How we make this list: we compare pricing pages, product documentation and public user reviews. Rankite is independent; if a vendor ever pays for a featured spot, that listing is clearly labeled Partner.
Key takeaways
- Greenhouse and Lever lead on integration depth, with 450+ and 300+ pre-built connections respectively, plus mature APIs for custom work.
- Workable (270+ integrations) and Breezy HR pair broad marketplaces with flat, published pricing, so you know the cost before the sales call.
- Ashby publishes its starting price ($400 a month) and offers an open API with webhooks, a rare mix of transparency and technical depth.
- Budget picks Zoho Recruit and Freshteam both offer real free plans, though advanced connectors sit on higher tiers.
- Recruitee (now Tellent Recruitee) and SmartRecruiters skew toward custom-quoted enterprise deals, where integration help comes from services teams rather than self-serve setup.

The best ATS software for easy integration
#1
Workable
Best for: mid-size teams that want 270+ integrations without custom development
Visit workable.com
Starting price$299/month (Standard, 1-20 employees, billed annually)
Free planFree trial (15 days)
Workable wins the integration conversation for teams without developers to spare. Its marketplace covers 270+ tools across job boards, background checks, assessments, video interviewing, HRIS and payroll, and most connections are configured from an admin screen, not built by hand. Zoom, Checkr, Slack, Gmail and Outlook all connect natively, and Zapier covers the long tail.
Workable exposes a documented REST API with webhooks, and its 2026 platform push added MCP-native access for AI agents. Pricing is published and scales by employee headcount: Standard runs $299 a month and Premier $599 a month for companies with 1 to 20 employees. The catch is the add-on menu: texting, video interviews and assessments are separate line items on Standard, so a fully connected setup costs more than the headline price.
What we like- 270+ native integrations
- Published pricing
- REST API with webhooks
Watch out for- No free plan
- SSO only on higher tiers
- Premium tools cost extra
#2
Greenhouse
Best for: companies that need the largest integration ecosystem in the category
Visit greenhouse.com
Starting priceSee website (quoted by company size)
Free planNo
If your stack is complicated, Greenhouse is the safest integration bet in the industry. Its marketplace lists 450+ pre-built integrations, the most of any ATS here, covering everything from sourcing tools to HRIS to business intelligence connectors. The Harvest API exports candidates, jobs, scorecards, offers and EEO data in clean JSON, which is why so many third-party tools build their Greenhouse connector first.
That depth comes with enterprise buying friction. Greenhouse publishes no prices; every deal is quoted by company size, with buyer-reported Core plans starting around $6,000 a year for small teams and climbing past $70,000 for enterprises. Contracts are annual and implementation is quoted separately. The structured-hiring methodology is also opinionated: teams that love scorecards and interview kits thrive, while teams that want a loose process will fight the system.
What we like- 450+ integrations, the deepest marketplace
- Mature Harvest API
- Structured data model
Watch out for- No published pricing
- Annual contracts only
- Implementation fees on top
#3
Lever
Best for: teams that want ATS and recruiting CRM in one integrated platform
Visit lever.co
Starting priceSee website (quoted by company size)
Free planNo
Lever takes a different approach to the integration problem: it absorbs it. By combining applicant tracking with a real candidate relationship management layer, Lever removes the need to integrate a separate CRM for nurture campaigns and talent pools. The 300+ app marketplace covers HRIS, background check, scheduling and communication tools, and the API supports custom builds.
Buyer-reported pricing puts LeverTRM around $3,500 to $6,000 a year for small teams, with Nurture and advanced analytics as paid add-ons. One thing to know: Lever sits under Employ Inc., the private equity-backed parent that also owns Jobvite and JazzHR, and analysts have noted the positioning between the three brands is murky. Worth asking about roadmap during a multi-year negotiation.
What we like- ATS plus CRM reduces integration needs
- 300+ marketplace apps
- Strong automation
Watch out for- Custom quotes only
- Owned by Employ Inc. alongside Jobvite and JazzHR
- Add-ons for analytics
#4
Breezy HR
Best for: small businesses that want flat pricing and painless setup
Visit breezy.hr
Starting priceFree (Bootstrap); Startup $157/month billed annually
Free planYes
Breezy HR is the integration-friendly pick for teams without IT support. Every plan, including the free Bootstrap tier, includes unlimited users, so hiring managers and interviewers get logins without per-seat math. The paid tiers connect to Slack, Google Calendar, Zoom, background check vendors and assessment tools from a simple integrations screen, and setup takes an afternoon.
Pricing is refreshingly flat: Startup is $157 a month billed annually with unlimited positions, Growth is $273 and Business is $439. The Bootstrap free plan covers one active job with distribution to 50+ job boards. The limitation for integration-heavy buyers is that API access lives only on the custom-quoted Pro tier, and HRIS integrations require the Business plan.
What we like- Unlimited users on every plan
- Genuine free tier
- 14-day full-feature trial
Watch out for- API access gated to custom Pro tier
- Advanced HRIS integrations need Business plan
#5
Ashby
Best for: startups that want analytics-grade data and an open API
Visit ashbyhq.com
Starting price$400/month (All-in-One Foundations, up to 100 employees)
Free planNo
Ashby is the rare ATS that is both transparently priced and technically deep. Foundations costs $400 a month for companies up to 100 employees, published on the pricing page, with a 10 percent annual discount. The API and webhook support is first-class, and the custom reporting engine treats every field as queryable, which makes BI integrations straightforward.
That mix makes Ashby the default pick for data-driven startups that outgrow Breezy but cannot stomach Greenhouse quotes. The trade-offs are narrow: there is no free plan or self-serve trial (evaluation runs through sales), companies above 100 employees move to custom-quoted Plus and Enterprise tiers, and the 2026 shift toward tiered access pricing means growing teams should model access costs, not just the base fee.
What we like- Published pricing
- Powerful API and webhooks
- Custom reporting on everything
Watch out for- No free plan
- Larger companies move to custom quotes
- Reporting depth assumes data comfort
#6
Recruitee
Best for: mid-market teams that want deeply customizable hiring workflows
Visit recruitee.com
Starting priceSee website (quoted by plan and company size)
Free planFree trial
Recruitee, now branded Tellent Recruitee, targets growth-stage and mid-market companies with highly customizable pipelines, workflows and templates. The Tellent Marketplace connects 200+ tools, and the API plus webhooks cover custom setups. Unlimited users on every plan keeps collaboration cheap.
The buying experience is the friction point. Recruitee no longer publishes list prices; quotes depend on plan, headcount and billing period, and every plan carries a one-year minimum commitment. Third-party research puts entry pricing anywhere from roughly $200 to $400 a month depending on configuration. The GDPR-first European engineering is a genuine plus for companies with EU hiring.
What we like- 200+ integrations via Tellent Marketplace
- Unlimited users on all plans
- Native WhatsApp integration
Watch out for- No published pricing
- One-year minimum commitment on all plans
- Pricing varies by headcount
#7
Freshteam
Best for: small companies that want ATS plus core HR in one cheap system
Visit freshteam.com
Starting priceFree (up to 50 employees); Growth $1/employee/month plus platform fee
Free planYes
Freshteam is Freshworks' HR suite with a capable ATS inside, and its pricing is the friendliest here for small companies. The free plan covers up to 50 employees with basic applicant tracking, onboarding and time off. Paid plans bill per employee rather than per recruiter: Growth is $1 per employee per month plus a platform fee, which keeps a 25-person company under $100 a month total.
For integrations, Freshteam connects with Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Calendly, Google Calendar and major job boards, plus single sign-on across the Freshworks ecosystem for teams already on those tools. The catalog is thinner than Greenhouse's or Workable's, and power users will notice lighter automation and fewer assessment vendor options.
What we like- Free plan covers 50 employees
- Per-employee pricing stays cheap
- Freshworks ecosystem SSO
Watch out for- Integration catalog is thinner than pure-play ATS tools
- Advanced features need higher tiers
#8
JazzHR
Best for: small businesses that want flat-fee pricing with no per-seat math
Visit jazzhr.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planFree trial
JazzHR keeps the buying math simple: flat monthly fees with unlimited users, so every hiring manager gets a login without changing the bill. The marketplace lists 200+ providers across background checks, assessments, HRIS, payroll and sourcing tools like LinkedIn Recruiter. Setup is fast, and reviewers consistently praise the straightforward interface.
The pricing structure has rough edges. The entry Hero tier caps you at 3 active jobs, and several features buyers expect, candidate texting, eSignatures and advanced reporting, are paid add-ons below the Pro tier. Published pricing has shifted during 2026, so verify the current tiers on JazzHR's own pricing page before budgeting.
What we like- Flat monthly fees
- Unlimited users on every plan
- 200+ marketplace providers
Watch out for- Job caps push growing teams up tiers fast
- Texting, eSignature and reporting are add-ons
#9
Zoho Recruit
Best for: budget-conscious teams already using Zoho products
Visit zoho.com
Starting price$25/recruiter/month (Corporate Standard, billed annually)
Free planYes (Forever Free, 1 active job)
Zoho Recruit is the value play for teams inside the Zoho universe. It ships with 200+ native integrations, Google Meet, Teams, Slack, WhatsApp Business, LinkedIn, TestGorilla and the full Zoho suite, and the automation engine (Blueprints, workflows, custom functions) beats anything else near this price. The Corporate edition's Standard plan runs $25 per recruiter per month billed annually, and a Forever Free plan covers one active job.
The pricing model has a quirk that surprises buyers: Zoho meters active jobs per recruiter license, not just seats. Standard allows 10 active jobs per license, so outgrowing the cap means buying another license even without another recruiter. Staffing agencies get a separate edition with much higher job allowances at similar per-user prices.
What we like- Real free plan
- 200+ native integrations
- Two editions (corporate and staffing agency)
Watch out for- Per-recruiter pricing scales badly
- Active-job caps per license
- Setup can feel complex
Starting price$14,995/year (Essential)
Free planNo
SmartRecruiters is the enterprise-grade option that still publishes a starting number: Essential begins at $14,995 a year and covers ATS, CRM, onboarding, SMS, job distribution and scheduling. Above that, Professional, High Volume and Complete are custom-quoted, adding AI hiring agents, conversational screening and advanced analytics. The integration story is enterprise-shaped: HRIS connectors, assessment vendors and a sandbox for testing configuration changes.
Two things to weigh in 2026: SAP closed its acquisition in September 2025, with roadmap certainty for non-SAP shops still settling, and pricing is headcount-based, so negotiate the growth curve, not just year one. This is the right pick when hiring is a strategic function; it is overkill for a team filling five roles a year.
What we like- One published starting price
- Strong high-volume and enterprise tooling
- AI matching and screening
Watch out for- Everything above Essential is custom-quoted
- SAP acquisition adds roadmap questions
- No free tier
What makes an ATS easy to integrate
Count the connectors you will actually use
Marketplace size is a starting point, not an answer. Greenhouse lists 450+ integrations and Workable 270+, but what matters is whether your specific HRIS, background check vendor, assessment provider and calendar system are on the list natively. Native connectors sync bidirectionally and stay maintained by the vendor. Zapier-based connections work for one-way triggers but break more often and add another subscription. Before shortlisting, write down your five must-have connections and check each one by name.
Check the API before you need it
Every vendor claims an API. The difference is in the details: published documentation, webhook support for real-time events, a sandbox for testing, and rate limits that fit your volume. Ashby and Greenhouse score well here; budget tools sometimes offer APIs only on top tiers (Breezy gates API access to its custom Pro plan). If your roadmap includes custom reporting or two-way sync with an internal system, confirm API access on the exact tier you plan to buy.
Watch the pricing model underneath the integrations
Per-seat pricing punishes collaboration: every hiring manager with a login raises the bill. Flat-fee tools (Breezy, JazzHR, Recruitee) and per-employee models (Freshteam) keep integration-adjacent users cheap. Also check where integration features are gated. HRIS sync on Breezy requires the Business tier; SSO on Workable requires Premier. The connector you need may live one tier above the price you budgeted.
Integration mistakes that cost teams months
The most expensive mistake is buying before mapping the data flow. Teams pick an ATS for its pipeline UI, then discover the HRIS sync is one-way, offer letters do not carry custom fields, or background check statuses never write back to the candidate record. Fixing that after contracts are signed means custom middleware or manual work that lasts for years.
The second mistake is ignoring the free trial window. Breezy gives 14 days, Workable 15, Zoho 15: enough to connect your real calendar, Slack and one job board, then run a test candidate end to end. If a vendor's trial does not let you test integrations, treat that as information.
The third is underestimating ownership changes. Lever, JazzHR and SmartRecruiters all changed corporate hands in the last few years. Acquisitions redirect roadmaps. Ask directly what the integration roadmap looks like for the next 12 months, and get commitments that matter into the contract.
How we chose
We scored each ATS on three integration-specific criteria: the size and quality of the pre-built integration marketplace, the completeness of the public API (documentation, webhooks, sandbox access), and how much of the connecting work a non-technical admin can do without developers. Pricing facts come from vendor pages and current third-party research, cross-checked where sources disagreed.
We did not test-drive implementations or run integration builds. What we verified is what a buyer can verify before signing: published connector lists, API documentation, pricing pages and plan limits. We excluded HR suites where the ATS is a minor module.
Frequently asked questions
What is the easiest ATS to integrate with an HRIS?
Greenhouse and Workable have the broadest pre-built HRIS connectors, covering BambooHR, Namely, Rippling, ADP and others with bidirectional sync. Breezy HR includes HRIS integrations on its Business tier, and Freshteam bundles HRIS natively since it is an HR suite first. Confirm your specific HRIS is supported natively rather than through a middleware connector.
Do I need the API, or are native integrations enough?
For most small and mid-size teams, native integrations are enough. The API matters when you need custom reporting in your BI tool or two-way sync with an internal system. If either is on your roadmap within a year, buy a tier that includes API access now; upgrading mid-contract to add it is an avoidable negotiation.
Why do some ATS vendors hide their pricing?
Enterprise ATS pricing depends on headcount, modules and contract length, which is why Greenhouse, Lever and SmartRecruiters quote rather than publish (SmartRecruiters publishes only its $14,995 entry point). The trade-off is negotiating power: discounts of 5 to 25 percent are commonly reported.
Can I switch ATS later without losing data?
You can export core data, candidates, applications, jobs and notes, from any modern ATS, but pipeline configurations, automation rules, interview kits and historical analytics rarely transfer cleanly. Plan on rebuilding workflows in the new system and running both in parallel for 4 to 8 weeks. Every connector you build is a second migration later.
Is a free ATS enough for a small business?
For very early hiring, yes. Breezy's Bootstrap plan handles one open role with 50+ job board distribution, Zoho Recruit's free plan covers a single active job, and Freshteam's free tier supports up to 50 employees. You will outgrow free plans when you hire for multiple roles at once or need interview scorecards and HRIS sync. The paid tiers here start around $25 to $157 a month.
