How we make this list: we compare pricing pages, product documentation and public user reviews. Rankite is independent; if a vendor ever pays for a featured spot, that listing is clearly labeled Partner.
Key takeaways
- Only two vendors publish real prices: SEON (Starter $299/month via its Shopify app) and Fingerprint (Pro Plus $99/month); everything else is quote-only.
- The market splits into guarantee models (Signifyd, Riskified, Forter, ClearSale, NoFraud take the fraud liability) and scoring models (Sift, Kount, SEON, Fingerprint give you the decision engine).
- Enterprise platforms like Sift and Forter are sales-led with no free plans or trials; SMBs should start with NoFraud, SEON or Fingerprint.
- Percentage-of-order-value pricing means costs scale with revenue, not users, so model it against your fraud rate before signing.

The best fraud detection software
There are two kinds of fraud software, and they answer different questions. Guarantee platforms answer "who pays when fraud gets through": the vendor approves the order and eats the chargeback. Scoring platforms answer "how likely is this fraud": they hand your team the signal and you make the call. Mixing them up is the most expensive mistake in this category, so every tool below is labeled by which kind it is. Prices and models were checked against vendor pages and current third-party reporting in October 2026.
#1
Sift
Best for: Mid-market to enterprise wanting full-lifecycle coverage
Visit sift.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Sift is the scoring-model leader: a machine learning platform that scores risk across the whole account lifecycle, from fake signups to payment fraud to content abuse. Its network processes an enormous volume of events, which feeds models that flag account takeover, promo abuse and payment fraud in real time. You keep the final decision, which appeals to companies with their own fraud teams and appetite for control.
The cost of that control is operational. Pricing is entirely quote-based, built on transaction volume, modules and service level, with no free tier or trial. Reviewers praise the engine and flag the tuning work: configuring rules, calibrating models and explaining scores to stakeholders takes dedicated staff. Sift fits mid-market and enterprise teams that want intelligence without outsourcing the risk decision. Small merchants will find simpler tools cheaper and easier.
What we like- Covers signup, login, payment and post-transaction in one platform
- Consistently top-rated in analyst and review rankings
- Modular so you can start with one use case
Watch out for- Custom-quote pricing only with no free plan or trial
- Reviewers note the configuration and tuning burden falls on your team
#2
Forter
Best for: Enterprises wanting approval-rate and chargeback guarantees
Visit forter.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Forter sells outcomes, not software. Its platform returns real-time approve/decline decisions backed by a chargeback guarantee, and its identity graph draws on billions of identities to recognize legitimate customers other systems would decline. The pitch is approval-rate economics: every false decline is lost revenue, and Forter's models are tuned to recover it.
Pricing is quote-only and scales with your GMV, which makes it an enterprise conversation from the start. Third-party estimates put mid-market annual costs in the tens to hundreds of thousands, but Forter publishes nothing. If your priority is transferring fraud liability while squeezing more approvals from the same traffic, Forter is the strongest guarantee play. If you want to keep decisions in-house, look at Sift or Kount instead.
What we like- Decision-as-a-service with bundled chargeback and approval guarantees
- Identity graph covering billions of identities
- Strong on maximizing approval rates, not just blocking fraud
Watch out for- Quote-only pricing, typically a percentage of GMV
- Enterprise-focused with no self-serve entry
#3
Riskified
Best for: Large merchants wanting a guaranteed approve/decline decision
Visit riskified.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Riskified is the public-company option in fraud guarantees: it approves or declines each order and covers fraud chargebacks on the ones it approves. Being NYSE-listed gives buyers financial transparency most competitors cannot match, and the platform has grown beyond checkout fraud into policy abuse, account takeover and chargeback representment.
The commercial model is a percentage of approved order value plus an annual minimum, quoted per merchant. That means your fraud-prevention bill grows with your revenue, which is fine when fraud losses fall faster, but you should model it against your actual fraud rate first. The guarantee also excludes friendly-fraud categories like item-not-received disputes. Riskified suits large merchants that want a financially solid partner to carry fraud risk.
What we like- Chargeback guarantee on approved orders
- Publicly traded with transparent financials
- Expanded platform covers policy abuse, account takeover and dispute recovery
Watch out for- Pricing is a percentage of approved GMV plus an annual minimum, so it scales with revenue
- Guarantee excludes "not received" and "not as described" disputes
#4
Signifyd
Best for: Mid-market merchants wanting 100% chargeback protection
Visit signifyd.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Signifyd pioneered the guaranteed fraud protection model for mid-market ecommerce: automated approve, decline or review decisions on every order, with the company reimbursing fraud chargebacks on orders it approved. Decision orchestration routes borderline orders to manual review queues, and the system learns from outcomes across its merchant network.
Pricing is a percentage of order value, quoted per merchant, with no published tiers. Reviewers consistently rate the fraud prevention highly and the value as strong against the cost of unmanaged chargebacks, while noting the fee structure gets expensive at scale. Signifyd fits mid-market retailers that want to outsource fraud decisions entirely with a financial backstop. Merchants that want to keep the decision in-house should compare Sift.
What we like- 100% financial guarantee against fraud chargebacks on approved orders
- Automated decisioning with review routing
- Long track record in mid-market ecommerce
Watch out for- Percentage-of-order-value pricing with no published rates
- Guarantee covers fraud, not service disputes
#5
Kount (Equifax)
Best for: Enterprises already on Equifax identity rails
Visit kount.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
Kount, an Equifax company since 2021, brings identity data most fraud vendors cannot match. The Identity Trust Global Network scores interactions using device intelligence combined with Equifax's identity and credit data, covering payments, new accounts and logins. For companies already using Equifax for identity or credit services, vendor consolidation is a genuine argument.
Pricing is quote-only and not published anywhere, which makes Kount the hardest vendor here to benchmark before a sales conversation. Third-party estimates consistently place it at the premium end. Kount fits enterprises with serious identity-fraud exposure and existing Equifax relationships. Everyone else should get at least one published-price quote, from SEON or Fingerprint, before engaging.
What we like- Identity Trust Global Network analyzing tens of billions of annual interactions
- Deep device ID plus Equifax credit and identity data
- Strong on account protection as well as payments
Watch out for- No published pricing anywhere
- Historically positioned at the expensive end of the market
#6
SEON
Best for: SMBs wanting published pricing and fast deployment
Visit seon.io
Starting price$299/month (Starter, 1,000 checks)
Free planNo
SEON is the transparency play in a quote-heavy market. Its published Shopify app tiers start at $299 a month for 1,000 order checks with self-serve onboarding, stepping to $599 for 3,000 checks, with custom enterprise plans above that. The platform combines digital footprinting, email and phone intelligence, device fingerprinting and machine learning rules in a single API that deploys in days rather than quarters.
A few caveats. The published tiers cover the Shopify app; high-volume API use is quoted. And one widely discussed 2026 review reported a steep renewal increase, so negotiate price protection into multi-year deals. SEON suits small and mid-size businesses, especially on Shopify, that want real fraud tooling with pricing they can read before talking to sales. It is the most accessible serious option on this list.
What we like- Real published pricing tiers
- Digital footprinting and device intelligence in one API
- Self-serve onboarding without a sales process
Watch out for- The published $299/$599 tiers are the Shopify app plans
- Core platform pricing for high volume is custom
- Price-increase complaints appear in recent reviews
#7
Fingerprint
Best for: Developers needing device intelligence to build their own rules
Visit fingerprint.com
Starting price$99/month (Pro Plus)
Free planYes
Fingerprint is the developer's fraud tool: a device intelligence API that returns a stable, accurate visitor identifier from 100-plus browser and device signals, plus smart signals for bot detection, VPN use, geolocation and tampering. The free plan covers testing, Pro Plus starts at $99 a month for 20,000 web and iOS API calls (plus 500,000 Android calls), all published on Fingerprint's own pricing page with a 14-day trial.
What it does not do is decide. There are no built-in approve/decline workflows or chargeback guarantees; you feed the identifier and signals into your own rules or fraud engine. That makes it the cheapest way to add serious device intelligence to a signup flow, login page or checkout, and reviewers consistently praise the accuracy and documentation. Fingerprint fits engineering-led teams fighting fake accounts, trial abuse and account takeover. If you want decisions made for you, buy a guarantee platform instead.
What we like- Fully published pricing with a free plan and 14-day trial
- Highly accurate stable visitor identification across sessions and devices
- Strong developer experience and documentation
Watch out for- Identification only, you build the decision logic and workflows on top
- Costs scale with API volume, and runaway usage needs monitoring
#8
ClearSale
Best for: International merchants wanting human review behind the guarantee
Visit clear.sale
Starting priceSee website (quote-based)
Free planNo
ClearSale is the managed-service option: automated screening backed by a large team of human fraud analysts who review suspicious orders before deciding. That human layer rescues high-value legitimate orders that pure automation would decline, which matters for international merchants where data is thin and false declines are expensive. Guarantee options reimburse qualifying fraud chargebacks on approved orders.
Pricing is custom, commonly structured as a percentage of approved orders on the performance model or a per-transaction fee with the guarantee. There are no long-term contracts on some plans, which lowers the commitment risk. ClearSale suits merchants selling internationally or in high-ticket categories where analyst judgment beats model confidence. If you want instant automated decisions, the guarantee platforms above move faster.
What we like- Large human analyst team reviewing flagged orders, not just algorithms
- Chargeback guarantee options with performance-based pricing
- Strong international coverage
Watch out for- Quote-only pricing
- Human review adds latency versus fully automated decisioning
#9
NoFraud
Best for: Small stores wanting free screening with an optional guarantee
Visit nofraud.com
Starting priceSee website (custom)
Free planYes
NoFraud is the SMB-friendly guarantee platform. The free-to-install screening tier runs every order through an AI decision engine with human analyst review on the small fraction held for verification, including cardholder verification calls modeled on bank protocols. Paid tiers add the chargeback guarantee: if an approved order results in a fraud chargeback, NoFraud covers it.
NoFraud's own site offers starter plans, including a free plan, for businesses processing under $50,000 a month, with custom pricing above that; its Shopify app lists guarantee tiers from $250 a month. Reviewers rate it highly on value, with several noting fraud savings far exceed the fee. NoFraud fits small and mid-size stores that want enterprise-style protection without an enterprise sales process or contract.
What we like- Free-to-install screening with AI plus human analyst review
- Optional chargeback guarantee transfers fraud liability
- Installs in minutes on major ecommerce platforms
Watch out for- Published pricing only on the Shopify app tiers
- Pricing above the starter level is custom
- Guarantee terms exclude non-fraud chargeback reasons
How we chose
We started from analyst coverage, FeaturedCustomers' Spring 2026 fraud prevention report, and buyer reviews on G2 and Capterra, then checked each vendor's own pricing page in October 2026. We favored platforms with real fraud decisioning, published or verifiable pricing, and credible customer bases, mixing guarantee platforms with scoring platforms and enterprise tools with SMB-accessible ones. We excluded pure chargeback representment tools and generic risk APIs without fraud decisioning. No vendor paid for placement, and we did not run hands-on trials; the write-ups reflect published facts and reviewer consensus.
Guarantee vs. scoring: which model fits you
Choose a guarantee platform (Signifyd, Riskified, Forter, ClearSale, NoFraud) when you want to outsource the fraud decision and its financial risk. You pay a percentage of order value or a monthly fee, and the vendor covers fraud chargebacks on approved orders. This works best when fraud operations are not your core competency and your margins can absorb the fee.
Choose a scoring platform (Sift, Kount, SEON, Fingerprint) when you want to keep the decision in-house. You get signals, scores and rules engines; your team approves, declines and reviews. The software cost is lower and more predictable, but you need fraud analysts to run it and you keep the chargeback liability. Mid-market companies often start with scoring and graduate to guarantees as volume grows.
Watch the percentage math either way. Guarantee fees scale with revenue, so a store doing $10 million a year at a 1% fee pays $100,000 regardless of its actual fraud rate. If your fraud rate is 0.2%, you are overpaying for insurance. Calculate your true fraud losses, including chargeback fees and lost merchandise, then compare the vendor's fee against that number. And confirm the guarantee exclusions in writing: friendly fraud, item-not-received and service disputes are routinely excluded.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best fraud detection company for a small ecommerce store?
NoFraud (free screening with optional guarantee) and SEON (published tiers from $299/month) are the most accessible serious options. Fingerprint ($99/month) fits stores with developers fighting fake accounts and trial abuse. The enterprise platforms on this list are overkill below roughly seven figures in annual revenue.
How much does fraud detection software cost?
Two vendors publish prices: SEON from $299/month and Fingerprint from $99/month. The rest are quote-only: guarantee platforms typically charge a percentage of order value or approved GMV, while scoring platforms price on transaction volume and modules. Third-party estimates put mid-market enterprise deals between $40,000 and $200,000 a year, but those are unverified.
What is the difference between fraud detection and a chargeback guarantee?
Fraud detection scores transactions and leaves the decision to you; you keep the chargeback risk. A chargeback guarantee means the vendor approves the order and reimburses you if it turns out to be fraud. Guarantee platforms cost more but transfer the financial risk; detection platforms cost less but need your team to operate them.
Do these tools work for marketplaces and SaaS, or just ecommerce?
Most cover more than checkout. Sift, Kount, SEON and Fingerprint explicitly cover signup fraud, fake accounts, account takeover and promo abuse, which suits marketplaces and SaaS. The guarantee platforms (Signifyd, Riskified, Forter, ClearSale, NoFraud) are primarily built around card-not-present payment fraud for ecommerce.
How long does implementation take?
API-based tools like SEON and Fingerprint can be live in days. NoFraud installs on Shopify in minutes. Enterprise platforms like Sift, Forter and Kount typically need weeks of integration plus ongoing rule tuning, which is a real staffing cost on top of the license.
Can free plans actually stop fraud?
Free tiers work for evaluation and low volume: Fingerprint's free plan and NoFraud's free screening tier both provide real protection. But free plans lack guarantees, advanced signals and volume headroom. Treat them as proof-of-concept tools and budget for a paid tier once fraud losses exceed a few hundred dollars a month.
