The best astrology apps for daily horoscopes free
Starting priceFree
Free planYes
Co-Star is the best free daily horoscope app for most people. It reads your whole birth chart rather than one sun-sign paragraph, sends a short daily alert to your phone, and lets you compare charts with friends, which is its social draw. All eight apps in this comparison are free to download, but Co-Star's free daily is the most popular, and its chart tools give a fuller picture than a generic sign horoscope.
The limits are tone and paywall. Co-Star's daily copy is famously blunt, which some readers love and others find harsh, and compatibility depth that was once free is now behind a paywall. Co-Star fits best for readers who want a quick daily habit plus friend charts at no cost.
What we like- Full birth chart plus daily alerts
- Compare charts with friends
- Most popular free daily in this list
Watch out for- Blunt tone that some readers find harsh
- Compatibility depth is now paywalled
- Paywall has tightened over time

The Pattern suits readers who bounce off astrology jargon. It drops the zodiac vocabulary entirely and reads like a personality profile, with timing insights about life cycles and Bonds that compare your patterns with contacts. For a skeptic or a beginner who wants self-reflection without learning chart terminology, that plain language is a real advantage.
The trade is format. The Pattern has no traditional daily horoscope, and its deepest content sits behind a Go Deeper plan from $14.99 per month. The Pattern fits best for readers who want jargon-free timing and relationship insight rather than a daily sign forecast.
What we like- No astrology jargon, reads like a personality profile
- Timing and relationship bonds
- Good for skeptics and beginners
Watch out for- No traditional daily horoscope
- Deepest content is paid from $14.99 per month
- Less chart detail than Co-Star

CHANI suits readers who want beautifully written, human-authored astrology rather than automated copy. Its readings come from astrologer Chani Nicholas, with a birth chart, daily content, and meditations in the same app, and its chart write-ups are the most detailed among the big apps in this list. For a reader ready to learn the traditional system, CHANI is the better teacher.
The limits are price and depth. The best material sits behind CHANI Plus at $11.99 per month, with a 14-day free trial before paying, and its readings are longer than a quick daily alert. CHANI fits best for readers who want warm, detailed, human-written astrology and are willing to pay for depth.
What we like- Warm, human-written astrology by Chani Nicholas
- Birth chart, daily, and meditations
- Most detailed chart write-ups among big apps
Watch out for- Best material sits behind CHANI Plus at $11.99 per month
- 14-day free trial, then paid
- Deeper than a quick daily habit

TimePassages suits learners who want to read their own chart rather than just receive a daily. Its free mobile basic tier includes a free daily horoscope, while its transits and progressions tools explain how current planetary positions interact with your birth chart. Its interpretations are human-written, which gives them a steadier tone than automated alerts.
The trade is design and pricing. Its interface looks dated, deep tools are desktop-paid from $79 or more, and mobile Pro costs $7.99 per month. TimePassages fits best for readers who want to learn chart reading and can tolerate an older design.
What we like- Free mobile basic with a free daily horoscope
- Transits and progressions explained
- Human-written interpretations
Watch out for- Dated design
- Deep tools are desktop-paid from $79 or more
- Mobile Pro at $7.99 per month

AstroMatrix suits readers who want the deepest free chart tools on a budget. Its free tier covers full chart tools, chart comparison, and several chart methods, with a paid tier at $14.99 per year, the cheapest paid option in this list. For a reader who wants to explore chart techniques without paying monthly, AstroMatrix gives the most tools for the least money.
The limits are polish. Its free tier carries heavy ads, its design is cluttered, and it feels less polished than Co-Star or CHANI. AstroMatrix fits best for chart enthusiasts who prioritize tools over design.
What we like- Full chart tools and chart comparison
- Several chart methods
- Cheapest paid tier here at $14.99 per year
Watch out for- Heavy ads on free
- Cluttered design
- Less polished than Co-Star or CHANI

Astrology Zone suits readers who want a classic daily horoscope by sun sign from a long-running voice. Susan Miller's monthly and daily forecasts are a staple for readers who follow one astrologer, and its free tier covers daily horoscopes with premium content available for deeper forecasts. For a reader who prefers a familiar monthly rhythm over a chart-based alert, Astrology Zone is the comfortable pick.
The trade is personalization. Its daily is sign-based, shared by a twelfth of the world, rather than built from your full birth chart, so it is less personal than Co-Star or CHANI. Astrology Zone fits best for readers who want a trusted sign-based daily from a single voice.
What we like- Daily horoscopes by sign from Susan Miller
- Free plus premium tiers
- Long-running, trusted voice
Watch out for- Sign-based, not full-chart personalization
- App experience varies by platform
- Premium content is paid

Cafe Astrology suits readers who want endless free reading material and do not mind a website. Its articles cover signs, planets, houses, and compatibility in depth, with free chart reports and no paywall anywhere on the site. For a reader who wants to study astrology for free, Cafe Astrology is the deepest free library in this list.
The limits are format. It is web-only with no app, its design is text-heavy, and it suits study more than a daily phone habit. Cafe Astrology fits best as a free reference alongside a daily app such as Co-Star.
What we like- All content free, no paywall
- Deep articles on signs, planets, and compatibility
- Free chart reports
Watch out for- Web-only, no app
- Text-heavy design
- Less suited to a daily phone habit

Astro.com suits readers who want an accurate birth chart above all else. Its chart service is long-running and respected, its free tools cover charts and basic reports, and its data is reliable enough that many astrologers use it as a reference. For a reader who wants to check a chart's accuracy before trusting an app's daily, Astro.com is the benchmark.
The trade is format and depth. It is web-only with a dated design, deeper reports are paid, and it is less suited to a daily phone habit than Co-Star. Astro.com fits best as a free chart reference alongside a daily app.
What we like- Accurate charts and basic reports
- Long-running, respected chart service
- Free chart tools
Watch out for- Web-only, dated design
- Paid reports for deeper analysis
- Less suited to a daily habit
How we chose
We compared these apps on free daily horoscope quality, birth chart depth, personalization, and what the free tier actually includes, since free plans differ more in limits than in features. Pricing figures come from vendor pages and current comparison guides checked in October 2026, and any figure we could not confirm is marked as See website. We did not claim hands-on testing. Instead we weighed public documentation, pricing pages, and user reviews, plus the practical difference between a sign-based daily and a full-chart daily.
What to check before you pick
Start with personalization. A star-sign daily is shared by a twelfth of the world, since it only looks at where the Sun was on your birthday, while a chart-based daily also reads your Moon, planets, and rising sign, so the same morning lands differently for two people born the same month. Co-Star, CHANI, TimePassages, and AstroMatrix all build a chart; the depth of the daily on top is what varies. Next, decide on habit: a phone alert suits Co-Star, a study library suits Cafe Astrology, and a human voice suits CHANI.
Paid trials and billing traps
Not every free trial is friendly. Some astrology apps run short trials that auto-convert to a recurring charge, and their reviews include billing and cancellation complaints, with Nebula the most-cited example. If you start any paid trial, set a reminder and cancel through your App Store or Google Play settings before it ends. The simplest way to avoid trial traps is to use an app that is actually free, such as Co-Star's free daily or Cafe Astrology's free library.
Astrology as entertainment, not advice
Astrology is entertainment and self-reflection, not a basis for financial, medical, or major life decisions. Do not make investment, health, or relationship choices from a horoscope, and treat compatibility readings as conversation starters, not verdicts. If a reading causes distress, talk to a trusted person or a professional rather than relying on an app.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free daily horoscope app?
Co-Star gives the most popular free daily, sent as a short phone alert from your full birth chart. Sanctuary's human-written daily is also free to read, and Cafe Astrology offers free daily content on the web without a paywall.
Are free astrology apps really free?
Most are free to download with a free tier, but deeper content is usually paid. Co-Star's daily and chart are free, CHANI's best material needs CHANI Plus, and The Pattern's deepest content needs a paid plan. Check what the free tier includes before installing.
Is a chart-based horoscope more accurate than a sign horoscope?
Neither is more accurate in a scientific sense, since astrology is not a science, but a chart-based daily is more personal, since it reads your Moon, planets, and rising sign rather than just your sun sign. A sign daily is shared by a twelfth of the world.
Which app is best for learning astrology?
TimePassages for chart reading with transits and progressions, CHANI for warm traditional readings with meditations, and Cafe Astrology for free in-depth articles. Lunary also offers a free learning library alongside daily notes.
Do I need to pay for a birth chart?
No. Co-Star, AstroMatrix, Astro.com, and Cafe Astrology all offer free birth charts. Paid tiers add deeper reports, compatibility depth, and ad-free use, but the basic chart is free in all four.
How do I avoid surprise charges from astrology apps?
Set a reminder before any trial ends, cancel through your App Store or Google Play settings, and check your subscription list monthly. Avoid apps with aggressive short trials, and prefer apps whose free tier covers your daily habit without a trial.
