8 Best CCleaner Alternatives in 2026: 8 Tools Compared

Key takeaways

  • BleachBit is the best alternative for most people: free forever, open source, no ads, no paid tier, with privacy cleaning as its strength.
  • Microsoft PC Manager and the built in Storage Sense mean many Windows 11 users need no third party tool at all.
  • Glary Utilities Pro ($39.95 a year for 3 PCs) is the full toolkit answer for users who want CCleaner's all in one shape for less money.
  • Ashampoo WinOptimizer is the one time licence holdout at around $30, for buyers done with subscriptions.

The best CCleaner alternatives in 2026

#1

BleachBit

Best for: Free open source cleaning and privacy
3.0/5 on G2 (2 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit bleachbit.org
Starting priceFree
Free planYes

BleachBit wins this category on trust arithmetic. Cleaner software operates with deep system access, and the free, open source tool with nothing to sell you is structurally the safest pair of hands. Multiple 2026 roundups name it the best CCleaner alternative outright, and its privacy cleaning is deeper than CCleaner's.

What you give up is polish and automation. BleachBit cleans when you run it, thoroughly, and otherwise leaves you alone, which many users come to prefer over a resident suite with opinions. For a monthly manual clean, nothing here beats it at any price.

What we like
  • Completely free and open source with no paid tier, no ads and nothing to upsell, ever, deep cleaning of caches, logs and browser data across Windows and Linux, with secure file shredding and free space wiping, a favourite of privacy minded users and system administrators, with a command line mode for scripts, the code is auditable, which in a category full of scareware is a meaningful credential
Watch out for
  • No Mac version, no registry cleaner (a deliberate omission its fans defend and CCleaner migrants may miss), the interface is utilitarian
  • There is no hand holding dashboard, cleaning power means destructive power: preview before deleting, as with all of these
#2

Microsoft PC Manager

Best for: Simple official cleanup from Microsoft
Visit microsoft.com
Starting priceFree
Free planYes

PC Manager is the answer Microsoft should have shipped a decade ago: the legitimate, free, first party version of the cleanup button. For most Windows 11 households it ends this search, especially paired with Storage Sense quietly emptying temporary files on schedule.

Its limits are real but well aimed: it does the 90 percent job (space back, startups trimmed) and declines the risky 10 percent (registry adventures). Users who know why they need more are exactly the users equipped to choose from the rest of this list.

What we like
  • Microsoft's own free app: storage cleanup, startup management, a health check and process tools in a plain interface, no ads, no upsells, no third party with system level access to vet, integrates with Windows Security and the built in Storage Sense for automatic routine cleanup, the safest recommendation for non technical users who just want the button CCleaner gave them
Watch out for
  • Shallower than the suites: no deep privacy cleaning of BleachBit or PrivaZer depth, availability and feature set have rolled out unevenly by region and Windows version, power users will exhaust its options in one sitting, Microsoft collects the telemetry Microsoft collects
  • The privacy absolutist picks BleachBit
#3

Glary Utilities

Best for: Full toolkit under one roof
4.1/5 on G2 (14 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit glarysoft.com
Starting price$39.95 per year
Free planYes

Glary Utilities is the suite answer: if your CCleaner habit was really twenty small utilities in one icon, Glary is the same shape with a lower three PC price and a free edition that does not expire.

Use it with the category warning applied: schedule the junk cleaning and startup management, leave the registry module alone, and it will serve a household's PCs quietly for years. The value case rests entirely on that disciplined use.

What we like
  • More than 20 utilities in one app: cleaner, startup manager, disk analysis, duplicate finder, uninstaller and more, a generous free edition covers the core without a card, Pro at $39.95 a year covers 3 PCs, undercutting CCleaner's $64.95 for the same three device coverage in one comparison, the closest full suite replacement for users who liked CCleaner's breadth
Watch out for
  • Breadth includes the registry tools this article advises treating with suspicion, the interface carries years of accumulated features
  • It can feel dated and dense, free edition prompts toward Pro, constant discounting makes the true price a checkout question
#4

Wise Disk Cleaner

Best for: Fast, simple, genuinely free cleanup
Visit wisecleaner.com
Starting priceFree
Free planYes

Wise Disk Cleaner is the minimalist's CCleaner: the one job, done quickly, free, on a schedule. Users who found suites bloated, an irony the category invites, land here and stay.

Its ceiling is its focus. The day you need disk analysis, uninstall management or privacy wiping, you graduate to Glary or BleachBit. Until that day, Wise is the least software that solves the problem, which is a compliment in utilities.

What we like
  • A focused junk cleaner: temporary files, browser traces and system slimming in a fast, light app, genuinely free with no paid tier for this product (Wise sells a separate Care suite), so the nag factor is minimal, scheduled cleaning is included, a feature many free rivals reserve for premium, disk defragmentation and SSD aware optimisation included
Watch out for
  • Cleaning only: no suite of extra utilities, no privacy shredding depth of PrivaZer or BleachBit, Windows only, its sibling product upsells exist in the same ecosystem
  • Read installer screens, support and development ride on a small vendor
#5

PrivaZer

Best for: Deep privacy trace cleaning
Visit privazer.com
Starting priceFree
Free planYes

PrivaZer serves the moment the others do not: preparing a PC for sale, return or a new owner, and the ongoing privacy hygiene of shared machines. Its scans find what quick cleaners leave, because finding leftovers is its entire design brief.

For routine monthly tidying it is overkill with a waiting time. Keep BleachBit or Wise for the routine and PrivaZer for the deep clean occasions, which is how its own community uses it.

What we like
  • The privacy specialist: deep scans for traces in free space, file tables and leftover artefacts other cleaners miss, with secure overwriting, free for home use, with a Pro version funded by contribution rather than a fixed price in our sources, a portable version runs from a USB stick, useful for cleaning a machine before sale or disposal, highly rated in disk cleanup comparisons (4.8 in one 2026 roundup's table)
Watch out for
  • Deep cleaning is slow cleaning: full trace scans take real time, power brings risk: the same thoroughness demands care and backups before a first run, Windows only, and the interface assumes you know what a trace is, not a beginner's first cleaner
#6

Ashampoo WinOptimizer

Best for: One time licence optimisation suite
3.8/5 on G2 (18 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit ashampoo.com
Starting price$30 one time
Free planNo

Ashampoo's appeal is contractual: pay once, own the tool, be left alone. For the large population of CCleaner refugees whose complaint is rent seeking rather than features, WinOptimizer is the closest suite with the model they want.

Be honest about the edition cycle. If you skip versions for three years, the one time model wins clearly. If you buy every annual edition, you have reinvented the subscription at a discount, which is still fine, just know which you are doing.

What we like
  • A full optimisation suite (cleaning, startup control, tweaking, benchmarking) sold as a one time licence, $30 for the 2026 edition in most listings, with one September 2026 test roundup spotting it at $14 on promotion, a German vendor with a long consumer software history and a 30 day trial, the like for like CCleaner replacement reviewers name most: same breadth without the subscription, privacy settings for Windows telemetry are a thoughtful inclusion
Watch out for
  • One time buys the current edition
  • The next year's version is a new purchase, which is a subscription wearing a hat if you upgrade annually, Windows only, benchmark and tuning modules invite the same scepticism as all performance claims in this category, promotional pricing fluctuates enough that the figure needs a checkout check
#7

IObit Advanced SystemCare

Best for: Maximum automation for beginners
Visit iobit.com
Starting price$29.99 per year
Free planYes

Advanced SystemCare is the suite for the user who wants a faster feeling PC without learning anything. Its one click model is genuinely its feature, and its audience, family IT support desks everywhere, values exactly that.

Install it on a relative's machine with the automatic care set conservatively, and it earns its price in avoided phone calls. Install it on your own workstation, where you want to know what changed, and its helpfulness becomes the problem.

What we like
  • The most automated suite here: one click care routines, performance monitoring and a beginner friendly dashboard, free edition is capable
  • Pro lists at $29.99 a year, with street prices often lower in promotions, covers cleaning, startup optimisation, privacy sweeping and basic security in one pass, suits users who will never open a settings page
Watch out for
  • Automation plus breadth means accepting its judgement calls on your system, the exact trade careful users avoid, IObit's marketing and cross promotion are persistent
  • Expect offers for its sibling products, independent reviewers consistently place its cleaning depth behind BleachBit and the focused tools, renewal pricing after promotional first years needs watching
#8

CleanMyMac

Best for: The Mac equivalent done properly
4.5/5 on G2 (33 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit macpaw.com
Starting price$39.95 per year
Free planNo

CleanMyMac is here because half the CCleaner alternative searches come from Mac users CCleaner itself served thinly. MacPaw's app is the platform's reference cleaner: safe defaults, clear previews and an uninstaller that actually removes leftovers.

Apply the same discipline as on Windows: use it for space and leftovers, skip any performance promises, and it will justify $39.95 the first time it finds 40 GB of forgotten device backups. Mac users who prefer free should know the manual routes exist in Finder and Terminal; CleanMyMac sells the button, honestly.

What we like
  • The established Mac cleaner from MacPaw: junk and cache removal, malware scanning, uninstaller and updater in a polished native interface, Macs accumulate the same cruft as PCs (old iOS backups, language files, cache mountains), and this is the tool built specifically for that terrain, a one time purchase option exists beside the $39.95 a year subscription in MacPaw's store, widely reviewed and notarised, from a known developer, in a category where Mac scareware also exists
Watch out for
  • Mac only, obviously, and proud of it, the price draws the same why pay for cleaning debate as CCleaner, aimed at users who value the polish, macOS handles much maintenance itself
  • The value is in the visible, safe interface to the rest, subscription first pricing model, like everything else in 2026

How we chose

We selected from August to October 2026 cleaner comparisons that checked vendor pricing pages, spanning the real market structure: free with no paid tier (BleachBit, Wise Disk Cleaner, PC Manager), privacy depth (PrivaZer), freemium suites (Glary Utilities, Advanced SystemCare), a one time licence (Ashampoo) and the Mac standard (CleanMyMac). Registry cleaning was explicitly down weighted, following the sources' own caution, and one heavily promoted name in older guides (Restoro) was excluded because the FTC's 2024 settlement over its fake infection pop ups disqualifies it from an honest list. The publisher's own cleaning software guide appeared in results and was not cited, per standing practice. CCleaner is excluded as the article's target. We did not claim hands-on testing.

What cleaning software can and cannot do in 2026

Set expectations before choosing. These tools reliably do three things: reclaim disk space from caches, logs and forgotten downloads; control what launches at startup, the single biggest felt speed win on older machines; and erase usage traces for privacy. On a modern SSD machine with space to spare, the honest speed gain is small, because the bottleneck was never junk files.

What they cannot do is make old hardware young, fix a failing drive, or substitute for RAM. A cleaner that promises dramatic speed is selling the feeling of maintenance. Buy the space, the startup control and the privacy, from the cheapest tool that does them safely, and this category becomes simple.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a completely free CCleaner alternative with no paid tier?

Yes, three: BleachBit, Wise Disk Cleaner and Microsoft PC Manager (plus the Storage Sense built into Windows). BleachBit and Wise have no paid tier for the cleaner itself; PC Manager is free from Microsoft. For most users one of these ends the search.

Are registry cleaners worth using?

The consensus in current comparisons is no: registry cleaning delivers no measurable speed on modern Windows and carries the category's main risk of breaking things. Judge cleaners on junk removal, startup management and scheduling. This is also why BleachBit, which omits a registry cleaner, loses no points here.

Why is one popular alternative missing from this list?

Restoro appears in older guides, but the FTC announced a $26 million settlement with its operators in March 2024 over fake Microsoft infection pop ups used to sell the product. A tool sold through scare tactics does not belong in an honest alternatives list, whatever its current marketing says.

Which alternative is best for a Mac?

CleanMyMac, the platform's established cleaner at $39.95 a year, with safe previews and a proper uninstaller. BleachBit does not ship a Mac build. Budget minded Mac users can do much of the job manually, but no free Mac tool here matches CleanMyMac's completeness.

Will a cleaner speed up my old PC?

A little, in specific ways: freeing a nearly full drive and trimming startup programs produce real, felt improvements. Beyond that, no. If the machine is short on RAM or running a dying hard drive, money spent there outperforms any software on this page, and a good cleaner (BleachBit, free) will tell you the space story honestly before you spend anything.
