How we make this list: we compare pricing pages, product documentation and public user reviews. Ratings come from G2, Capterra or Trustpilot, with the date we checked them.

Best M&A Software in 2026: 9 Tools Compared

Key takeaways

  • Only one of these nine vendors publishes pricing: Affinity starts at $2,000 per user per year. Every other tool is quote-only, and data room quotes typically scale with data volume and deal size.
  • Three names on this list now sit inside one company. Datasite acquired Firmex in 2021 and SourceScrub in 2025, and Grata now operates as a Datasite unit, so consolidation is the defining story of this category.
  • Most buyers need just one of three product types: a lifecycle platform that runs the deal (Midaxo, Devensoft), deal and relationship software that manages the pipeline (DealCloud, Affinity), sourcing intelligence that finds targets (SourceScrub, Grata), or a virtual data room that closes the deal (Intralinks, Ansarada, Firmex).
  • In data rooms, security certifications separate the serious vendors from the pretenders. ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27701 matter more than feature checklists when auditors or regulators start asking questions.

The best M&A software

Search for the best M&A software and most roundups hand you one blended list, as if due diligence software, deal sourcing platforms and virtual data rooms were the same purchase. They are not. This market is really three products wearing one label: platforms that run the deal, intelligence tools that find the deal, and data rooms that close it. Buy the wrong type and you will pay enterprise prices for features your team never opens.

The nine tools below cover all three jobs, from sourcing intelligence to post-merger integration. One vendor publishes its prices outright. Most quote by deal size, data volume or seat count, so treat any number you find on a review site as a starting guess, not a promise.

#1

Midaxo

Best for: Corporate development teams that want one platform from strategy through post-close integration
Visit midaxo.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote)
Free planNo free plan
Midaxo homepage

Midaxo is the full-lifecycle pick. Its homepage states it is trusted by more than 500 M&A teams worldwide, and the pitch is replacing a patchwork of spreadsheets and point tools with a single connected system. Strategy planning, deal scoring, due diligence task management and post-close playbooks all live in the same place, and most teams are up and running within days to weeks, according to the vendor.

The trade-off is scope. A platform this broad asks for real implementation effort, and with no published pricing you cannot compare costs without a demo first. For serial acquirers and corporate development groups running repeatable playbooks, the breadth is the point. For a one-off transaction, it is more tool than the job needs.

What we like
  • True end-to-end coverage: M&A strategy, pipeline CRM, a built-in diligence VDR, integration playbooks and value tracking in one system
  • Integrations with Grata, PitchBook, SourceScrub, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and Power BI
  • Named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape for AI-enabled deal management 2025 assessment
Watch out for
  • Quote-only pricing with no public tiers, so budgeting starts with a sales call
  • Designed for mid-market and enterprise teams, which means more onboarding than a simple data room
#2

DealCloud

Best for: Private equity, investment banking, legal and accounting firms managing deals and relationships
Visit dealcloud.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote)
Free planNo free plan
DealCloud homepage

DealCloud, now branded as Intapp DealCloud, is a deal and relationship intelligence platform aimed squarely at professional firms. It maps relationships across partners, bankers, investors and clients, scores relationship strength, links revenue to the relationships that created it, and captures emails and meetings automatically so the shared record builds itself.

Its customer stories on the homepage feature firms like Taylor Wessing, Hamilton Lane and Raymond James, and the enrichment story is strong: Intapp Data covers more than 14 million companies and 200 million contacts. The honest fit check is firm size. This is enterprise software for firms whose edge is their network, not a general M&A tool for occasional acquirers.

What we like
  • Industry blueprints preconfigured for private capital, banking, legal and advisory work
  • Relationship intelligence, relationship scoring and zero-entry activity capture from Outlook
  • Data enrichment from Intapp Data plus PitchBook, Preqin and FactSet feeds
Watch out for
  • Quote-only pricing and enterprise-scale implementation
  • Far more platform than a buyer needs if the actual requirement is a data room
#3

Devensoft

Best for: Corporate development and integration teams that need pipeline-to-close execution
Visit devensoft.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote)
Free planNo free plan
Devensoft homepage

Devensoft positions itself as the anti-spreadsheet: one source of truth for every deal, every stakeholder and every workstream. The module structure covers the whole arc, from tracking acquisition targets through diligence checklists to integration task management, with automated RAG status keeping workstreams honest and audit trails that the vendor says satisfy regulators in minutes.

Practitioners who live in 10,000-line work plans will recognize the product immediately. The caution is vendor scale: Devensoft is a fraction of the size of Intapp or Datasite, so buyers should test support responsiveness and roadmap pace during the pilot. Security posture is solid, with ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II and CSA STAR certifications listed on the homepage.

What we like
  • Six integrated modules: pipeline management, due diligence, post-merger integration, plus the DevenConnect API
  • Prebuilt playbooks across finance, HR, legal, IT and other functions with RAID tracking and RAG status
  • ISO 27001 compliant and SOC 2 Type II audited annually
Watch out for
  • Quote-only pricing and a smaller vendor footprint than the category leaders
  • The EMA product lineage shows its age in places
#4

Affinity

Best for: PE and VC firms that want a relationship-intelligence CRM with honest pricing
Visit affinity.co
Starting price$2,000/user/year (Essential plan, billed annually)
Free planNo free plan
Affinity homepage

Affinity earns its place partly on transparency. While every other tool on this list hides pricing behind a sales call, Affinity's pricing page lists all four tiers and what each includes. The product itself is an AI-first CRM for private capital: every email, meeting and note captured automatically, records enriched from more than 40 sources, and relationship strength scored from a decade of interaction data across a claimed 3,300-plus private capital firms.

The pricing honesty makes it the easiest tool here to budget for, but do the math on headcount. A 20-person investment team on Scale is $46,000 a year before add-ons. For firms whose deal flow genuinely comes from relationships, reviewers say the automation pays for itself. For firms that just need a shared pipeline, it is premium money.

What we like
  • The only vendor here with fully published pricing: Essential $2,000, Scale $2,300, Advanced $2,700 per user per year
  • Automatic email and calendar capture with relationship scoring and warm-path identification
  • Ascend AI agents, AI chat and a hosted MCP server included from the Scale tier up
Watch out for
  • Per-user pricing compounds quickly for large investment teams
  • Built for private capital, so corporate development buyers get PE-shaped workflows
  • Advanced enrichment sits on the higher tiers
#5

SourceScrub

Best for: Deal teams that source proprietary targets from hard-to-find company data
Visit sourcescrub.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote)
Free planNo free plan
SourceScrub homepage

SourceScrub's pitch is that it crawls the digital universe to find private companies and connects them with the sources where they appear: conferences, market maps, award lists, filings. The homepage cites a UserEvidence survey of customers showing a 51.7 percent improvement in research turnaround time, and customer quotes from firms like AKKR and LFM Capital describe it as the backbone of proprietary sourcing.

The big 2026 context is ownership: Datasite announced the acquisition of SourceScrub in August 2025. That means deeper data assets and a bigger balance sheet, but also means SourceScrub's future is now Datasite's strategy. Evaluate the product as it stands today and ask about the integration roadmap in writing.

What we like
  • Sources-first data model: 17 million companies tied to 290,000-plus sources and lists
  • AI-driven discovery, tracking and engagement plus on-demand data operations for list building and enrichment
  • Now backed by Datasite's resources and deal network
Watch out for
  • Quote-only pricing with no public tiers
  • A sourcing tool, not deal management software, so buyers still need a CRM or platform for execution
  • Post-acquisition roadmap is Datasite's to decide
#6

Grata

Best for: Investors who need AI-powered visibility into lower-middle-market private companies
Visit grata.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote)
Free planNo free plan
Grata homepage

Grata is the AI-native challenger to the legacy data incumbents. Its argument, laid out in a detailed comparison on its homepage, is that PitchBook and CapIQ cover transacted companies while Grata covers the bootstrapped, founder-owned lower middle market: companies that never appear in the usual datasets. Seller intent signals flag companies likely to transact six to 12 months before a process begins, and the MergerLinks data shows which bankers have done which deals.

The 99 percent accuracy figure is the vendor's own claim, so verify against your coverage during a trial. And note the ownership: Grata describes itself as a unit of Datasite, which pairs naturally with SourceScrub under the same roof. Buyers choosing between Grata and SourceScrub should run both against the same target list before deciding.

What we like
  • 22 million-plus private companies with claimed 99 percent data accuracy
  • Exclusive data others cannot replicate: 100 million-plus global filings, seller intent signals and 250,000-plus verified dealmakers via MergerLinks
  • CRM sync with Salesforce, HubSpot and DealCloud plus MCP and API access
Watch out for
  • Quote-only pricing with no public tiers
  • Like SourceScrub, it now operates as a Datasite unit, so long-term independence is gone
  • Premium data comes at premium pricing
#8

Ansarada

Best for: Advisors and mid-market teams that want an AI-assisted data room without enterprise friction
Visit ansarada.com
Starting priceSee website (quote request on the vendor's pricing page)
Free planNo free plan
Ansarada homepage

Ansarada, the Australian data room specialist founded in 2005, competes on intelligence rather than scale. Its AI reads your document set, answers questions from across it, sorts uploads automatically and predicts the winning bidder with what the vendor calls near-perfect accuracy by day seven. Pathways checklists standardize diligence workflows, and unlimited data is offered on some plans.

The vendor's pricing page is a quote request form, not a price list, so "See website" is the honest entry. For advisors running repeated mid-market processes, the automation story is compelling. For buyers who need predictable line-item costs before committing, the quote model is the friction.

What we like
  • AI features that do real work: document self-sorting, smart redaction, in-room document translation and bidder prediction scoring
  • Setup in minutes with guided room creation and no IT project
  • The vendor claims more than 955,000 organisations have used the platform
Watch out for
  • Pricing is quote-based with no public tiers, so cost comparison takes a sales call
  • Plans scale on data volume, which can surprise buyers mid-deal
#9

Firmex

Best for: Smaller deal teams that want a straightforward data room at a predictable cost
Visit firmex.com
Starting priceSee website (custom quote)
Free planNo free plan
Firmex homepage

Firmex is the simple answer. The homepage leads with customer reviews, not feature grids, and the recurring theme is ease: easy setup, intuitive permissions, a Q&A module reviewers call out specifically, and a flat cost that does not punish you for inviting more users. For boutique advisors and smaller corporate teams, that is often the whole buying decision.

The honest context: Datasite acquired Firmex in 2021, so the Toronto-based VDR now runs with enterprise backing. It will not match Intralinks or Ansarada on AI features, but it does not try to. If your checklist is secure sharing, permissions, audit trails and a price you can predict, Firmex is the short list.

What we like
  • Flat-cost pricing model praised by reviewers on the homepage for predictability
  • Simple, intuitive room setup with strong customer support reviews
  • Per-project and unlimited-subscription options
  • Datasite ownership brings enterprise backing
Watch out for
  • Exact pricing still requires a quote
  • Fewer AI features than the premium data rooms
  • Positioned for the mid-market rather than mega-deals

How to choose the right M&A software for your deal flow

Start by naming the job, because the category name hides three different purchases. If your team sources and tracks targets before a process starts, you need sourcing intelligence (SourceScrub, Grata) or relationship management (Affinity, DealCloud). If you run the whole arc from strategy to integration, look at lifecycle platforms (Midaxo, Devensoft). If the deal is already signed and you need secure document sharing for diligence, buy a data room (Intralinks, Ansarada, Firmex) and nothing else.

For data rooms specifically, read the security page before the feature list. ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27701 certifications, granular permissions, dynamic watermarking, audit trails and remote file controls are the features that matter when a counterparty's counsel asks questions. Every vendor here claims bank-grade security; the certifications are the ones with receipts.

On pricing, assume quote-only unless the vendor proves otherwise. Affinity is the exception with published per-user pricing. Data room quotes usually scale on data volume, user count and deal duration, so ask three questions on every call: what counts as a billable user, what happens to the price when the data room grows mid-deal, and what the renewal looks like after the transaction closes. Get the answers in writing before you compare vendors.

Finally, check integrations against the tools your team already lives in. Outlook and calendar sync matters for relationship tools, CRM sync (Salesforce, HubSpot, DealCloud) matters for sourcing intelligence, and SharePoint, Teams and Power BI connectors matter for lifecycle platforms. A sourcing tool that cannot push targets into your CRM will rot as a second login nobody opens.

One company is buying up the category

The most important M&A software story of the last few years is not a feature launch. It is consolidation. Datasite acquired Firmex, the Toronto data room provider, in 2021. It announced the acquisition of SourceScrub in August 2025. It completed the acquisition of the MergerLinks dealmaker network. In 2026 it acquired Valu8, the European private company data platform, and Grata now describes itself as a unit of Datasite. Four of the names buyers compare against each other increasingly answer to the same owner.

There is a genuine upside for buyers: one login across sourcing data, intelligence and the data room, with deal execution data feeding back into sourcing signals. Datasite's MCP server work, which connects AI assistants directly to live deal content, shows where the combined platform is heading. A connected stack can be worth more than the sum of its parts.

The counterweight is bargaining power in negotiations. When your sourcing tool, your intelligence feed and your data room come from one vendor, switching costs rise and discount room falls. Smart buyers in 2026 do two things: ask Datasite for bundle terms that reflect the consolidation, and keep at least one independent vendor in the evaluation so the quote stays honest. Competition from Intralinks, Ansarada, Affinity, Midaxo and Devensoft is what keeps the market working.

How we chose

We started with the categories buyers actually search: M&A software, virtual data room, deal sourcing platform and private equity CRM. For each candidate we opened the vendor's homepage and pricing page, read product documentation and feature lists, checked published integrations and security certifications, and weighed public user reviews on G2 and Capterra plus practitioner discussion on Reddit against company-size fit. Prices and plan details came only from the vendor's own pricing pages; where a vendor does not publish them, we wrote "See website" instead of quoting a directory. No vendor paid for placement and no hands-on trials are claimed.

Frequently asked questions

What is M&A software?

M&A software is a family of tools covering the deal lifecycle: sourcing platforms that find acquisition targets (SourceScrub, Grata), relationship and deal management software for tracking pipelines (DealCloud, Affinity), lifecycle platforms that run diligence and integration (Midaxo, Devensoft), and virtual data rooms for secure document sharing during due diligence (Intralinks, Ansarada, Firmex). Most teams need one or two of these, not all four.

How much does M&A software cost?

Almost every vendor quotes custom pricing. The one published exception is Affinity at $2,000 to $2,700 per user per year. Data room pricing typically scales with data volume, user count and deal duration, while sourcing platforms price on seats and data access. Expect five-figure annual contracts for team-wide deployments and always get the quote in writing before comparing.

Do I need a virtual data room or a full M&A platform?

A virtual data room is enough when the deal is already in motion and you need secure, permissioned document sharing for due diligence. A full M&A platform (Midaxo, Devensoft) fits teams running repeated acquisitions that need pipeline tracking, diligence checklists and integration playbooks in one system. Buying the platform for a single transaction is usually overkill.

What is the difference between Grata, SourceScrub and legacy data providers?

Legacy providers built their coverage around transacted companies and public filings. Grata and SourceScrub focus on the lower middle market: bootstrapped and founder-owned companies with thin digital footprints, found through proprietary sourcing, filings extraction and intent signals. The best test is running all three against the same target list and comparing coverage in your sectors.

Is there a free trial or free plan for M&A software?

No. None of the nine tools on this list offers a free plan, and free trials are rare in this category because the products hold sensitive deal data and sell through demos. Expect a guided demo and a pilot or proof of concept instead. Ask for a time-boxed pilot against your real pipeline before signing an annual contract.

How long does implementation take?

It depends on the product type. Data rooms (Intralinks, Ansarada, Firmex) can be live in hours or days; Ansarada advertises guided setup in minutes. Sourcing platforms and CRMs (Grata, SourceScrub, Affinity) need data loading and user onboarding, typically weeks. Lifecycle platforms (Midaxo, Devensoft) need the most configuration, with full rollouts running several weeks to a couple of months.
