How we make this list: we compare pricing pages, product documentation and public user reviews. Rankite is independent; if a vendor ever pays for a featured spot, that listing is clearly labeled Partner.
Key takeaways
- Intercom and Zendesk remain the defaults for AI-first support, with vendor-reported resolution rates of 76% and up to 80% automation respectively.
- HubSpot Service Hub and Klaviyo are the best picks when you want engagement data to live inside the CRM you already use.
- Braze and Iterable are the campaign-side leaders for consumer brands, but both are quote-only and enterprise-priced.
- Tidio is the clearest low-friction entry: free forever, with an AI agent that pays its way through cart recovery and product recommendations.
- Ada is the strongest pure-play enterprise AI option, with compliance credentials the others cannot match.

The 10 Best AI-Powered Customer Engagement Software
#1
Intercom
Best for: Product-led and mid-market SaaS teams that want AI agents and human staff working from one shared inbox
Visit intercom.com
Starting priceFrom $29 per seat/month, plus $0.99 per AI resolution by Fin
Free planNo (14-day free trial, no credit card required)
Intercom's headline product is now the pairing of its AI-powered helpdesk with Fin, its natively integrated AI agent, which the company reports resolves 76% of conversations on average across 12,000+ customers. The two share one inbox, one customer record, and one knowledge base, so every human conversation teaches Fin something new.
What we like- Fin's resolution rate leads the vendor-reported pack
- Omnichannel inbox with Copilot for agents
- Over 30,000 brands including Anthropic, Clay, and Lightspeed
- Transparent seat-plus-outcome pricing on its own page
Watch out for- Seat and per-resolution billing stack quickly at volume
- No free tier beyond the trial
- Salesforce reportedly agreed to acquire the company in 2026 (about $3.6B), which clouds the roadmap
#2
Zendesk
Best for: Service organizations that want AI-first service across support, contact centers, and employee service
Visit zendesk.com
Starting priceSuite Team from $55 per agent/month (billed annually)
Free planNo (14-day free trial)
Zendesk pitches itself as the AI-powered service platform, claiming its AI agents automate up to 80% of interactions and improve with every resolution, proven across 4.8 billion delivered resolutions. It was named a Leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for the CRM Customer Engagement Center, and its Forethought acquisition brings standalone AI agents that run on non-Zendesk stacks too.
What we like- Strongest vendor-reported outcome data (up to 80% automation)
- AI agents that deploy standalone on other platforms
- Broad channel and app coverage
- Employee service and contact-center extensions under one roof
Watch out for- No free tier
- Copilot is a $50 per agent/month add-on and AI resolutions are metered at about $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go
- Enterprise pricing gets complex quickly
#3
HubSpot Service Hub
Best for: Companies already on HubSpot's CRM that want service, sales, and marketing data in one connected platform
Visit hubspot.com
Starting priceFrom $10 per seat/month (Starter, current new-customer promo)
Free planYes (free tools tier with ticketing, contact management, and team email)
Service Hub is the natural pick when your CRM already holds every interaction. Its Customer Agent resolves inquiries across email and live chat around the clock, and the health-score workspace helps teams spot retention risk before it becomes churn. The vendor's own page currently shows Starter at $10 per seat (discounted from $20 for new customers), Professional at $100, and Enterprise at $150.
What we like- Genuine free tier to start on
- Customer Agent included from Professional up
- Unified Smart CRM removes data-sync work
- 57% ticket close-rate lift reported in vendor case data
Watch out for- AI usage is credit-metered (about $0.50 per resolution)
- Professional requires a $1,500 onboarding fee
- The Starter discount is a limited new-customer offer, not the list price
#4
Braze
Best for: Consumer brands running data-driven campaigns across email, SMS, push, WhatsApp, and in-app
Visit braze.com
Starting priceSee website (quote-based; editions Go, Select, Pro, and Enterprise)
Free planNo (free trial available)
Braze positions itself as the AI engagement platform built for outcomes rather than output: the Braze Data Platform unifies customer signals in real time, and BrazeAI helps marketers build campaigns, create content, and optimize performance. It was named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Multichannel Marketing Hubs, placing highest on Ability to Execute.
What we like- Top analyst placement for execution
- BrazeAI built for marketers rather than engineers
- Real-time profiles across every major channel
- Heavyweight customer roster (Canva, Pizza Hut, The Guardian)
Watch out for- No public pricing, quote-only
- Third-party estimates suggest enterprise budgets from around $30k to $60k a year
- Short trial relative to the implementation effort
#5
Iterable
Best for: Marketing teams that want real-time AI decisioning and agentic workflows across every channel
Visit iterable.com
Starting priceSee website (custom annual contracts; buyer reports suggest a median near $32,000/year)
Free planNo
Iterable's answer to AI engagement is Nova, its intelligence layer: Nova Agents build and optimize audiences, journeys, and campaigns, while Nova Decisioning continuously evaluates behavioral signals to pick the next best action. The vendor cites cases of 300% revenue lift and 77% increases in trading volume, backed by infrastructure built for trillions of interactions.
What we like- Nova's agent-driven workflow automation is among the most advanced in the category
- Cross-channel orchestration from a single configuration
- Strong real-time data story
Watch out for- Pricing is fully sales-gated with no published rate card
- Buyer-reported contracts start around $30,000 a year
- Onboarding is heavier than single-helpdesk tools
#6
Klaviyo
Best for: E-commerce brands that want marketing, analytics, and customer service inside one B2C CRM
Visit klaviyo.com
Starting priceEmail from $20/month (free plan available)
Free planYes (free plan with core features)
Klaviyo has repositioned itself as the autonomous B2C CRM: its Composer agent audits flows and builds on-brand campaigns from a prompt, while Customer Agent claims to resolve 65% of support questions autonomously. With 205,000+ brands across 100 countries and 9 billion customer profiles, it is the SMB-to-enterprise bridge of the category.
What we like- Genuine free tier and low entry price
- Customer Agent with pre-trained brand knowledge
- 350+ native integrations and full developer tooling
- SOC 2 Type II with EU and US data residency
Watch out for- Costs scale with contacts and channel usage
- Add-ons like Composer and Customer Hub are priced separately
- Enterprise capabilities require custom pricing
#7
Salesforce (Agentforce Service)
Best for: Salesforce-native enterprises that want AI agents working on live CRM data inside the same system as their teams
Visit salesforce.com
Starting priceFrom $25 per user/month (Starter Suite); Agentforce Service Core from $195/user/month
Free planNo (free trial available)
Salesforce has gone all-in on agentic service: its new Agentforce Service editions launched in September 2026 at Core ($195), Advanced ($395), and Max ($550) per user per month, with Flex Credits and a $2-per-resolution Help Agent for usage-based work. Agents operate inside the CRM your staff already uses, which removes the integration tax that sinks many AI projects.
What we like- Agents grounded in live CRM data with governance controls
- Pandora and Williams-Sonoma customer stories show real consumer-brand traction
- Flex Credits allow mixed licensing and usage models
Watch out for- The new edition ladder is expensive
- Consumption-based Flex pricing is hard to forecast
- No free tier and the product assumes a Salesforce stack
#8
Freshdesk
Best for: SMB and mid-market support teams that want a guided path from their first AI agent to AI across the service org
Visit freshworks.com
Starting priceFrom $19 per agent/month (Growth, billed annually)
Free planYes (free program for up to 2 agents for 6 months)
Freshdesk's pitch is AI adoption you can walk into gradually: ready-to-use AI, people, and workflows together from day one. Freddy AI Agent comes with 500 free sessions before billing $49 per 100 sessions, and Freddy Copilot assists agents in real time for $29 per agent per month on Pro and Enterprise plans. It serves over 50,000 businesses and was recognized as a Leader in G2's Spring 2026 Mid-Market Grid.
What we like- Low entry price with real AI included
- Guided adoption path suits AI beginners
- Strong mid-market G2 recognition
- Channels from WhatsApp to Instagram in one inbox
Watch out for- Copilot is restricted to Pro and Enterprise plans
- The free program expires after six months
- Enterprise AI governance is lighter than Zendesk's
#9
Ada
Best for: Enterprises with high contact volumes that need branded AI agents across chat, voice, email, and in-app
Visit ada.cx
Starting priceSee website (quote-based; buyer reports put contracts from about $30,000/year)
Free planNo
Ada is the pure-play AI service automation vendor: its ACX Platform orchestrates multiple LLMs to understand, act, and resolve complex inquiries, and it deploys across every channel and language while preserving customer identity and context. The company reports 550+ AI agents deployed for 350+ customers, powering over 6.4 billion interactions.
What we like- Deepest enterprise credentials in the pure-play set (HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR, PCI DSS, zero data retention with LLM providers)
- Multi-LLM orchestration
- Strong automated-resolution case data
Watch out for- No public pricing and no self-serve trial
- Buyer-reported median contract value around $70,000 a year
- Onboarding takes weeks rather than days
#10
Tidio
Best for: Small businesses and e-commerce stores that want a working AI agent without writing code
Visit tidio.com
Starting priceFrom $29/month (free plan forever)
Free planYes (free plan forever; 50 billable conversations a month)
Tidio's Lyro AI Agent trains on your website and help center in about ten minutes and, per the vendor, averages a 75% resolution rate across customers.
What we like- Real free tier with 50 Lyro AI conversations to test
- Lyro recommends products, recovers carts, and handles order updates
- Multi-channel inbox (chat, email, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp)
- Revenue attribution per conversation
Watch out for- Lyro is billed separately (from $39/month for 50 AI conversations)
- The free Lyro allowance is one-time, not monthly
- Advanced customization sits behind paid tiers
How we chose
We did not install and benchmark these platforms hands-on for this guide. Instead we compared the current pricing pages, read each vendor's feature documentation, and looked for patterns in public reviews on G2, Capterra, and Reddit, with special attention to how AI resolution rates are measured and what the metered AI usage actually costs. We favored platforms that publish real pricing over quote-only vendors where possible, and we weighted fit for small and mid-size businesses: clear free or trial entry points, honest limits on lower plans, and integrations with the CRMs and helpdesks teams already use.
What to check before you buy
Match the platform to your scale. Tidio and Klaviyo's free tiers are honest starting points for small teams; Zendesk, Salesforce, and Ada assume enterprise budgets and implementation teams.
Count the AI meter alongside the seat. Intercom charges per seat plus per AI resolution, HubSpot and Zendesk meter AI usage separately, and Braze and Iterable price on contracts. Model your expected resolution volume before signing.
Watch for roadmap risk. Intercom is reportedly being acquired by Salesforce, and this list's acquisition section matters: Drift, the classic conversational marketing tool, was sunset after its Salesloft acquisition, so favor vendors with clear independent roadmaps for long-term commitments.
Verify compliance. Ada's HIPAA and PCI credentials matter for healthcare and payments; Tidio and Klaviyo carry SOC 2 and GDPR, which covers most SaaS and e-commerce use.
Frequently asked questions
Which AI customer engagement software is best for small businesses?
Tidio is the easiest starting point: it has a free-forever plan, an AI agent that sets up in minutes, and paid plans from $29/month. Klaviyo's free tier is also strong if you run an e-commerce store.
What is the average cost of AI customer engagement software?
It ranges widely. Entry tools like Tidio start around $29/month, mid-market options like Intercom and Zendesk run $29 to $115 per seat plus AI usage, and enterprise platforms like Ada and Iterable start around $30,000 a year on custom contracts.
Do these tools replace human support agents?
No. Even the best performers (Intercom's Fin at 76%, Tidio's Lyro at 75%, Zendesk's up-to-80% automation) are vendor-reported figures for AI-resolved conversations, and all ten tools keep humans in the loop for complex or sensitive cases.
Which platform has the best free plan?
HubSpot Service Hub's free tools tier and Tidio's free-forever plan are the most useful without payment. Klaviyo's free plan is also practical for small stores.
What happened to Drift?
Drift was acquired by Salesloft in 2024 and has since been folded into that platform, with its standalone product winding down. Salesforce also acquired Qualified in 2026, folding Piper into Agentforce. The category is consolidating, which makes vendor independence worth checking.
