Best Code Security Tools for Cloud in 2026: 8 Tools Compared

Key takeaways

  • Snyk Code is the developer first default: Team plans from 25 dollars per developer per month and a free tier to start with.
  • GitHub Code Security at 30 dollars per active committer per month is the obvious pick for GitHub native teams, with code scanning inside the pull request.
  • SonarQube Cloud and Semgrep are the other published price options, from about 32 dollars per month by lines of code and about 30 dollars per contributor per month.
  • Aikido Security prices flat, reported around 300 dollars per month for 10 users, and suits small teams tired of per seat maths.
  • Checkmarx One, Veracode and Wiz Code are quote priced enterprise platforms. No tool on this list makes an application secure by itself; they find issues, people fix them.

The best code security tools for cloud

#1

Snyk

Best for: Developer first scanning across code and dependencies
Visit snyk.io
Starting price$25 per dev/month (Team)
Free planYes

Snyk is the tool developers actually leave switched on. It scans code, dependencies, containers and infrastructure definitions, then puts the finding where the developer already works, with a suggested fix. That adoption record is why it leads developer first shortlists.

The enterprise end needs a careful commercial conversation. Recent reporting describes credit based metering at the top tier, where Snyk Code usage draws down prepaid credits per active contributor. Model your contributor count before you sign anything.

What we like
  • Snyk Code, open source SCA, container and IaC scanning in one platform aimed at developers, free tier with limited monthly tests, Team pricing published at 25 dollars per contributing developer per month, findings arrive in the IDE and pull request with fix guidance, very wide integration catalogue
Watch out for
  • Enterprise pricing moved to a credit model in recent reporting, which clouds cost forecasting, SAST depth is generally rated behind Checkmarx and Veracode by enterprise buyers, per developer pricing climbs quickly across large organisations, test limits on cheaper plans need watching
#2

GitHub Code Security

Best for: GitHub native code scanning
Visit github.com
Starting price$30 per committer/month
Free planNo
GitHub Code Security homepage

For a team that lives in GitHub, this is the shortest path to serious scanning. CodeQL is a genuinely strong analysis engine, and the results surface as pull request annotations and security alerts inside the tool developers already open every day.

The pricing unit deserves attention: an active committer is anyone who committed to a private repository in the window, including people who never see a finding. Count your committers, not your security team, before forecasting.

What we like
  • Code scanning with CodeQL analysis runs inside GitHub pull requests with no extra platform to adopt, priced at 30 dollars per active committer per month in current comparisons, secret protection is the companion product on the same bill, free for public repositories, dependency review and Dependabot alerts complete the pipeline picture
Watch out for
  • Only helps repositories on GitHub, priced per committer across the organisation, which surprises finance teams, CodeQL depth is strong for supported languages but narrower than enterprise suites in exotic stacks, private repository scanning needs the paid tier, reporting across many organisations is thinner than dedicated platforms
#3

SonarQube Cloud

Best for: Code quality and security in one scan
Visit sonarsource.com
Starting priceFrom $34 per month (Team)
Free planNo
SonarQube Cloud homepage

SonarQube is the quality gate many teams already run, and its cloud edition adds security scanning to the same report. If your pipeline already fails builds on Sonar quality gates, extending it into security is a small step.

Know what the default rules cover. Reviewers note that most Sonar rules target maintainability and bugs, with security a smaller share; teams with strict AppSec requirements usually pair it with, or graduate to, a dedicated SAST tool.

What we like
  • Scans for security issues and code quality together, so teams fix both in one pass, Team plans start at about 34 dollars per month for 100,000 lines of code in current comparisons, among the widest language coverage in the category, including legacy languages, free Community Build exists for self hosted trials
Watch out for
  • Priced by lines of code on the largest branch, which large monorepos feel keenly, only a minority of the default rule set is security specific, deeper security analysis sits in higher editions, the cloud and server editions differ in features, so check which you are buying
#4

Semgrep

Best for: Rule based scanning teams can extend
4.6/5 on G2 (56 reviews, checked Oct 2026)
Visit semgrep.dev
Starting price$30 per contributor/month
Free planYes

Semgrep's idea is that the people who know your codebase should be able to write the rules. Its pattern syntax is closer to the code itself than to a query language, so a security engineer can ban a dangerous function across every repository in an afternoon.

It suits teams with at least one person who enjoys that work. Without a rule owner, the paid tier still scans well with registry rules, but you are paying for an extensibility you never use.

What we like
  • Rules are readable and writable by your own team, which few scanners allow, free community edition plus a large public rule registry, paid Code product adds cross file analysis the open source edition lacks, Team pricing reported around 30 to 35 dollars per contributor per month, fast scans that fit pull request workflows
Watch out for
  • The free edition analyses single files, so cross file vulnerabilities need the paid product, writing good custom rules is a skill you must staff, enterprise programme features are lighter than Checkmarx or Veracode, per contributor pricing needs the same counting care as Snyk
#5

Aikido Security

Best for: Small teams wanting flat pricing
Visit aikido.dev
Starting priceFrom $300 per month (reported)
Free planYes

Aikido sells calm. Small teams drowning in scanner noise are its target: one flat bill, most test types included, and findings filtered by whether the vulnerable code is reachable. Reported pricing puts entry paid plans near 300 dollars a month for 10 users.

Verify the current plan table before budgeting, because third party trackers publish slightly different figures. The model, flat rather than per seat, is the point either way.

What we like
  • Flat pricing rather than per seat: reported around 300 to 350 dollars per month for a plan including 10 users and 100 repositories, bundles SAST, SCA, secrets, container and cloud checks in one product, built to cut noise, with reachability analysis to deprioritise findings that cannot be hit, free tier to evaluate
Watch out for
  • Trackers disagree on exact plan prices, so confirm on its pricing page, younger and smaller vendor than the enterprise names here, deep enterprise reporting and compliance packs are thinner, flat pricing favours small teams
  • Large estates move to custom tiers
#6

Wiz Code

Best for: Connecting code findings to cloud risk
Visit wiz.io
Starting priceSee website
Free planNo

Wiz Code answers a prioritisation question: of the thousand findings your scanners produce, which three sit on internet facing, sensitive workloads? By joining code findings to its cloud graph, Wiz ranks by exposure rather than by severity label alone.

That makes it a platform decision, not a tool swap. If Wiz already watches your cloud, the code module is a logical extension. If not, evaluate the whole platform price, not the module.

What we like
  • Code findings land on the same graph as Wiz cloud security data, so a vulnerable library in a public facing workload ranks above the same library in an isolated one, remediation traces an issue from cloud resource back to the code and owner who can fix it, strong fit for organisations already running Wiz for cloud security, covers SAST, SCA, secrets and IaC in the pipeline
Watch out for
  • Quote only pricing, and the value case assumes the wider Wiz platform, organisations without Wiz are buying a graph they do not populate, younger code scanning product than the dedicated SAST vendors, enterprise sales cycle applies
#7

Checkmarx One

Best for: Enterprise AppSec programmes
Visit checkmarx.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planNo

Checkmarx One is the committee platform: the one a large regulated organisation buys when AppSec is a programme with auditors, policies and hundreds of applications. Its breadth is the argument, SAST at the centre and every other test around it.

The trade offs are enterprise shaped too: sales led pricing, scans that need scheduling rather than pull request speed, and a tuning effort to keep noise down. Organisations that invest in the programme get the value; teams wanting a quick scanner should look up the list.

What we like
  • One platform for SAST, SCA, DAST, API security, container and IaC scanning, with SAST as the anchor engine, scans without compiling, across 40 plus languages in current comparisons, strong enterprise policy, reporting and audit features, FedRAMP ready positioning for regulated buyers
Watch out for
  • Quote only, with comparison estimates putting platforms in the tens of thousands per year and up, reported scan times of 25 to 45 minutes frustrate tight CI loops, false positive rates in reviews run high enough to need tuning staff, no free tier
#8

Veracode

Best for: Compliance grade scanning incl. binaries
Visit veracode.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planNo

Veracode is the compliance heavyweight. Its binary analysis approach, long analyst track record and audit ready reporting make it the default in finance and healthcare programmes where a scanner must satisfy regulators as well as developers.

Price it with your real application count in hand. Per application licensing, harmless with ten applications, becomes the budget story at two hundred microservices, and comparisons put enterprise deployments well into six figures.

What we like
  • Long standing leader in application security testing with reporting auditors accept, can scan compiled binaries and bytecode, useful where source access is restricted or for third party software, full platform spans SAST, DAST, SCA and container security, among the few vendors holding ISO IEC 42001 certification per 2026 reporting
Watch out for
  • Quote only per application licensing
  • Comparisons estimate SAST from roughly 15,000 dollars per year with full platforms far higher, binary scanning means applications must build before they scan, and full scans can take hours, per application pricing punishes microservice estates, developer experience is rated behind Snyk and Semgrep

How we chose

We compared code security tools a cloud pipeline team can adopt in October 2026, spanning developer first scanners, platform native options and enterprise AppSec suites. Pricing uses vendor pages where published and current October 2026 comparison reporting elsewhere; reported figures are labelled, and quote only vendors say See website. We weighted CI integration, finding quality evidence from independent reviews, and whether pricing is public. We did not run scans or test codebases for this guide, and no vendor supplied results to us.

Securing a pipeline without slowing it to a crawl

Scan in layers. Fast checks, secrets and dependency scanning, belong in every pull request. Deep SAST belongs on merge or nightly, where a 30 minute scan does not block a developer. Teams that put the slowest scanner first in the pipeline teach developers to bypass it.

Count your pricing unit before you sign. Per contributor, per committer, per line of code and per application produce wildly different bills for the same estate. Every vendor here will run a count against your repositories during evaluation; ask for that number in writing.

Triage is the product. A scanner that reports 4,000 findings with no reachability or exposure context creates a backlog nobody clears. Judge trials by the twenty findings that matter, and by how fast a developer can understand and fix one.

Remember what scanning cannot do. These tools find known patterns of weakness. They do not find broken business logic, a misjudged permission model or a feature that should not exist. Pair scanning with review, threat modelling for sensitive systems, and penetration testing on a cycle. The scanner is necessary. It is not sufficient.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SAST and SCA?

SAST analyses your own source code for weaknesses such as injection flaws. SCA inventories your open source dependencies and flags known vulnerabilities and licence problems in them. Most platforms here bundle both, because a modern application is mostly other people's code.

How much do code security tools cost?

Published pricing clusters near 25 to 35 dollars per developer or contributor per month: Snyk Team at 25 dollars, GitHub Code Security at 30 dollars per committer, Semgrep reported around 30 to 35 dollars, SonarQube Cloud from about 34 dollars per month by lines of code. Enterprise platforms such as Checkmarx and Veracode are quote based and run to tens of thousands per year.

Which tools are free to start with?

Snyk and Aikido offer free tiers, Semgrep has a free community edition, and GitHub code scanning is free for public repositories. SonarQube offers a free self hosted Community Build. Free tiers limit test volumes or features, but they are enough to judge finding quality on your code.

Can scanning slow down our pipeline?

It can, if you let it. Secrets and dependency checks run in seconds to minutes. Deep enterprise SAST scans are reported at 25 to 45 minutes on large applications. Run fast checks on every pull request and deep scans on merge or nightly builds.

Does a clean scan mean our application is secure?

No. A clean scan means the tool found none of the patterns it knows, in the code it scanned. Business logic flaws, design mistakes and configuration problems in production sit outside that promise. Scanning is one layer of a security programme, not the programme.
