual review queues, adaptive 3D Secure and risk preferences. Pro adds protection against free trial abuse, bot abuse and multi-account behavior, which subscription and SaaS businesses tend to need.

The catch is pricing churn. Stripe has announced that existing Radar users on standard pricing start paying the new per-transaction charges as their trials end, with the new pricing taking effect January 22, 2027. Subscription merchants should note that screening applies to every recurring charge, not just the first one. Radar also does not refund fraud chargebacks, so you are still the one carrying the loss when it misses.

What we like
  • Works with zero code if you already use Stripe
  • Free Radar Lite tier covers card testing and basic AI screening
  • Plus and Pro add custom rules, backtesting and abuse signals
Watch out for
  • Most useful only for payments processed on Stripe
  • No chargeback guarantee, so fraud losses stay with you
#2

Signifyd

Best for: Mid-size ecommerce stores that want a financial guarantee
4.6/5 on G2 (347 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit signifyd.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planNo
Signifyd homepage

Signifyd suits merchants who do not want to run a fraud team at all. It scores each order in real time and backs every approved order with a 100% guarantee against fraud chargebacks, so if it approves a bad order, Signifyd covers the cost.

The model lines up incentives well. You pay on approved orders, so Signifyd earns more by approving more good customers, not by declining borderline ones.

The weak spot is transparency. Signifyd does not publish prices, so you will need a sales call and your order history to get a quote. Teams that like to fine-tune their own rules may also find the guaranteed model restrictive, because the vendor makes the final call on each order.

What we like
  • 100% financial guarantee against fraud chargebacks on approved orders
  • Pay only on approved orders
  • BigCommerce integration with no installation required
Watch out for
  • Pricing is quote-based
  • You give up some control over individual decisions
#3

NoFraud

Best for: Small and mid-size ecommerce stores
4.7/5 on G2 (260 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit nofraud.com
Starting priceSee website (custom pricing above $50,000 in monthly revenue)
Free planYes (starter plan for smaller stores)
NoFraud homepage

NoFraud was started by ecommerce merchants, and it shows in how it packages the product. Stores processing under $50,000 a month can pick from starter plans, including a free one and plans that add chargeback protection. Above that line you get custom pricing, and the company says there are no setup fees and you pay only for orders it approves.

A useful recent addition is policy abuse coverage. NoFraud acquired Yofi in October 2025, so the platform now targets return abuse and promo abuse alongside payment fraud.

The honest limitation is fit. NoFraud is built around online checkout, so a SaaS company worried about fake signups or a lender screening applicants will be better served by SEON or Sift. You also will not see per-order rates until you talk to sales or use the pricing estimate form.

What we like
  • Free starter plan and chargeback-protected plans for stores under $50,000/month
  • No setup fees
  • Added policy abuse prevention after acquiring Yofi
Watch out for
  • Exact rates are not published
  • Best fit is ecommerce, not apps or fintech
#4

ClearSale

Best for: High-risk or international ecommerce sellers
4.7/5 on G2 (205 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit clear.sale
Starting price$250 per month (Growth plans with chargeback guarantee)
Free planNo
ClearSale homepage

ClearSale, now part of Experian, mixes machine scoring with a team of human fraud analysts. That hybrid approach is its main selling point for merchants in categories where automated tools decline too many good orders, such as electronics, luxury goods or cross-border shipping.

Growth plans with the chargeback guarantee start from $250 per month, and the price scales with order volume, average order value, industry risk and chargeback history. ClearSale says there are no setup fees and no long-term contracts, and you are charged only for orders it approves.

The downside of human review is speed. If you promise same-day shipping, ask how long manual reviews take in your category before you sign.

What we like
  • Human analysts review tricky orders alongside the AI
  • Chargeback guarantee on approved orders
  • No setup fees or long-term contracts
Watch out for
  • Human review can add delay on borderline orders
  • Custom quotes needed for exact per-order rates
#5

SEON

Best for: Fintech, iGaming and teams that want to own their fraud rules
4.6/5 on G2 (394 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit seon.io
Starting price$699 per month (Starter, 2,500 fraud checks)
Free planFree trial (on request)
SEON homepage

SEON takes a different approach from the guarantee vendors. Instead of making decisions for you, it enriches each user with digital footprint data (email, phone, IP, device) and lets your team write rules on top. That makes it popular with fintechs, betting operators and marketplaces where the fraud is at signup or withdrawal, not just checkout.

The Starter plan costs $699 per month and includes API access, 2,500 fraud checks, 10 users and 50 custom rules, with implementation help by ticket and email. Premium is custom-priced and removes the caps, adding case management, AML compliance, 24/7 support and a dedicated implementation team.

You will need someone to own it. SEON rewards teams that tune rules and review cases, and a two-person ecommerce shop may find that more work than a guaranteed service.

What we like
  • Public entry price
  • Email, phone, IP and device data enrichment on every check
  • AML compliance tools on the Premium plan
Watch out for
  • Starter caps you at 2,500 checks, 10 users and 50 custom rules
  • No chargeback guarantee
#6

Sift

Best for: Marketplaces, travel and digital platforms facing payment and account fraud
4.6/5 on G2 (614 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit sift.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planNo
Sift homepage

Sift is a platform for businesses where fraud happens across the whole user lifecycle. Payment Protection blocks stolen cards and card testing in real time, while Account Defense targets account takeover. Its customer list (Zipcar, Turo, Patreon, Remitly) shows the sweet spot: platforms with logins and repeat users.

What stands out for operations teams is the testing workflow. You can test policies and thresholds against historical traffic before changes go live, which cuts down on the "we changed a rule and blocked half our good customers" problem.

Pricing is not published and implementation usually takes developer time to send events. A single Shopify store probably does not need it, but a marketplace with payouts should shortlist it.

What we like
  • Risk scoring in under 150 milliseconds
  • Separate products for payment fraud and account takeover
  • Policy testing against historical traffic before going live
Watch out for
  • Quote-only pricing
  • More than most small stores need
#7

Forter

Best for: Large retailers with high order volume and account abuse problems
4.7/5 on Capterra (15 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit forter.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planNo
Forter homepage

Forter is aimed at retailers big enough to measure fraud in percentage points of revenue. It returns real-time approve or decline decisions and covers account takeover and policy abuse as well as payment fraud. It is frequently compared with Riskified in enterprise evaluations.

The value case is approval rate. Forter's pitch centers on approving more good customers that other tools would decline.

For a small or mid-size business, the issue is fit. Forter does not list prices, and the sales process assumes meaningful order volume. Most companies under a few million dollars in online sales will get better value from NoFraud, ClearSale or Radar.

What we like
  • Real-time decisions covering payments, account takeover and policy abuse
  • Focus on reducing false declines
  • Built for high-volume retail
Watch out for
  • No public pricing
  • Built and priced for enterprise volume
#8

Riskified

Best for: Enterprise merchants selling across many countries and payment methods
4.4/5 on G2 (240 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit riskified.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planNo
Riskified homepage

Riskified, a NYSE-listed company, built its business on the chargeback guarantee. You pay only for approved orders, and Riskified guarantees approval rates and covers chargebacks. Its Dispute Resolve service gathers evidence and fights chargebacks for you at no extra cost, and a verification flow called Recover handles borderline orders instead of declining them outright.

It is a strong fit for international sellers. The platform supports payment methods from ACH and open invoices to digital wallets, and customers like Air Europa point to its value for cross-border growth.

The trade-off mirrors Forter. Pricing is custom and the integration is more involved than installing an app. Mid-size merchants should still get a quote and compare it with Signifyd and ClearSale.

What we like
  • Chargeback guarantee with full protection on approved orders
  • Dispute handling included at no added cost
  • Explains the reason behind each decision
Watch out for
  • Custom pricing only
  • Onboarding is heavier than plug-in apps
#9

Fingerprint

Best for: Developers adding device identification to signup, login and checkout
4.7/5 on G2 (451 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit fingerprint.com
Starting price$99 per month for 20,000 API calls ($4 per 1,000 after that)
Free planYes (1,000 web and iOS API calls/month)
Fingerprint homepage

Fingerprint is a building block, not a full fraud suite. It gives each visitor a stable device ID and adds signals like VPN detection, bot detection, browser tampering, virtual machines, incognito mode and AI agent detection. It helps stop one person from opening dozens of trial accounts.

Pricing is unusually clear. The free plan covers 1,000 web and iOS API calls a month plus up to 500,000 Android calls. Pro Plus is $99 per month for 20,000 calls, then $4 per 1,000, and Enterprise adds a 99.9% SLA and a dedicated customer success manager.

The limitation is scope. Fingerprint tells you who the visitor probably is, but your code has to decide what to do about it.

What we like
  • Transparent usage pricing
  • Flags VPNs, bots, tampered browsers, emulators and incognito mode
  • SDKs for web, iOS and Android
Watch out for
  • Identifies devices but does not make block decisions for you
  • Needs developer work
#10

FraudLabs Pro

Best for: Micro and small online stores on a tight budget
Visit fraudlabspro.com
Starting price$29.95 per month (Mini, 1,500 queries)
Free planYes (Micro: 500 queries/month, sales under $25K/month)
FraudLabs Pro homepage

FraudLabs Pro is the budget pick. The free Micro plan covers 500 queries a month for stores with sales under $25,000 a month, and includes a fraud score, IP geolocation, proxy, email and velocity checks, and 50 custom blacklist entries. Mini costs $29.95 per month for 1,500 queries, and Small is $99.95 per month for 5,000.

It gives a small shop a real first layer without a sales call. Paid tiers add disposable email, email domain age and card attempt velocity checks.

Be realistic about the work. The tool scores orders, but you set the rules and decide what to hold or reject. Lower plans also limit validation rules (five on Micro and Mini), so stores with a growing fraud problem will hit the ceiling fast.

What we like
  • Real free plan with no commitment
  • Low-cost paid tiers
  • IP, email, proxy, blacklist and velocity checks
Watch out for
  • Rules-based screening needs your judgment
  • No chargeback guarantee
  • Lower tiers cap rules and blacklists

How we chose

We started with vendors that business buyers and fraud practitioners mention most often, then added smaller tools with published pricing. For each one we read the vendor's own pricing page and product documentation, checked recent public reviews on G2, Capterra and Reddit, and noted integrations, plan limits, contract terms and which company sizes each product is really built for. We did not run hands-on tests.

A tool made the list only if its main job is stopping fraudulent transactions, signups or logins. General security suites and payment processors without a dedicated fraud product were left out.

How to pick the right fraud tool for your business

Decide who carries the loss

This is the biggest fork in the road. Guarantee vendors (Signifyd, NoFraud, ClearSale, Riskified) approve or decline orders and pay you back for fraud chargebacks on approved orders. Scoring and rules tools (Radar, SEON, Sift, FraudLabs Pro) give you more control, but every miss comes out of your margin. Owners without a dedicated fraud person usually do better with a guarantee.

Match the tool to where fraud happens

Card fraud at checkout is a different problem from fake signups, bonus abuse or account takeover. Ecommerce stores should focus on order screening. SaaS, fintech and marketplace teams need signup and login protection, which points toward SEON, Sift or Fingerprint paired with your own rules.

Do the pricing math on your own volume

Per-check, per-approved-order and flat monthly pricing look very different at scale. Pull three months of orders and model each quote on that number. Watch for caps on checks, users and rules in lower tiers, and ask whether declined orders are billed.

Check integration and exit terms

Ask how long setup takes on your platform, whether there is a prebuilt app for Shopify, BigCommerce or Adobe Commerce, and what the minimum contract length is. Confirm you can export decision history and blocklists if you leave, because that data is what makes your next tool smarter on day one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free software to block online fraud attempts?

For Stripe merchants, Radar Lite is included on standard pricing and covers card testing and basic AI screening. Outside Stripe, FraudLabs Pro's Micro plan offers 500 free queries a month, and NoFraud has a free starter plan for smaller stores. Free tiers are a good start, but they rarely include chargeback protection.

How does a chargeback guarantee work?

The vendor screens each order and returns an approve or decline decision. If an order it approved later turns into a fraud chargeback, the vendor reimburses you. You usually pay a fee only on approved orders, so the vendor has a reason to approve good customers rather than decline anything risky.

Do I need fraud software if my payment processor already screens transactions?

Basic processor screening catches obvious fraud, but it rarely covers account takeover, promo abuse or fake signups, and it does not move liability off you. Growing stores and any business with high-value or digital goods usually benefit from a dedicated layer.

How long does it take to set up fraud prevention software?

App-based tools on Shopify or BigCommerce can be live in a day or two. API platforms like SEON, Sift or Fingerprint need developer time to send events and build rules, which often means a few weeks. Enterprise rollouts with Forter or Riskified usually include a formal onboarding project.

Can fraud prevention tools block good customers?

Yes. False declines are a real cost, and for many merchants they lose more revenue than fraud itself. Look for tools that let you test rules against past orders, review borderline cases and track approval rates over time.
