Top Rated Local SEO Tracking Software in 2026: 8 Tools Compared

Key takeaways

  • Most local rank trackers now charge by credits, and one credit equals one map point scanned. A 5x5 grid costs 25 credits per keyword each time it runs. Grid size and scan frequency affect your bill more than the plan name does.
  • Whitespark Local Ranking Grids has the lowest entry price we found at $10 per month for 2,000 credits. Local Falcon starts at $24.99 per month for 7,500 credits.
  • BrightLocal and Localo bundle tracking with listings, audits and reviews. For a single business that wants one dashboard instead of several tools, that bundle is better value.
  • Free trials vary a lot. BrightLocal and Localo give 14 days with no card. Local Falcon gives 100 credits, Whitespark gives 200 credits, and Search Atlas offers 7 days.
  • Unused credits usually expire. Whitespark and Local Falcon monthly plans both reset each billing period. Local Falcon annual plans carry credits over until the year ends.

The best local SEO tracking software

#1

BrightLocal

Best for: Single-location businesses that want rankings, audits and citations together
4.6/5 on G2 (230 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit brightlocal.com
Starting price$39 per month per location, or $31 per month billed annually ($369/year)
Free planFree trial (14 days, no card)
BrightLocal homepage

BrightLocal is the safest pick for an owner or in-house marketer who wants one tool that shows both where you rank and why. The entry Track plan tracks local rankings for up to 100 keywords against four competitors. It also runs local SEO audits, checks your citations and compares your Google Business Profile with rivals. A local AI visibility tracker is included too, which helps if you want to know how your business shows up in AI answers.

The geo-grid feature (Local Search Grid) does more than show colored dots. It compares your profile with the competitors that beat you at specific grid points. Then the AI Insights layer turns that comparison into a task list. For a busy manager, that matters more than a finer grid.

The catch is the per-location model. One location on Track costs $39 a month, or $31 a month billed annually. On that plan the geo-grid only covers five keywords. If you need listings sync or review tools, you move up to Manage ($40/month annual) or Grow ($49/month annual). Agencies with dozens of clients should ask for a custom quote before committing.

What we like
  • Track plan covers up to 100 keywords and four competitors
  • Geo-grid view plus citation and Google Business Profile audits
  • No credit card needed for the trial
Watch out for
  • Geo-grid on the entry plan is limited to five keywords
  • Pricing scales per location, which adds up for multi-site brands
#2

Local Falcon

Best for: SEO pros who want the most detailed map scans and share-of-voice metrics
Visit localfalcon.com
Starting price$24.99 per month for 7,500 credits
Free planFree trial (100 credits)
Local Falcon homepage

Local Falcon was the first grid-style local rank tracker in 2018, and it still feels built by people who care a lot about map pack data. You buy credits, and every pin on the map uses one. One 5x5 scan for one keyword costs 25 credits, so the $24.99 Starter plan (7,500 credits) covers about 300 of those scans a month. Its SoLV (share of local voice) metric gives client reports a single number that is easier to read than an average rank.

Reporting is the main reason to pick it. You get scan, competitor, trend and campaign reports, plus white-label versions. You can also schedule scans for a specific time, which matters because business hours can affect local rankings. Falcon AI analysis costs 25 credits per report, and the Falcon Agent assistant is free on any plan.

The weakness is that Starter leaves out a lot. The Looker Studio and Zapier integrations and the Data Retrieval API only come with Basic ($49.99/month) or an annual plan. Monthly credits also expire. If your usage goes up and down, annual billing ($299.88/year for Starter) is the better deal because credits carry over within the year.

What we like
  • Grid sizes up to 21x21 with flexible point placement
  • Scheduled scans at a set date and time
  • Looker Studio, Zapier and data API on plans above Starter
Watch out for
  • Credits on monthly plans expire at the end of each period
  • Add-ons such as review analysis reports cost extra
#3

Whitespark Local Ranking Grids

Best for: Cost-conscious agencies and consultants tracking many locations
Visit whitespark.ca
Starting price$10 per month for 2,000 credits
Free planFree trial (200 credits, no card)
Whitespark Local Ranking Grids homepage

Whitespark, a local SEO software company, built Local Ranking Grids as a simple, focused tracker. Plans start at $10 a month for 2,000 credits and go up to $200+ for 65,000 credits or more. The price per credit drops from $0.005 to $0.003 as you buy more. Grids go up to 225 points (15x15). A calculator on the pricing page suggests a plan based on your locations, keywords, grid size and how often you scan.

The big plus is that you pay for credits, not locations. A consultant with ten small clients pays for scans, not seats. You can share live, white-label grids with a link, group businesses by client or region, and show every competitor on the map. Whitespark will also move your setup over from another tool for free.

The tradeoff is that this product only does grids. Organic rank tracking, citation building and Google Business Profile management are separate Whitespark products. If you need more than map tracking, the total cost goes up.

What we like
  • Lowest entry price on this list
  • Pricing based on credits, not locations
  • Free migration from another tool
Watch out for
  • Grid tracking only, so audits and listings need other Whitespark products
  • Unused credits expire each billing period
#4

Semrush

Best for: Marketing teams already paying for Semrush who want map rankings in the same place
4.4/5 on G2 (4,035 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit semrush.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planFree trial
Semrush homepage

Semrush makes sense when local search is just one of the channels you manage. Its Map Rank Tracker started inside the Listings Management product and is now a separate tool. It reports share of search, average ranking and rank distribution, and it shows the top 20 competitors for each keyword you track. Grid sizes run from 5x5 to 15x15.

The advantage is having everything in one place. Organic rankings, local grids, backlink data and site audits all sit in one account. That saves time for a marketer who reports on every channel at once. Reports export to PDF.

The downside is that pricing is hard to pin down. Semrush sells local features inside its main packages and as separate add-ons, and the prices change often, so we list it as See website. You can also only choose how often and on which day a scan runs, not the hour.

What we like
  • Map Rank Tracker sits alongside keyword, backlink and site audit tools
  • Tracks an unlimited number of keywords
  • Share of search and rank distribution metrics
Watch out for
  • Scheduler lets you pick a day but not a time of day
  • Local add-ons cost extra on top of core plans, so check the total
#5

Localo

Best for: Owners who want to be told exactly what to do next
Visit localo.com
Starting price$49 per month, or $39 per month billed annually (plus VAT where applicable)
Free planFree trial (14 days, no card)
Localo homepage

Localo was founded in 2020 in Krakow, Poland, and it's built for business owners who don't want to learn local SEO. Its position map sets the grid size and spacing for you, based on how crowded and competitive your area is. You get a visibility score and a difficulty index that show where you are weak and which neighborhoods to work on first.

The appeal is that each report comes with things to do. Localo includes post scheduling, citation tools and an AI assistant that suggests tasks for your profile. For a dentist or plumber who checks in once a week, that helps more than a 21x21 grid.

Advanced users will find it limiting. Grids range from 9 to 49 points, reports run weekly, and you can't choose when a scan runs. Agencies should look at the Pro plan ($149/month billed annually) or ask sales about Enterprise.

What we like
  • Area Difficulty Index and Business Visibility score are easy for non-specialists
  • Includes post scheduling and an AI Google Business Profile manager
  • Annual discount stays as long as you keep the same plan
Watch out for
  • Grids top out around 7x7 equivalent
  • Scans run weekly with no custom timing
#6

Local Viking

Best for: Businesses that want Google Business Profile posting and grids in one tool
Visit localviking.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planNo

Local Viking launched in 2017 as a Google Business Profile management tool, and that is still its main focus. Automated posting, review management and content creation sit next to the GeoGrid tracker. If your weekly routine is posting updates and checking whether rankings moved, it handles both.

Its reports have some useful extras. You can put two grid reports side by side, make a time-lapse GIF that shows progress over months, and save SERP screenshots as proof for doubtful clients. SAB mode helps plumbers, cleaners and other service-area businesses that hide their address.

It has clear limits, though. The largest grid is 13x13. You can pick the day of the week for scans but not the time. White-label reports and the lead-generation widget are only on Pro and higher plans. We could not confirm prices on Local Viking's own site for this update, so check its current plans before you buy.

What we like
  • Side-by-side GeoGrid comparison and time-lapse GIF reports
  • SAB mode for service-area businesses
  • CSV export and SERP screenshots
Watch out for
  • Grid tracker is not sold on its own
  • No scheduling at a specific time
  • White label only on higher tiers
#7

Local Dominator

Best for: Agencies that want many grid shapes and scheduled scans
Visit localdominator.co
Starting priceSee website
Free planNo

Local Dominator is a smaller vendor aimed at agencies. Its grid tracker comes as part of a larger Google Business Profile toolkit that also covers keyword research, backlink analysis and post scheduling. It is one of the few tools here that offers circular grids, which can match a real service area better than a square.

Scheduling is a strong point. You can set repeat scans for the time you choose, which keeps your data comparable from week to week. Shareable links let clients see live results without you exporting files.

The concern for a cautious buyer is the lack of outside proof. When we checked, it had very few reviews on G2 and Capterra, so there's little independent evidence on support quality or data accuracy. We also couldn't confirm current prices on the vendor's site, so check how many credits each plan includes before signing up.

What we like
  • Eleven grid sizes from 3x3 to 13x13, plus circle or square grids
  • Recurring scans can run daily, weekly or monthly at a chosen time
  • Credits carry over on some accounts
Watch out for
  • Very few public reviews on major software review sites
  • No standard free trial
#8

Search Atlas

Best for: Agencies replacing several SEO tools with one platform
Visit searchatlas.com
Starting price$99 per month (Starter, billed monthly)
Free planFree trial (7 days)
Search Atlas homepage

Search Atlas is not just a local tracker. It's a full SEO platform with local heatmaps, citations, AI content and client reports. It suits agencies that want to cancel several other subscriptions. Every plan uses shared credits that you can spend on rank checks, audits or content.

That flexibility is the main draw. A small agency can move its monthly budget from content to rank tracking without changing plans. The Growth plan ($199/month) raises the Google Business Profile limit to 10 and adds tracking for AI chatbot (LLM) visibility.

For a single local business, it's more than you need. Starter costs $99 a month and covers only three profiles, several times the price of Whitespark or Local Falcon for plain map tracking. Choose it only if you'll use the other tools too.

What we like
  • Local heatmaps sit next to rank tracking, site audits and AI content
  • One shared credit budget for every tool
  • Growth plan includes free onboarding
Watch out for
  • Starter covers only three Google Business Profiles
  • Expensive if you only need local grids

How we chose

We began with the tools local SEO specialists mention most for map pack and geo-grid tracking. We kept only products that track local rankings today. For each one we read the vendor's pricing page and product documentation, recorded the plan limits (credits, keywords, locations, grid sizes, scheduling) and checked the free trial terms. When we couldn't confirm a price on the vendor's own site, we wrote See website instead of guessing.

We also read public feedback on G2, Capterra and Reddit, along with published feature comparisons. That helped us judge support, accuracy complaints and whether each tool suits small businesses or agencies. Affiliate terms played no part in the ranking, and we did not run our own hands-on tests for this guide.

What to check before you pay for a local rank tracker

Do the credit math first

Most tools here charge per grid point. Multiply locations by keywords by grid points by scans per month. Three locations, 15 keywords, a 5x5 grid and weekly scans come to roughly 4,900 credits a month. That fits Whitespark's $20 plan or Local Falcon's Starter. Move to a 7x7 grid and the bill almost doubles.

Decide how much tool you need

If you only want to see map pack positions, a focused tracker like Whitespark or Local Falcon is cheaper and simpler. If you also need citation cleanup, review requests and profile audits, a bundle like BrightLocal or Localo costs less than buying three separate products.

Look at scheduling and consistency

Local rankings change during the day, and a business can drop in results while it's closed. Tools that let you set the exact scan time, like Local Falcon and Local Dominator, give cleaner trend lines than tools that only let you pick a day.

Check what happens to unused credits

Monthly credits usually expire. Annual plans sometimes carry them over within the year. If your scanning is seasonal, this can save real money.

Plan for reporting and export

Agencies should check which plan includes white-label reports. In-house teams should look for CSV export, Looker Studio connectors or an API. That way your data isn't stuck in one dashboard if you switch tools later.

Frequently asked questions

What is a geo-grid rank tracker?

It checks your Google Maps ranking for a keyword from many points across a map instead of one spot. The result is a grid showing where you rank well and where competitors beat you. This matters because local results can change from one block to the next.

How much should a small business spend on local SEO tracking?

One location tracking a few keywords can usually stay under $50 a month. Whitespark starts at $10, Local Falcon at $24.99, and BrightLocal at $31 to $39 depending on billing. Costs go up mainly with more keywords, bigger grids and more frequent scans.

How often should I run local rank scans?

Weekly is enough for most single-location businesses. Run scans on the same day and at the same time each week so the results are comparable. Daily scans only make sense during active campaigns or when you're looking into a sudden drop.

Can I track rankings for a service-area business with no address shown?

Yes, several tools support this. Local Viking has a dedicated SAB mode, and Localo's tracker also works for service-area businesses. Place your grid over the area you actually serve, not around your hidden address.

Is a free trial enough to judge accuracy?

Usually yes, for a basic check. During the trial, scan two or three keywords, then search on a phone in those areas and compare the results. BrightLocal and Localo give 14 days, while Local Falcon and Whitespark give free credits instead of time.

Do these tools track AI search visibility too?

Some are starting to. BrightLocal's Track plan includes a local AI visibility tracker, Local Falcon offers AI visibility tracking, and Search Atlas includes AI chatbot (LLM) visibility checks on Growth and higher plans. These features are new, so check which AI tools they actually cover.
