Best Conversation Intelligence Software in 2026: 9 Tools Compared

Key takeaways

  • Gong is the enterprise standard for deal intelligence; Chorus (ZoomInfo), Salesloft and Clari Copilot compete on platform bundling rather than standalone depth.
  • Fireflies.ai (Pro $10/seat/month) and Avoma (Startup $19/seat/month) bring real conversation intelligence to SMB budgets with published prices.
  • Jiminny, Substrata and Modjo serve coaching-led and European teams; all three are quote-only with sales-led buying.
  • Watch the add-on math: Avoma's headline $19 becomes $48/seat with the CI add-on, and Gong's platform fee sits on top of per-user pricing.

The best conversation intelligence software

Your best rep just lost a deal and nobody knows why. The call happened, the notes say "good conversation," and the real reasons, the unhandled objection at minute 22, the competitor mention nobody flagged, evaporated with the Zoom window. Conversation intelligence records sales calls, transcribes them, and analyzes what actually happened: talk ratios, objections, competitor mentions, deal risks. These nine tools cover the real market, from free note-takers to enterprise revenue platforms.

#1

Gong

Best for: Mid-market and enterprise sales teams (20+ reps)
Visit gong.io
Starting priceSee website
Free planSee website
Gong homepage

Gong defined the category: record every call, transcribe it, and find the patterns that predict wins, which talk tracks work, which stakeholder patterns signal risk, how engagement correlates with close rates. Forecasting ties to real conversation data rather than rep optimism. For revenue leaders managing 20-plus reps, that visibility is transformative.

The total cost of ownership is the conversation nobody has upfront: buyer reports put Foundations around $1,400-$1,600 per user per year plus a $5,000-plus annual platform fee, with Engage and Forecast modules extra and multi-year contracts standard. Implementation runs 3-6 months with ongoing admin. And Gong analyzes after the call; there is no live battlecard during it. Negotiate renewal caps and exit terms before signing, not at renewal.

What we like
  • Deepest deal intelligence: pattern recognition across thousands of calls with deal risk scoring
  • Coaching scorecards built on huge deployment data sets
  • Strong Salesforce and HubSpot integrations
Watch out for
  • Opaque enterprise pricing with mandatory platform fee
  • 3-6 month implementations
  • Post-call analysis only, no live coaching
#2

Chorus by ZoomInfo

Best for: Sales teams already running on ZoomInfo
Visit zoominfo.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planSee website
Chorus by ZoomInfo homepage

Chorus makes sense in exactly one situation: your team already lives on ZoomInfo. Calls get analyzed against ZoomInfo's account and contact intelligence in the same workflow, so conversation insights sit next to the data that sourced the prospect. Transcription is accurate, deal intelligence covers risk scoring and competitor mentions, and recording is unlimited on the base package.

Outside that ecosystem it is a poor fit: you cannot really buy Chorus standalone, third-party estimates put the bundled cost around $8,000/year base including 3 seats, and coaching depth trails Gong. Annual contracts with rigid terms are the norm; push for seat-reduction flexibility at renewal. It fits the ZoomInfo shop consolidating vendors. Everyone else should compare Gong and the SMB tools on their merits.

What we like
  • Conversation insights wired into ZoomInfo's contact and account data
  • Accurate transcription with deal intelligence and competitor tracking
  • Unlimited recording on the base package per third-party breakdowns
Watch out for
  • Effectively requires the ZoomInfo ecosystem
  • Less coaching depth than Gong
  • Rigid contract terms reported
#3

Salesloft

Best for: Outbound sales teams wanting engagement and call analytics in one platform
Visit salesloft.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planSee website
Salesloft homepage

Salesloft's argument is workflow unity: the rep lives in cadences all day, and the Conversations module brings call recording, transcription and coaching into that same dashboard. A recorded call gets scored and surfaced where the rep already works, instead of in a separate analytics tool nobody opens. For outbound teams, that adoption advantage is real.

The pricing is modular in the expensive way: third-party procurement data puts typical deals at $125-$165 per user per month before add-ons, with the dialer and Conversations priced separately on lower tiers, plus $5,000-$15,000 onboarding fees. Note the December 2025 Clari merger is reshaping packaging; get the roadmap in writing. Annual contracts with reported 5-8 percent auto-renewal increases: cap them now.

What we like
  • Cadences, email, dialing and conversation intelligence in one rep workflow
  • Call recordings scored inside the same dashboard as sequences
  • Deep native Salesforce integration
Watch out for
  • Quote-only enterprise pricing
  • Dialer and CI are paid add-ons, so the first quote is rarely final
  • CI shallower than purpose-built tools
#4

Fireflies.ai

Best for: Small sales teams and founders needing recording and summaries without enterprise budget
Visit fireflies.ai
Starting price$10/seat/month (Pro, billed annually; $18 billed monthly)
Free planYes (Free: unlimited transcription, 800 minutes storage, no card required)
Fireflies.ai homepage

Fireflies is the note-taker that grew up: the free tier offers unlimited transcription with 800 minutes of team storage and no credit card, which is enough for a founder to never take meeting notes again. Pro at $10/seat/month annually covers 8,000 minutes of storage per seat with unlimited AI summaries. The bot joins every major meeting platform automatically.

It is a note-taker first and CI second: deal intelligence, forecasting and coaching depth do not touch Gong. AI features draw from a pooled credit balance that does not auto-replenish, so heavy AskFred users should budget extra. Setup is self-serve in minutes via calendar integration, billing is monthly or annual, cancel anytime. It fits the team that needs transcripts and summaries today and might need CI later.

What we like
  • Genuinely useful free tier and the cheapest paid entry in the category
  • Auto-joins Zoom, Meet, Teams and Webex with 100+ language support
  • Business tier adds team analytics at $19/seat
Watch out for
  • AI credits govern summaries with a small one-time pool
  • Shallower deal intelligence than Gong or Chorus
#5

Avoma

Best for: SMB and mid-market sales teams wanting Gong-style coaching with transparent pricing
Visit avoma.com
Starting price$19/seat/month (Startup, billed annually; conversation intelligence add-on +$29/seat/month)
Free planFree trial (14 days); viewer seats free
Avoma homepage

Avoma is the transparent Gong alternative: published prices, cart-style checkout, and seat fairness, only recorders consume licenses while managers watch free. Modules assign per user, so the CI add-on goes just to reps who need scoring and trackers. The all-in-one covers recording, scheduling, intelligence, revenue analytics and lead routing.

Do the add-on math before comparing: Startup $19 plus the $29 CI add-on is $48/seat/month annually, and a fully loaded AE seat with both intelligence add-ons runs about $77/month. That is still a fraction of Gong, but it is four times the headline. Setup is self-serve, billing monthly or annual, with CRM writeback on all plans. It fits the SMB that wants real coaching analytics without a quote process.

What we like
  • Published pricing with per-recorder-seat licensing (managers who only watch pay nothing)
  • CI add-on bought only for reps who need it
  • Meeting recording, scheduling, CI and revenue intelligence in one platform
Watch out for
  • Headline $19 misleads CI buyers: real conversation intelligence costs $48/seat/month on Startup
  • Less enterprise analytics depth than Gong
#6

Clari Copilot

Best for: Revenue teams already on Clari for forecasting
Visit clari.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planSee website
Clari Copilot homepage

Clari Copilot, formerly Wingman, does what Gong does not: coach during the call. Live transcription with battlecards and monologue alerts gives reps objection handling while the prospect is still talking, not in a post-mortem. The conversation data feeds directly into Clari's forecasting and pipeline inspection, which is the point for RevOps-led organizations running their forecast on Clari.

It is a module, not a standalone product: value drops sharply without the broader Clari platform. The December 2025 Salesloft merger creates roadmap uncertainty since Salesloft Conversations is now the same vendor; get the product direction in writing. Third-party directories list tiers around $720-$1,320 per user per year. It fits the Clari shop. Everyone else is buying into a platform for one feature.

What we like
  • Real-time coaching: live transcription, battlecards and monologue alerts during calls
  • Conversation data feeds Clari's forecasting and pipeline inspection
  • RevGPT summaries via Slack
Watch out for
  • Limited value outside the Clari platform
  • Roadmap uncertainty after the Clari-Salesloft merger
#7

Jiminny

Best for: Coaching-led sales teams wanting structured rep development
Visit jiminny.com
Starting priceSee website
Free planSee website
Jiminny homepage

Jiminny is built for managers who coach: scorecards customized to your sales methodology, playlists of real calls for training, and libraries of best-practice moments. Insight seats let non-recording team members review calls without paying full recording-seat prices, and the Sidekick extension handles CRM activity logging automatically.

Everything goes through sales with annual commitments and a reported one-time setup fee; third-party estimates put recording seats near Gong-lite pricing. The bot joins calls to record, and the integration ecosystem is narrower than the US incumbents. It fits the team where coaching is the operating system. Price the seat mix (recording vs. insight vs. listener) carefully in the quote.

What we like
  • Coaching-first design: customizable scorecards, call playlists and best-practice libraries
  • Insight seats for non-recording reviewers at lower cost
  • Sidekick Chrome extension automates CRM logging
Watch out for
  • Quote-based seats with annual minimums
  • No self-serve path for small teams
#8

Substrata

Best for: Founders, AEs and dealmakers wanting behavioral signal analysis
Visit substrata.me
Starting priceSee website
Free planSee website
Substrata homepage

Substrata reads the subtext: it analyzes how prospects speak and write, tone, hesitation, authority signals, buying-zone positioning, to tell you where the deal really stands. It works across email and calls through a Chrome/Edge extension and Outlook integration, deploying in minutes rather than quarters. For a founder running a complex enterprise deal, that behavioral read can be worth more than a transcript.

It complements a CRM and a recorder; it does not replace a conversation intelligence platform. Pricing is opaque (G2's vendor listing cites Professional from $50/user/month, unconfirmed), the community is small, and scale is unproven versus Gong. It fits the dealmaker who wants an edge on live deals. Teams needing coaching infrastructure should look elsewhere.

What we like
  • Analyzes verbal and non-verbal cues: tone, pauses, power dynamics
  • Works across email and calls via browser extension and Outlook
  • Lightweight deployment with no platform rollout
Watch out for
  • Niche tool with thinner reviews and community
  • A signal layer, not a full coaching or forecasting platform
#9

Modjo

Best for: European and GDPR-conscious sales teams
Visit modjo.ai
Starting priceSee website
Free planSee website
Modjo homepage

Modjo is the European CI choice: France-hosted data with GDPR positioning that matters for EU-facing teams, plus straightforward manager-led coaching with call scoring and topic analytics. Onboarding is included in the subscription rather than billed separately, and the workflow covers the coaching basics well.

The buying process is slow for SMBs: demo required, multi-week onboarding, annual contracts, and a team threshold around three reps. Third-party comparisons put it near €99 per user per month. The recording bot is visible on calls, and dashboards are reportedly less customizable than newer competitors. It fits the European team that needs compliant CI. US teams get faster starts from Fireflies or Avoma.

What we like
  • EU data hosting in France with GDPR-friendly positioning
  • Manager-led coaching workflows with call scoring
  • Onboarding included in the subscription
Watch out for
  • Quote-only with annual commitment and no self-serve trial
  • Visible bot and less customizable dashboards

How we chose

We started with the searches buyers actually run: best conversation intelligence software and top conversation intelligence software. For each candidate we checked the vendor's own pricing page first, then cross-checked plan names and prices against independent reviews and practitioner discussion on G2, Capterra and Reddit, and compared recording, transcription quality, coaching depth, analytics and company-size fit. Where a price could not be verified on the vendor's page we wrote "See website" rather than repeating estimates. The shortlist mixes free note-takers with enterprise platforms because a founder and a 200-rep org are not buying the same thing.

The real-time vs. post-call decision

The category splits on timing. Post-call tools (Gong, Chorus, Fireflies, Avoma, Jiminny) record, transcribe and analyze after the meeting: great for coaching, forecasting and pattern analysis. Real-time tools (Clari Copilot, and battlecard features elsewhere) coach during the call: live transcription, objection battlecards, monologue alerts. Neither is strictly better; they solve different problems.

Buy post-call when the goal is coaching, deal review and forecasting accuracy. Buy real-time when reps need help in the moment, usually newer teams or complex products with heavy objection handling. Clari Copilot is the only tool here built real-time-first; Gong is post-call-only by design. Some teams run both: Gong for analytics, a real-time tool for live calls. Budget accordingly, because that is two subscriptions.

Frequently asked questions

How much does conversation intelligence software cost?

SMB tools publish prices: Fireflies Pro $10/seat/month, Avoma Startup $19/seat/month ($48 with the CI add-on). Enterprise is quote-only: buyer reports put Gong around $1,400-$1,600/user/year plus a $5,000+ platform fee, Chorus bundled near $8,000/year base, Salesloft $125-$165/user/month before add-ons. Clari Copilot, Jiminny, Substrata and Modjo are all quote-based.

What is the difference between Gong and Chorus?

Gong is the standalone category leader with the deepest analytics and the biggest deployment base; you buy it for conversation intelligence itself. Chorus is sold inside the ZoomInfo platform; you buy it when your team already runs on ZoomInfo data and wants one vendor. Gong leads on coaching depth; Chorus leads on data integration. Both are quote-only enterprise purchases.

Do we need consent to record sales calls?

Yes, and the rules vary by state and country: the US mixes one-party and two-party consent states, and the EU's GDPR adds its own requirements. All nine tools support consent workflows (announcements, opt-in), and several handle it automatically. Configure for the strictest jurisdiction you sell into, and get legal review before rolling out recording org-wide.

Can conversation intelligence replace call coaching?

No, it makes coaching better. The software finds the moments: the mishandled objection, the talk-ratio imbalance, the competitor mention. The manager still does the coaching. Teams that buy CI expecting it to coach reps automatically end up with expensive transcription. Buy it to give managers better material, not to replace them.

What is the difference between Fireflies and Gong?

Fireflies ($10/seat/month) records, transcribes and summarizes meetings: a note-taker with light analytics. Gong (roughly $1,500/user/year plus platform fee) analyzes conversations for deal risk, coaching and forecasting across the whole org. A five-person team pays $50/month for Fireflies versus five figures annually for Gong. Start with Fireflies; graduate to Gong when you have 20+ reps and a revenue leader asking for deal visibility.
