How we make this list: we compare pricing pages, product documentation and public user reviews. Ratings come from G2, Capterra or Trustpilot, with the date we checked them.
Key takeaways
- The headline price is not your price: on a 50 dollar sale, October 2026 fee checks leave you about 40 dollars on Poshmark, 41 on eBay, 44 on Mercari and the full 50 on Vinted.
- eBay remains the everything marketplace with the deepest buyer pool, at 13.6 percent plus a per order fee charged on the item, the shipping and the sales tax.
- Vinted and Depop charge US sellers no selling fee at all; the buyer pays a protection or processing cost instead.
- Poshmark's 20 percent buys the simplest shipping in the business and a fashion audience that shares your listings for you.
- Shipping, packaging and your time come out of what is left, so price from the net figure backwards, never from the headline forwards.

eBay is the default for a reason: it is where buyers go to search. A specific lens, a discontinued part, a rare size: eBay's search traffic converts intent better than any social feed, and for long tail inventory nothing else comes close.
Its fee is the fullest expression of platform maths. The 13.6 percent applies not just to your price but to the shipping the buyer pays and the sales tax on top, plus a per order fee. Sellers who offer "free shipping" by baking it into the price pay fees on that shipping too, a detail that quietly eats the margin the offer was meant to protect.
Run the maths on every listing with the fee on the total, not the sticker, and eBay remains the professional's home base for expensive or unusual items.
What we like- The deepest buyer pool in resale: search driven shoppers looking for exactly your item, in nearly every category, sells everything from car parts to cameras to clothing with category specific fee rates, auctions and Buy It Now suit both rare and commodity goods, seller tools, promoted listings and shipping discounts are the most mature here
Watch out for- 13.6 percent final value fee in most categories plus 0.40 dollars per order, calculated on item, shipping and sales tax combined, the fee base means free shipping offers raise your fee bill, buyer friendly return policies can land costs on sellers, the audience expects deals
- Pricing power is weaker than the traffic suggests

Poshmark sells certainty. The fee is 20 percent, the shipping is a prepaid label, the buyers are there for fashion, and a good listing in an active closet moves. For clothing resellers, especially in women's fashion, that package outperforms platforms with half the fee and none of the audience.
The 20 percent demands respect in your pricing. A 50 dollar sale pays you 40, before your sourcing cost. Poshmark sellers who thrive price with the cut already in mind and use bundles (several items, one label) to make the shipping economics favour bigger baskets.
If your inventory is fashion and your temperament is social, Poshmark is the business.
What we like- The simplest shipping in resale: one prepaid label, buyer pays a flat rate, you print and drop off, a fashion audience that browses, shares and bundles, doing part of your marketing for you, the 20 percent fee is all in (selling and processing), so the maths is brutal but predictable, strong for women's, men's and kids clothing and home goods
Watch out for- 20 percent on sales of 15 dollars or more is the highest mainstream cut here (2.95 flat below 15 dollars), the social mechanics (sharing, following, parties) reward daily attention, not passive listings, mostly US and Canada, so the audience is narrower than eBay's, low priced items suffer: the flat fee and shipping economics squeeze small sales hardest

Mercari is the general store: almost anything legal sells, listing takes a minute, and the fee structure after its 2024 and 2025 reshuffles has settled into the cleanest in the business: 10 percent, no processing line, charged on item plus buyer paid shipping.
That simplicity followed a bumpy period in which fees moved between buyer and seller more than once, so re-check the schedule each season. For household clear outs and mid value goods, Mercari is the second listing most resellers cross post after eBay.
What we like- A flat 10 percent selling fee with no separate processing fee since January 2025, the simplest maths in this list, broad general merchandise audience: household goods, electronics, toys and clothing all sell, listing is fast and phone first, with smart pricing prompts, prepaid labels with buyer or seller paid options
Watch out for- The 10 percent is charged on the item plus buyer paid shipping, so shipping choices affect the fee, buyers also face a buyer protection fee at checkout, which raises the total price your item competes at, a payout fee applies when withdrawing earnings under current terms, per fee trackers, the audience skews deal hunting, so premium pricing is harder than on fashion platforms

Depop rewrote the fee conversation by deleting the selling fee. US sellers keep everything except processing (3.3 percent plus 45 cents), which on the 50 dollar example leaves about 47.48 against Poshmark's 40. For vintage and streetwear aimed at younger buyers, that gap funds a business.
Its culture is the price of admission: styled photography, quick replies and a shop with a point of view. Depop also carries live corporate news: eBay's acquisition of the platform was announced in 2026. Nothing in the October fee checks shows the zero fee changing, but treat that rate as a gift with a review date.
What we like- No US selling fee at all: the seller pays only payment processing at 3.3 percent plus 0.45 dollars, the youngest, most fashion forward audience here, built for vintage, Y2K and streetwear, a shop style feed where photography and styling sell the item, global reach beyond the US
Watch out for- Processing is charged on item, shipping and sales tax, so the real cost is higher than the 3.3 headline on shipped orders, optional Boost promotion adds a percentage fee on boosted sales, the audience's age means budgets are smaller and haggling is a sport, eBay's acquisition of Depop was announced in 2026 industry coverage, so sellers should watch for fee or policy alignment ahead

Vinted is the purest expression of seller maths honesty: the platform takes nothing from the seller. On the 50 dollar example you keep 50 dollars, a figure no other entry here can print. The money is made on the buyer's side through a protection fee, which slightly raises what buyers pay without touching your price.
That model attracts volume in everyday clothing, with a culture of reasonable prices and quick turnover. For clearing wardrobes at maximum keep rate, list on Vinted first and cross post the special pieces where the collectors live.
What we like- Zero seller fees in the US: you list free, sell free and keep the full price, the buyer pays a protection fee on their side instead, simple, phone first listing aimed at everyday wardrobes rather than professional inventory, strong for mid market clothing, kids items and household textiles, no shipping label gymnastics for standard sales
Watch out for- Zero fees means a buyer pool hunting bargains
- Premium and rare items earn less here than on eBay, the catalogue is fashion and home centred, so electronics and collectibles belong elsewhere, buyer protection rules can side with buyers in disputes, as on all platforms, professional seller tooling is thinner than eBay's

Whatnot is the live wire: sellers run auction shows for trading cards, sneakers, vintage and fashion, and the room bids. Its economics reward the format (8 percent commission at the base tier, less as you climb seller tiers, plus processing), and its energy can clear in an hour what listings move in a month.
The fee maths on a 50 dollar fashion sale, about 6.12 all in, sits between Mercari and eBay. The real cost is your time on camera. If you want to list quietly and ship, every other entry here suits you better.
What we like- Live auctions create prices no listing can: bidding energy in real time, especially for cards, sneakers, collectibles and fashion, an 8 percent commission at the base tier plus processing (2.9 percent plus 0.30) undercuts the static platforms' total take, seller tiers reduce commission as your four week sales grow, the audience arrives ready to buy, not to browse
Watch out for- Live selling is a performance job: you host, present and entertain on schedule, processing applies to the full order including shipping and tax, new sellers build an audience from zero, and slow shows sell slowly, unsold inventory still consumed your evening
- The format punishes the unprepared

Facebook Marketplace is two platforms wearing one name. Locally, it is the zero fee champion for the things shipping ruins: sofas, bikes, dressers, garden tools. Nationally, its shipped commerce is a 10 percent fee platform like the others, with a social audience attached.
The safety paragraph is part of the review, because on Marketplace you provide the caution. Meet in public for valuable items, take cash or payment you can verify on the spot, and treat any buyer asking to pay extra and be refunded as the scam it is. Used locally with those rules, Marketplace turns bulky clutter into full price cash faster than any rival here.
What we like- Local pickup sales carry no selling fee at all: the full price, in person, with no shipping cost or label, the natural home for furniture, appliances and anything too bulky to post, your buyers are neighbours, which cuts the strangest parts of internet selling down to a doorstep meeting, listing reaches the largest social audience in the country
Watch out for- Shipped sales carry a 10 percent selling fee, so the free story is local only, local selling means scheduling, no shows and doorstep negotiation as a way of life, scammers work Marketplace hard: fake payments and overpayment tricks target new sellers, safety practices are on you: public meeting spots, cash or verified payment, no shipping to a stranger's story

Grailed is the specialist shop: menswear, streetwear and designer pieces sold to buyers who search by label and era. For the right inventory (archive denim, limited sneakers' clothing cousins, designer staples), its prices realised beat the general platforms even after fees.
Its 2026 fee structure tiers by price: 6 percent commission under 120 dollars, 9 percent above, plus processing. On mid priced designer pieces that remains competitive with eBay's 13.6 percent.
List the general closet on Vinted and Poshmark; list the grails on Grailed.
What we like- The menswear authority: designer, streetwear and archive fashion buyers who know labels and pay for them, commission at 6 percent on items under 120 dollars undercuts the general platforms for its niche, a curated culture that keeps the catalogue's quality (and prices) up, international audience of collectors for the right pieces
Watch out for- Commission rises to 9 percent at 120 dollars and above (a tier added in May 2026), plus processing at 3.49 percent plus 0.49, the audience is menswear specific
- Womenswear and general goods belong elsewhere, authentication expectations and picky buyers come with the territory, minimum commission of 1.99 dollars punishes very cheap listings
How we chose
We shortlisted the resale platforms a US seller would realistically use in October 2026 across general, fashion, live and local selling. Fees were taken from October 2026 comparisons that checked each platform's own fee pages, including a worked 50 dollar sale across platforms; where a platform's fee base differs (item only versus item plus shipping plus tax) we said so in the entry, because the base matters as much as the rate. We did not sell test items for this article.
How to choose an app to resell on
Do the kept money maths on your own typical item before downloading anything. Take your average sale price, run it through each platform's fee on its actual base, subtract the shipping label you will really buy and the packaging you will really use. The ranking that falls out, not the headline rates, is your answer, and it flips with price: Poshmark's flat fee punishes small sales, eBay's tax inclusive base punishes high shipping, Vinted wins every small fashion sum.
Second, match the item to the audience's intent. Search intent (eBay) pays for the specific and rare. Social browsing (Poshmark, Depop) pays for the fashionable. Live energy (Whatnot) pays for the collectible. Local pickup (Marketplace) pays for the bulky.
Third, price from net backwards. Decide what the item must leave you after fees, shipping and your sourcing cost, then set the list price that produces it on that platform. Sellers who price forwards from a hopeful number donate the difference to the fee schedule.
Finally, cross post deliberately. Listing the same item on two or three platforms costs minutes and multiplies the audience; just remove sold items everywhere at once.
Frequently asked questions
Which reselling app has the lowest fees?
Vinted, at zero seller fees in the US, with the buyer paying a protection fee. Depop is next (processing only, about 2.52 dollars on a 50 dollar sale), then Mercari at a flat 10 percent. Facebook Marketplace local pickup is also fee free, with safety responsibilities attached.
Which app is best for beginners?
Mercari for general items, for its flat 10 percent fee and one minute listings, or Vinted for a wardrobe clear out at zero fees. Poshmark suits beginners in fashion who will enjoy its social side; eBay rewards beginners with unusual items more than common ones.
How much do I actually keep on a 100 dollar sale?
From October 2026 comparisons: about 96 dollars on Depop, about 86 to 90 on Mercari and eBay depending on shipping and tax treatment, and 80 on Poshmark. Vinted keeps the full 100 before shipping and sourcing costs.
Is live selling on Whatnot worth it?
If you hold collectible or fashion inventory and can host regularly, the 8 percent base commission and auction energy can clear stock faster and higher than listings. If you cannot commit the evenings, the same stock earns more per hour of your time on the listing platforms.
Do I need to pay tax on reselling income?
In the US, selling for profit is taxable income, and platforms report sales to the IRS on Form 1099-K under the thresholds in force. Casual sellers clearing personal items at a loss generally owe nothing on those sales, but keep records either way. This is not tax advice.
