How we make this list: we compare pricing pages, product documentation and public user reviews. Rankite is independent; if a vendor ever pays for a featured spot, that listing is clearly labeled Partner.

The best keyword ranking software
I have paid for rank trackers for years, and here is what the pricing pages will not tell you: nobody buys rank tracking for the rankings. You buy it for the moment a client asks "why did we drop?" and you need an answer with a timestamp. Or the morning after a core update, when you need to know exactly which pages moved before the panic meeting. The eight tools below all track keywords. What you are really choosing is data speed, database depth and price per keyword, and those three things point at very different products.
#1
Ahrefs
Best for: SEO professionals and agencies that need the full toolkit
Visit ahrefs.com
Starting price$129/month (Lite; $108 billed annually); Starter $29
Free planNo free trial; Ahrefs Webmaster Tools free for verified sites
Ahrefs is the industry standard for a reason: the data. The backlink index is the largest and freshest available, and rank tracking sits inside a suite where every keyword connects to backlinks, content gaps and competitor pages. When a ranking drops, you can usually see why without leaving the platform. The Starter plan at $29 exists, but serious rank tracking starts at Lite's $129.
The price is the whole conversation. There is no trial, the old $99 tier is gone, and credit-based limits can bite heavy users unexpectedly. If you only need rank tracking, you are overpaying for a suite. But if SEO is your job, the database depth pays for itself the first time it answers a question no cheaper tool could. Setup is instant with self-serve signup.
What we like- Largest backlink index with fresh crawl data
- Rank Tracker plus Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer and Content Explorer in one suite
- Reliable historical ranking data
Watch out for- No free trial and the cheapest useful tier is $129/month
- Credit-based usage limits can surprise heavy users
#2
Semrush
Best for: Agencies and in-house teams wanting SEO plus competitive intelligence
Visit semrush.com
Starting price$139/month (SEO plan); 7-day trial
Free planFree trial (7 days); limited free account
Semrush is the breadth alternative to Ahrefs: rank tracking plus PPC data, competitive research, content tools and social in one login. Position Tracking runs daily updates with cannibalization reports that flag when your own pages compete, a genuinely useful agency feature. For teams that touch paid search alongside organic, the combined data is hard to replicate.
Verify the current pricing before you buy. The May 2026 restructuring changed tier names and raised prices, so older guides show a ladder that no longer exists. Costs also scale steeply: projects, users and keyword limits each push the bill up. Setup is self-serve and a project goes live in under an hour. If your work spans organic and paid, Semrush fits. If it is pure SEO, compare the databases head to head.
What we like- Huge keyword database with strong PPC and competitive research
- Position Tracking with daily updates and cannibalization reports
- All-in-one suite covering SEO, content, social and ads
Watch out for- 2026 plan restructuring raised prices and changed tier names
- Costs scale steeply with projects, users and tracked keywords
#3
AccuRanker
Best for: Agencies and enterprises where rank data speed and accuracy are the priority
Visit accuranker.com
Starting price$249/month (Professional, 2,000 keywords); 10% annual discount
Free planFree trial (14 days)
AccuRanker does one thing and does it faster than anyone: rank tracking. On-demand updates beat daily crawls when rankings are volatile, which is exactly when agencies need answers. The interface is focused because there is nothing else in it, and white-label reporting plus generous user seats suit agency workflows. The 14-day trial is enough to test it against your current tool.
You pay for the specialization. At $249 for 2,000 keywords, the per-keyword cost exceeds the suites, and you will still need another tool for backlinks and site audits. This is a second tool for teams that already own Ahrefs or Semrush, or the primary tool for rank-obsessed agencies. If speed of rank data is your bottleneck, nothing else matches it.
What we like- Extremely fast on-demand rank updates
- Built purely for rank tracking, so the UX stays focused
- Strong agency features with white-label reports
Watch out for- Expensive per keyword compared with all-in-one suites
- No broader SEO toolkit for backlinks or audits
#4
SE Ranking
Best for: Freelancers, small agencies and SMBs wanting an all-in-one suite without enterprise pricing
Visit seranking.com
Starting price$65/month (Essential; $52 billed annually)
Free planFree trial (14 days, no card); no free plan
SE Ranking is the value suite: rank tracking, site audits, backlink checking and competitor research starting at $65 a month, roughly half the entry price of the two leaders. The keyword-based pricing scales with actual usage rather than punishing you for seats, and white-label reports cover the agency basics. For a freelancer or small agency, it does 80% of what the big suites do at 50% of the price.
The missing 20% is database depth. Backlink and keyword indexes are smaller, which matters for competitive niches and link prospecting. Plan names may also have changed in early 2026, so verify tiers on the vendor page. Setup is self-serve and fast. If your budget says no to $129-plus and you need more than pure rank tracking, this is the rational pick.
What we like- Strong value with rank tracking plus audits and backlink tools at mid-tier prices
- Flexible keyword-based pricing that scales with usage
- White-label reporting for agencies
Watch out for- Data depth trails Ahrefs and Semrush for backlinks
- Plan names may have changed in 2026, so confirm on the vendor page
#5
Mangools
Best for: Beginners, bloggers and small sites that want usable SEO tools
Visit mangools.com
Starting price$29.90/month (Basic, billed annually; $49 monthly)
Free planFree trial (10 days); limited free plan
Mangools wins on approachability. Every tool in the suite, from KWFinder to SERPWatcher, is designed so a beginner gets value in the first session, and the $29.90 annual price is the cheapest credible entry on this list. For a blogger tracking a few hundred keywords or a freelancer learning SEO, the low friction matters more than index size.
Scale is the ceiling. Keyword caps top out at levels agencies blow past, and the smaller index shows in competitive research. This is a learning and small-site tool, not an agency platform. Setup is instant, and annual billing cuts roughly 40% off monthly. If you are starting out or running a handful of sites, start here and upgrade when the limits bite.
What we like- Friendliest UI in the category for beginners
- Suite includes KWFinder, SERPChecker and LinkMiner alongside rank tracking
- Affordable annual pricing for freelancers
Watch out for- Keyword limits are low for agency-scale tracking
- Data freshness and index size trail the leaders
#6
Nightwatch
Best for: Small teams and agencies needing straightforward rank tracking with unlimited seats
Visit nightwatch.io
Starting priceFrom $32/month (250 keywords, per vendor site)
Free planFree trial (14 days, no card); no free plan
Nightwatch's killer feature is not tracking; it is seats. Unlimited users on every plan means a ten-person agency pays the same as a freelancer, which no per-seat competitor matches. The tracking itself is clean, with Search Console and Analytics integrations that enrich the data, and the $32 entry point covers 250 keywords.
Pricing clarity is the problem. Third-party sources quote different ladders in different currencies, so confirm the actual plan and price at checkout before budgeting. The feature set is also narrower than the suites: this is rank tracking, not an SEO platform. For a team that needs everyone in the tool without per-seat math, the value is real. Just verify the numbers first.
What we like- Unlimited user seats on all plans, good for teams
- Clean rank tracking with Search Console and Analytics integrations
- Affordable entry point for small keyword sets
Watch out for- Public pricing is inconsistent across sources
- Verify on the vendor page
- Narrower feature set than all-in-one platforms
#7
Wincher
Best for: Site owners and small agencies tracking rankings across many websites
Visit wincher.com
Starting price$49/month (Basic, 500 keywords, 10 websites)
Free planFree trial (yes)
Wincher is for people who manage many sites and are tired of per-site pricing. The Standard tier at $89 a month tracks 1,000 keywords across unlimited websites with multi-user access, which is a genuinely unusual deal for portfolio owners and small agencies. The interface is simple because the product is simple: rankings, competitors, reports.
There is nothing else in it. No audits, no backlink index, no keyword research worth using, so pair it with another tool for everything except tracking. The brand is smaller, which means less community documentation when something confuses you. Setup takes minutes. If your problem is "I need rankings for 40 sites without paying per site," Wincher is built for you.
What we like- Simple, focused rank tracker without suite bloat
- Unlimited websites on Standard and above
- Affordable for multi-site tracking
Watch out for- Limited SEO features beyond rank tracking
- Smaller brand with less third-party documentation
Starting price$99/month (Starter, 1,000 terms)
Free planFree tier (100 terms for 30 days, then 20 terms, no card)
ProRankTracker is the report builder's rank tracker. White-label reports, separate desktop/mobile/local tracking and deep report customization made it an agency staple, and the free tier (100 terms for 30 days, then 20 ongoing) is genuinely usable for tiny needs. At $99 for 1,000 terms, it undercuts the suites for pure tracking volume.
The interface shows its age, and term-based pricing punishes large keyword lists: every location and device variant counts as a term, so a "1,000 keyword" campaign can become 4,000 terms fast. Do the term math before you compare prices. For agencies whose deliverable is the ranking report itself, the reporting depth justifies the quirks. For everyone else, the newer tools feel better.
What we like- Generous free tier for very small tracking needs
- Detailed reporting with white-label options
- Tracks desktop, mobile and local rankings separately
Watch out for- Interface feels dated next to newer trackers
- Pricing per term adds up for large keyword sets
Key takeaways
- If SEO is your job, the shortlist is Ahrefs ($129/month) versus Semrush ($139/month): pick by database depth for pure SEO or breadth across paid and content.
- If rank tracking is the job, AccuRanker ($249/month) has the fastest data, SE Ranking ($65/month) has the best value, and Wincher ($49/month) is cheapest for many sites.
- Beginners should start with Mangools ($29.90/month annual): the friendliest tools at the lowest credible price.
- Always compute price per keyword at your volume: term-based pricing (ProRankTracker) and keyword caps (Mangools) change the ranking completely at scale.
Price per keyword: the only math that matters
Rank tracker pricing looks simple until you normalize it. AccuRanker at $249 for 2,000 keywords costs about 12 cents per keyword per month. SE Ranking at $65 for its base keyword allowance lands in a similar band with audits included. Mangools at $29.90 looks cheapest until you hit the keyword cap and need the $89.90 tier. ProRankTracker at $99 for 1,000 terms looks competitive until you realize each location and device variant counts as a separate term.
Run your actual keyword list through each vendor's counting rules before you compare. A 500-keyword campaign tracked on desktop and mobile in two locations is 500 keywords on most tools but 2,000 terms on ProRankTracker. Agencies should also price the white-label reporting tier, not the entry tier, since the entry tier is never the one you ship to clients. The cheapest tracker at 200 keywords is rarely the cheapest at 5,000.
All-in-one suite vs. dedicated tracker
The category splits in two, and buying the wrong half wastes money. All-in-one suites (Ahrefs, Semrush, SE Ranking, Mangools) bundle rank tracking with keyword research, backlinks and audits. Dedicated trackers (AccuRanker, Nightwatch, Wincher, ProRankTracker) do rankings only, usually faster or cheaper per keyword.
Buy the suite if SEO is a discipline for you: the day you need backlink data or a content gap analysis, the bundle pays for itself. Buy the dedicated tracker if rankings are a deliverable: agencies shipping rank reports, portfolio owners monitoring dozens of sites, or teams that already own a suite and need faster rank data. The most common mistake is buying a suite for tracking and using 10% of it, or buying a tracker and then paying separately for the research tools the suite included.
Frequently asked questions
How much does keyword ranking software cost?
From $0 to $1,499 a month. Mangools starts at $29.90 a month on annual billing, SE Ranking at $65, Ahrefs at $129 and Semrush at $139. Dedicated trackers range from $32 (Nightwatch) to $249 (AccuRanker) to $449-plus on Ahrefs' higher tiers. ProRankTracker and Nightwatch have free tiers for very small tracking needs.
How many keywords should I track?
Fewer than you think. Track your money pages and their primary keywords, plus a sample of supporting content: usually 100 to 500 keywords for a small business, 1,000 to 5,000 for an agency portfolio. Tracking 10,000 keywords you never look at just inflates the bill. Start small; every tool lets you add keywords later.
Daily vs. on-demand rank updates: does it matter?
For most businesses, no. Daily updates are plenty for monthly reporting and trend analysis. On-demand updates (AccuRanker's strength) matter when rankings are volatile: after core updates, during migrations, or in hyper-competitive SERPs where positions shift intraday. If none of those describe you, do not pay extra for speed.
Can I track local rankings and mobile separately?
Yes, on most tools here. ProRankTracker, AccuRanker and SE Ranking all break out desktop, mobile and local results. This matters enormously for local businesses, where the map pack and mobile rankings drive calls. Just remember that each variant usually counts against your keyword or term allowance, so budget accordingly.
Do I need Ahrefs or Semrush if I only want rank tracking?
No. You are paying for databases you will not open. SE Ranking gives you tracking plus the basics at half the price, and Wincher or Nightwatch cover pure tracking for less. Buy the big suite when keyword research, backlinks or site audits become regular work, not before.
How we chose
We started with the categories buyers actually search: keyword ranking software, rank tracker, and SERP tracking tools. For each candidate we opened the vendor's own pricing page, checked plan names and prices against public reviews on G2 and Capterra and practitioner discussion on Reddit, and compared feature lists, data freshness and keyword-based pricing. Where a price could not be verified on the vendor's page we wrote "See website" rather than guessing. The shortlist mixes all-in-one suites with dedicated trackers, because an agency and a blogger are not buying the same thing.
